Mine was kinda weird and risky but very effective.
Equipped with damage mods, kin cats, armor plates, and reps, my typical encounter with an enemy would go as follows-
Spot enemy Run in funky zigzag/jumping to confuse enemy Get close enough to unleash high damage assault rifle and ion pistol. Kill +50
Did as so since like....1.8 when i established myself on the GALLENTE race, then maxed out GALLENTE stuff with that respec
Here's some vids I made long ago. Good times. (Please ignore music. I am not good at YT Math/music+vid, I only put music I like)
First vid- https://youtu.be/AgIxzFfw-MI (still had terrible input lag on smart tv)
https://youtu.be/plZUyNgK7FM (^darn input lag)
https://youtu.be/qXdIXabVTVA (New tv, no input lag, getting used to realtime aiming again, it was a life saver)
https://youtu.be/Skz_SSf1lyI (Me being a little p.ssy tanker and not wanting to lose isk/noob tanker) (did become a very good tanker near end of dust)
https://youtu.be/8b7a3BrJVvk (SPIDER MAN ZOMBIE)
Wished I had a cap card to put up better vids. But oh well, this will do by my part.
In all the vids above, I ran basic gear (as I was in my poor era, this was after I ran proto and officer nonstop and went broke, then got rich again and spammed proto)

Mine was low-risk, effective, and to me, fun. A lot of people might not have liked it though because it largely avoided combat.
Fitting was a minmatar scout with a mass driver, SMG, uplinks, cloak, triple myofibs, a codebreaker, profile damp, and whatever else I felt like throwing on.
For the most part, I would stick to the edges and low-traffic areas of the map, keeping track of where all the fighting was, and cloaking whenever I crossed wide open areas.
I would look for unguarded or lightly guarded objectives and CRUs, ninja my way over, then stealth hack them. If someone was in my way, I would use stealth, mobility, and a little bit of psychology to my advantage to get the element of surprise and either OHK them with melee while my cloak is up (triple myofib roids), or get a couple of direct hits in with my mass driver. Had to be careful because I had no eHP to play with.
While I moved between points, I would use my myofibs to get on odd ledges and platforms nobody could otherwise reach, and throw an uplink up. Though I usually prioritized uplink safety over being close to an important area.
I usually would end up with few kills, fewer deaths, but lots of WP.
What I meant by using psychology was kindof playing with people. Cloak up and wait where I knew they wouldn't look (on top of CRUs, for instance), or I would lead them in circles around something before changing direction on them. Of course, my passive scans helped me cheat a little there because I would know if they turned around as well.
Always loved scouts for **** like that: your lack of eHP leaves no margin for error, but if you know how to use them, you'll never get shot in the first place.

I was actually going to say something similar.
Commando with a Mass Driver and Combat Rifle typically... lots of damage with lots of regen.

Used to play carefully. Then started to play recklessly and very aggressively. Much more fun. Just jump into the action and follow the flow.

Mostly stuck to me Logibro. Repping any and all that would Le push the enemy.
My second go-to suit would be the Scout. Hacking anything and everything needed of me.
But when I would go into the front lines was to TROLL the **** out of anyone stupid enough to **** me off. Died a lot but the Hatemail was epic. Taking out Rats and Frames just to hear the screams.
But in the few times I ran nando or assault I tended to die a lot as it was not my specialty. I could not 1-1 without a commando or sentinel.

As RoadK!ll said I played everything as an Assault, at least for while; towards the end I stopped caring as much and played slightly more defensive because I was tired of wasting effort when at least half the time it was just 1 or 2 other people pushing with me and started doing things the easy way like almost everyone else and got rewarded better for it than actually trying.
It was both infuriating and fun while it lasted.

It was always my philosophy that the most effective way to fight was to tank HP, win 1 v 1 confrontations with your superior HP, then avoid combat for a little bit to regen, then repeat. That was why I usually preferred Shield Extenders over Rechargers/Energisers, and Plates over too many reps. I used to hardly ever run reps, instead preferring the mix the Reactive Plates gave you. It's also the reason why for a long time I ran a Minja that had just under 500 eHP. Say what you want about it, but it was effective.

I took the immortal merc thing seriously and basically went berserker sentinel for most of the game. When playing in pubs the only reason to bust out better than cheapass was for dealing with the occasional stomper or vehicle.
And never use anything but free fits when Romulus Hex is on the enemy team. Ever. I will one day figure out how to make a galpunch assault work like that.
My favorite suits were the calsent and minsent, and the galmando and ammando for commando suits. Sure, I died a lot.
I didn't play for kills or KDR. I played to win, whether that meant swapping suits and hacking, or bulldozing with an HMG or denying existence to tankers with a forge.
I was a generalist who could literally pull any suit I needed to do the job. Almost always ADV.
And then I would chase people, massacre the unprepared, bomb people with REs, kill snipers with my quafe sniper rifle, blow sh*t up with a mass driver and generally use every dirty trick I could to waste everybody else.
I have frequent flyer miles on shooting blues for the funzies, hunting scouts, and testing stupid fits on fatsuits.
I had fun, played to win, and didn't much care how much money I lost. I always made it back selling your districts to the unsuspecting.

You've not seen my death rate in proto sentinel suits.
After a point, lesser AV became more or less worthless. But I wasn't interested in protostomping the mixed bag of bads and newbies in pubs. Rolling my face across the keyboard and winning against a new player in a militia freefit in a Ck.0 had as much satisfaction factor as winning a basketball game against a three year old. I was less cheap in facwar and such.
As to "playing to win" and "shooting blues" some people are nickel-plated morons who really needed shot in the head with a bolt pistol. Repeatedly.
That or they're the twits who are cussing in your ear and vomiting racist slurs because no one is doing as they command.
Either way?
Public service.
Making whiny and/or racist twits ragequit is the very DEFINITION of "playing to win." Might cost you the match, but everyone else wins.
