I hope the main ideas of dust are kept in nova. I was having talking to my son who also played the game in regards as to why I liked Dust so much. It has to do with my play style. You see, my son is more of the call of duty fast twitch style of gamer where I am a support type of gamer. i do well in games that require a bit of strategy. You know, outflanking the enemy, controlling a point, healing and or resupplying a group. In other similiar games we have very different approach. He goes gun-ho right up to the enemy's face where as I like to hide behind cover taking pot shots. He is fast paced where I am methodical. He would confront the enemy head on where I would try to sneak in and disable a shield generator so other people can go in. He would rather run upto an enemy and get a knife kill even if he died where I prefer healing players with his play style so that they can keep sending lead down range.
The thing is that there are countless fps games that cater his play style but, very few that cater to mine. For example, we started playing planetside 2. This game is very similar to dust and it even has a scout that can cloak, a medic and the idea of capturing points. It, however have 2 drawbacks. #1 although you can level up your character it is only withing their role. For example, only the medic can revive and heal. This works for this game to some extend but it also limits the possibilities. once you level up a character then there isn't much else to do with it. You don't have the customization level that dust had. The other thing I didn't like is that there is no end to the battles. One day I spent over 3 hours trying to capture a point only to be taken back during a bathroom brake. Yes, you read it right 3 hours where no one could gain an inch of terrain. In a way that is cool but, it leaves you with a lack of sense of accomplishment. You don;t have that "we beat fatal absolution" feeling. You just kind of leave and that's it. Another point is that there is really no sense of lost. In Dust a battle could be costly thus it forces you to plan a little bit better. In all other games you can respawn as much as you want with no penalty.
We then tried destiny but, I am also seeing some problems. Although it does gives me the sense of accomplishment following and beating the story arc the player vs player is not for me. I found a gun that if you make a kill it will automatically refill your magazine. Since I only play the missions I pretty much found the last gun I will ever use right on the second week. There is no more reason for me to level up any hire or try to look for something better because beein able to shoot almost infinitely pretty much takes care of 90% of the situations in the game.
Any ways, to make the story short these are some of the things I think need to be in Nova.
1) High level of character customization. 2) Reward different play styles not just the fast twitch crowed. 3) You choices should matters. Whether there is an equipment cost or some other element like for example, limited number of bullets, limited resources or something should be part of the game. 4) Keep the chat system and squad finder. So far I haven't found another chat system that is as good as dust. planet side 2 has a horrible chat system and in destiny everybody has a close squad so I can never find anybody to play with. |
