Wondering whether your computer is gonna handle UE4?
Want something new, or for the elder players, something familiar?
Need to frag again?
Check it out:

I have been playing this off and on since it was released and have been playing several matches every day since I left Dust and just can not get enough.
For being an alpha the requirements are amazingly low which is likely a testament to UE4. On my crappy GTX 750 I am able to run 4k @ a perfect 29 For you guys that like doing level designs you can visit the forums on the Epic website and find out how to submit your own maps for everyone to enjoy.
**WARNING**
If you are on windows 10 and using RealTek HD Audio Drivers there is a known bug that causes the game to crash repeatedly and unpredictably. If you are one of the one unlucky enough to have this happening simply disable all audio devices by right clicking the speaker in the bottom right corner then selecting playback devices and then right clicking on each device and hitting disable.
The game will run very smooth after that.
Many are still experimenting with alternate fixes to this but nothing as of yet. Unfortunately they have a quite small team over there that is actually dedicated to this game and this bug only affects a limited number of people so it is probably going to stay like this for a little while longer.

Don't expect good performance with an Intel graphics chip I had to set everything to lowest, and between the Intel chip and crappy internet, I get a lot of choppy play and server issues.
I am tempted to get back into the map making. Made a lot of maps for DooM and UTGOTY.

If you are having trouble try disabling all sound devices. I have the same bug I mentioned above and started out with very choppy play and freezes like you mention which then escalated to total freezes so I believe you may be experiencing the same thing. I know this sucks having to play with no sound but for now it is all that works. I have had varying success with different sounds off and on as well as even trying to run the audio through VAC repeater but have not found a solution yet. This is the price you pay for pre-alpha but considering how well everything else generally runs it is still a pretty good game.
Also try creating a custom match on the nearest server to you and let a few people join as I find that pretty much solves most issues with connection.
What processor do you have? Have you checked how much CPU you are using during play?

I will run through those suggestions over next few days, thanks.

Update:
Laptop Intel Core i3-2350M Quad-Core CPU @2.23GHz Intel HD Graphics 3000 video chip Cirrus Logic CS4213 audio chip Realtek PCIe NIC
General settings: Resolution - 800x600 Graphics - all at low, AA=none Audio - Bot Speech=off
HUD settings: Notifications=all off During gameplay: CPU usage @ 40% avg. System Ram usage @ 1.6GB avg.
With sound enabled, game is playable, but drops a lot of frames (way too many to be an effective player). Sound disabled, only slightly better with the lag, but still a lot of frame drops.
Desktop Intel Core2 Quad-Core CPU @2.7GHz Nvidia GT240 PCIe graphics card, 1GB onboard ram Creative Audigy 2ZS audio card Nvidia NIC
General settings: Resolution - 1920x1080 Graphics - all at low, AA=none Audio - Bot Speech=off
HUD settings: Notifications=all off During gameplay: CPU usage @ 42% avg. System Ram usage @ 800MB avg. With sound enabled, game is playable, no noticable frame drops Bumping Graphics up = each notch higher introduces minor frame drops, increasingly.
