I think if you kill certain pirates (in my case gurastis) you can gain standing with the opposing faction to the point where they won't drop what they are doing to kill you if they think you're there

It's always a nice place to go back to when something like this happens. If CCP ever realised the benefit of doing so, it would also be a great jumping off place for their other games.

But for general help, joining a player corp is probably the best move.

You can do all those things in EvE, just you do it from inside a ship, with appropriate modules fitted. Everything in EvE is player driven. If something's repaired, a player does it. It's just a matter of how it's done.

We can also guide on how to make some cash in the early days. "NPSI" - is that a variation on "NBSI"? I've never heard of NPSI. I'm in Provi where we are "NRDS" (Not Red Don't Shoot). Sometimes it can be interesting with neuts that are aggressive, but otherwise, it's pretty nice down there.
