Yeah, like a few here I've been in New Eden for a while, actually since 2010. It's always a nice place to go back to when something like this happens. If CCP ever realised the benefit of doing so, it would also be a great jumping off place for their other games. |

I've never stopped being "active" there, and I even joined my EvE corp, Rogue Clones in Yulai Federation to continue the theme. I have very rarely undocked though, in quite a while. I will be remedying that. :) |

Could anyone point me out to some newbie friendly minmatar chats that would be cool. Short of joining FW, there's no real need for faction specific help chats. Agreed. FW is probably the only place that being one race or another matters that much. But for general help, joining a player corp is probably the best move. |

Could anyone point me out to some newbie friendly minmatar chats that would be cool. Join a player corp as soon as you find one that suits you. There is local chat that's a hell of a lot better than it is in Dust. Use that to find a player corp. There's also NPC corp chat as well.
Do the tutorial missions. That's probably the best way to learn the tactics of your race, in your case Minmatar. The tutorials are geared towards your race and chosen specialties. There is a lot more than just combat in EvE and if you choose mining, manufacturing, industry, etc, your tutorials will be for that sort of thing, which is not race specific.
If you want to specialise as Minmatar, you can join the Militia (or whatever they're called for Minmatar) and fight FW. Be very careful if you do that, though - you will find yourself targeted by the opposing faction and you won't be able to go into their space anymore. That can definitely be a bummer.
It can get almost that bad just by running missions. My EvE main, Nalianna, has very high standings with the Caldari Navy and is very negative with Gallente. Flying through Gallente space can be interesting.... :) |

Can you enter turret platforms to defend the ship you just stole? Can you jetpack outside your ship or other stolen ships and join others to repair combat damage ? All the things you just mentioned are part of what "Walking In Stations", which was going to be the link between EvE and Dust, was going to bring. All sorts of ideas of commerce, trading kiosks and the like were talked about, but never happened. It would be amazing if something like this eventually did come out of CCP's ventures, but sadly, I don't think that will happen anytime soon. The EvE player base wasn't interested enough (well some were, but not enough) and some were actually against it because to them it meant stealing developers from EvE to work on Walking In Stations.... Sound familiar?... ;)
For the moment, yes, you can defend your property or that which you've just acquired, and yes, you can repair your ship or others with appropriate modules, but no you can't do it in person, as such. All the things you talk about can be done, but only from inside a ship, as the pilot of that ship. |

You can do all those things in EvE, just you do it from inside a ship, with appropriate modules fitted. Everything in EvE is player driven. If something's repaired, a player does it. It's just a matter of how it's done. |

Lady MDK wrote:Golden Day wrote:GOLDEN/DOCTORDAY NEVER DIES!! Have been playing EVE for years, Just started a small corp for pewpew and stuff. If anyone is interested its called 'Silent but Violent' and we go on roams most evenings with an NPSI (Not Purple Shoot It) community (so they basically shoot anyone who isn't in the gang at that time) and also with a couple of members of the eve streaming community. Minimum requirements are very low - we will take new players and offer help if needed and I have no doubt new members would be welcome on streaming/other roams. We can also guide on how to make some cash in the early days. "NPSI" - is that a variation on "NBSI"? I've never heard of NPSI. I'm in Provi where we are "NRDS" (Not Red Don't Shoot). Sometimes it can be interesting with neuts that are aggressive, but otherwise, it's pretty nice down there. |

Alena could I join your Corp when I log in on Friday or Saturday I plan on skilling into minmatar logi ships Yes, of course. Just look up the corp Rogue Clones and apply to join. Mention in the application that you know Nalianna - the CEO of Rogue Clones is Deathwish Drang, a friend of mine. We're a great corp!
Be aware though, that when I said that Provi was exciting, I meant it - we're constantly being invaded by the neighbouring denizens and often have fleet ops to defend our territory. Yulai Federation is quite large and inhabits only part of Providence. All the Provi corps and alliances are NRDS (Not Red Don't Shoot) which can be interesting.
The significance of being a member of Rogue Clones is that for much of our time we can't stay in hisec because of constant wars. You start in hisec, with the tutorials. As soon as you're accepted into Rogue Clones you would need to hitail it to Providence for safety from wars. Even in "peacetime" we see reds everywhere in hisec. Unlike Dust you should NOT shoot them in hisec or Concord with take you out, unless they're a war target in which case they'll be flashy on the overview.
You'll learn all this probably fairly quickly. Get down to Providence as soon as you can after joining is the best strategy.... |

Basicly all the processing happens on the server. The PC is just for presentation. That said, you can dial it right down to get really smooth, instant response, but I run it on a HP ENVY laptop with an A10 processor and Radion graphics, on the highest settings and there's no lag at all.
I know for a fact though, that it will run on a much lower spec machine than that. It's all in the settings for the game. |

The architecture for Linux and Windows is supposed to be the same. Is there a problem with the BIOS? |

Golden Day wrote:Alright I'll see you on Friday or Tuesday
Well, I've seen both you and lolklz in EvE now! Lolklz even blew up my tackler ship. Ah well, they're not really meant to survive, anyway. In any case, I probably shouldn't have agreed to a friendly duel in a ship that didn't have any weapons...
Word to you Dusters reading this. Friendly duels in EvE are not meant to result in destruction of a ship or podding of the capsuleer. Duels are, of course, and the only way you can have one-on-one in hisec without Concord taking you out. But friendly duels are meant to be just that. Ships in EvE are not like suits - you don't have a relatively endless supply of them.
Anyway, I'll be much more careful agreeing to a friendly duel with Dusters in future! ;) |
