Strictly for FPS games
On consoles, most obviously use a controller. easy and simple, but lacks the precision of a mouse for aiming.
On PC, keyboard and mouse is the standard. lots of button for different needs.
I find that movement is better with a controller while aiming is better with a mouse. I'd like a hybrid peripheral. a nunchuck for the left hand to control movement, with extra buttons for various needs, while still able to use a mouse for aiming.
if you google such a device, youll find that this has been a radical idea for some years. only one such device exists and it was design for console use mainly.
https://world.splitfish.com/fragfx-game-controllers/fragfx-fragchuck-pc-mac.html
the problem is that this device is YEARS old, and im not even sure if the company is actively producing and supporting the device.
I'd like to know why no one else is using something like this for FPS games. I want one, it seems like the step up for me in terms of competitive play.
Does anyone have any thoughts on this? |

Agreed, but even if such a device were to exist the game itself would have to support it. I know some PC games that only work with either controller or mouse & keyboard, they won't let you use both. Would be nice though. Nudge the control stick slightly to pop out from a corner to aim at your foe, unlike with traditional WASD where you'd press a key and your character walks out of cover and gets shot. Hopefully that kind of setup is supported for Nova.
Also as far as those kind of devices goes, here's one that's mixed between a mini keyboard and a control stick: http://gaming.logitech.com/en-us/product/g13-advanced-gameboard

I use the FragFX Shark. It can be switched to be used on a console or in place of a keyboard on a PC. You program the buttons as you want. I believe it is game app independent. It is read like a keyboard.

Hmm.
I find dust unique in the way that you can actually have effective hipfire, making being a little less accurate good for strafing, cqc, hip fire, etc. with that in mind, it depends on the game. I agree that controller is better for movement. For me personally, I find controller being the master race.

Where did you get yours from? I've been thinking about ordering direct from the company.
I've been playing Oveewatch and noticed that you can use both keyboard, mouse, or controller at the same time. The game switches all tool tips from keyboard to controller depending on what you're using. |

Sounds like a good idea for a product. Create a device that works like a joystick but outputs wasd data like a keyboard. I don't think there would be any way to prevent it from being used.

Think of the dualshock 4 but with repositioned trackpad.

I thought I ordered direct. If not, then it would have been Amazon.

I wish they'd make a controller like the Steam Controller except with a trackball instead of a trackpad. I actually played shooters on PC for years with a trackball.

I'd like to see if I can get my controller working on Nova (or whatever it's eventually called) too. I firmly believe that the mouse is better for aiming, but for everything else, the controller is superior. |

Yeah I use controllers for any shooter even on pc, TF2 CSGO etc, I cant aint with the best of them but I make up for it with maneuverability.

I think the VR stuff will be great if it doesn't die an early death because of expense. Being able to think your way around the battlefield will be a definite plus also... |

Yeah I use controllers for any shooter even on pc, TF2 CSGO etc, I cant aint with the best of them but I make up for it with maneuverability. Manoeuvrability is definitely clunkier with KB/M. The high precision of the controller for that purpose makes it superior. The only issue I ever had with the controller in Dust was with aiming. I notice in most of the videos I've seen that people generally don't use the right stick - only use it jerkily for rapid changes of aim. I would always be using it which I think was a problem I would have fixed eventually if the game continued.
So when Nova comes to PC, I'm gonna continue to use my controller (a Logitech by the way) and see if I can't refine the aiming issue. |
