I think a lot of what fueled the competitive environment was clans/players coming from Mag, resistance, socom and etc bringing grudges with them. Four years into this game, all of those corps and relationships have been pretty altered from what they were.
What will the next game be like, considering? How will there be any competition, aggression and drama? All of that is what gave purpose and context to a game really lacking in any real incentive to play as much as we did. I feel like, in addition to skepticism, people will be bored with nova, legion or whatever cause it'll have the same rudderless but even worse without the corp drama

Most of the groups that first got into EVE: Online never knew each other before but they quickly developed rivalries that shaped the future of the game.
And important thing to note, though, is that even before they released Sovereignty in that game, you could still have one large group of people live in one area and attack anyone else who came in. One thing I do worry about for Nova is the confirmed lack of any territorial conquest either in space or on the ground until after the game launches.
I'm a little skeptical on how a 32 player lobby shooter only on indoor maps can bring people together into huge groups like EVE Online has and how the rush for Planetary Conquest did in Dust 514.

Well, if we fight to hijack strategic mothership in a middle of a war, that does bring some sense to the lobby shooter :)
Proud player of the most strategic and addictive massively-multiplayer FPS in the world.

Well, if we fight to hijack strategic mothership in a middle of a war, that does bring some sense to the lobby shooter :) There's no way they'll ever allow a shooter to have that kind of effect in EVE, PC or otherwise. Even putting aside the problem with trying to handle the server shenanigans to allow that, you really think EVE players would take the idea of their 80,000,000,000 ISK asset hanging on the fate of a match in a lobby shooter that they have no influence over?
(That price point is based on many people using Officer mods on Super-Carriers)

Gameplay wise I would hope and think that it will be just as competitive as our beloved dust I hope for better if anything.
I would also like to believe that if we are keeping the forums it looks promising that we will keep player ran corporations and chat channels (as it is this that drives competition and conflict).
I don't want to judge nor get my hopes up too early on this game. I want it to be a great game that expands into everything we wanted DUST to have. At the same time CCP are being very low key with everything I would assume until they get a green light so its hard to build optimism just yet.
This is the turning point, the rising of the tide.

They need to have the pedal to the metal. I cannot stand the idea of CCpp's glacial pace on development. After many iterations, and let's call it testing, blah, its going to be fkn years before we can hang out together to blast faces again. Cheers boys for your efforts to build up nova, but I jumped off this war barge long ago. Still floating around obviously...
First day open beta. I used to play for the points.
