Except for the lag and bugs, why did DUST fail so hard on the advertising scene ?
Because not everyone had 150+$ to buy a good capture card and the space to use it, set it up, which was the only way to get the game out there. However, NOVA will benefit from being on the PC because the software for Recording ( and even live streaming ! ) are pretty much all free and very accessible and easy to use, unlike console capture cards.
ANYONE who ever wished to put his matches on YT will be able to do so . We will be ALL able to do our advertisement part, which will be an undeniable help to CCP trying to get new players. That is why I believe we are going in the right direction after CCP decided to develop NOVA on PC.
Now I know we haven't played the game yet and only seen very few of it, so let's hope they get it in the right direction so that we have good reasons to eventually promote it !

I would have to go ahead and agree with you on the fact that the difficulty of streaming definitely hurt Dust specially since they tried to center their advertising around an invite system much like Eve is.
As for calling that an advantage to PC over PS4 you would be incorrect thanks to the fact that PS4 now includes the ability to stream for free.

As for calling that an advantage to PC over PS4 you would be incorrect thanks to the fact that PS4 now includes the ability to stream for free. Not to go off topic or anything, but the Eve Online invite system had far better incentives compared to the lackluster incentives that Dust 514 had. Much of the rewards that Dust offered for both recruiters and recruits are not as good as their in-game equivalents. The only exception was the BPO LAV which is very difficult to obtain and has become much more difficult now because of the looming shutdown for the game. Going back to streaming, recording, and editing, It's very interesting to see how far consoles have come along in that regard. Unfortunately what keeps holding them back is the dreaded console life cycle. The only way to break that cycle is if somehow consoles were to adopt the one advantage that the PC has over them. The ability to expand their current hardware and software while still allowing you to enjoy the same games you bought years ago. So far the Steam Machine appears to be the first step in all that but I'm not sure how that will turn out. If the consoles can get out of their life cycle of having to constantly be replaced in their entirety then that would be great. Even smartphones have seen their first attempt at this such as Project Ara by Google where a smartphone is given a modular design where you can pick which hardware to install or upgrade. It's still in its infancy, but if a smartphone is willing to go that far then I see no reason why a console shouldn't try the same thing. PS: I wouldn't be surprised if Nintendo became the first major console maker to attempt this. They are well known for expanding into various markets that are vastly different from what most console gamers have grown to know them for.
Totally agreed on the rewards but even if those were done better the game was not super "shareable" to make the invite system work. This is mainly because of the failure that was the NPE in Dust 514.
Everyone talks about the life cycle of consoles but I really do not see it. With consoles being a standardized platform across the board developers are able to optimize pretty well for it giving an overall output advantage versus PC which requires constantly attempting to optimize to the varying hardwares of the PC community.
The PS3 had a great run as for life cycle and you would have spent more than the price of a console on PC upgrades. Even just before the PS4 came out the PS3 was running some decent games pretty well along with the fact that a ton of games released on both the PS3 and PS4 and did not see any massive performance differences. Just because Dust ran like crap on the PS3 did not make the PS3 a piece of crap.
The issue of losing your games on upgrade is definitely an issue.
Modular type console design of any type just makes a PC which is also what the steam machines are. I do highly agree with you that they are likely to cause the traditional console to go out the window. I said well over a year ago that the traditional console model was about to die and now we have the top brass at EA saying there may not be a next generation of consoles along with microsoft obviously working to make it so that you can get the console feel on any PC you want.

Scaleable settings
Better hardware and therefor graphics and fps
Native K&M support instead of emulation while still having controller support
Future proof
Not estranging the eve fanbase
faster updates due to sony not having to check them
Streaming and uploading videos and screenshots is easier
Scaleable settings -> with console this is not a requirement due to uniform hardware.
Better hardware and therefor graphics and fps -> depends on what you feel like buying but absolutely correct
Native K&M support instead of emulation while still having controller support -> this is up to the developers. CCP did not do it because they needed a way to balance kb/m vs ds3
future proof -> not really all that true. I will just say that now that the playstation is on the x86 architecture going from one to the next is even more simple than keeping up with PCs which will likely end up with an entirely new OS to deal with even in the lifespan of the PS4
Not estranging the eve fanbase -> correct. instead CCP is now taking money out of their left pocket and putting it in their right pocket.
faster updates due to sony not having to check them -> again not true at all. Slower updates due to QA needing to be done across several operating systems and hardware configurations to ensure it is atleast going to work for most of the players. In comparison with PS4 you have ONE SYSTEM and ONE OS to test for followed by giving Sony time to do a check to make sure its not going to crash the whole system.
Streaming and uploading videos and screenshots is easier -> yet again incorrect. if you are on windows 10 they are basically equal thanks to the ps4 and windows 10 both having very easy built in streaming systems. However if you are not on windows 10 you are going to have to download some software and do quite a few settings to make sure the stream does not take up more of your internet than the game.
There is really not one valid point PRESENTLY as to why PC is better than console.
I am glad CCP made their choice so that at least they can start making a game. I game on both PC and PS4 so its all cake for me either way. I will say that I think console would have been the better move for CCP as its now an easier medium to work on and it would have given them the opportunity to expand their use of the Eve IP to more people.
Oh well dumb argument is dumb because CCP has chosen PC and I simply can not wait to see the new game.

Weirdly enough though, some games started to include it. Many people want to play with worse graphics, but higher fps, yet very very few games make that possible on consoles. Seriously... with modding coming to consoles and graphic settings making a push, it seems like consoles don't want where they want to go.
Even if they go to a new OS, you could just install that OS on your PC. And well... it worked well enough for Eve Online for the last 13 years... during that time 3 console generations were released.
I wonder why they manage monthly updates in Eve Online then, but in Dust it was one every 3 months. Even hotfixes needed to be checked by sony. Getting your patch approved by Sony takes a long time.
At least on PC I can record more than 30 seconds. Also Shadowplay works not only on Windows 10. And it's not that, magically, streaming takes less resources on consoles. Only difference is: When something doesn't work, you can try to make it work on PC.
LOL. At a minimum moving to a newer OS requires some tweaks to be able to properly use compatibility mode and at the most require major adjustments. Just look at how many programs today still have trouble going from windows 8 to windows 10 at around 2 years after the first beta of windows 10 was released. Developers are also forced to chase the most current versions of directx while trying to keep older versions working which is a bit of a crap shoot. For example right now the newer cards are all using dx12 but there are still millions of people that max out at dx11 thanks to older hardware.
Yea I wonder indeed why they manage monthly updates in Eve but not in Dust. Could it possibly have to do with an amazingly larger team? Maybe it has to do with the fact that Eve is a far more stable code base thanks to them having spent years and years cleaning up things. Hotfixes WERE NOT approved by Sony they were strictly server side updates. Oh and lets not forget that thanks to being stuck on Tranquility Dust could only have server work done in the 15 - 30 minute downtime they were given by the Eve guys, I can not possibly imagine why that would slow up things.
I have no idea what you are talking about with the 30 seconds thing. Go on twitch right now you will find thousands and thousands of people running streams using nothing but the PS4 system. I did not say it takes less resources on console only that console is able to use better tuned default settings and not require the user to tweak frame rates, bandwidth throttling, resolution settings, and lots of other fun settings.
CCPs only problem with Sony is that they take a cut of the money that is processed and they actually hold them to a customer care standard that is in favor of the customer not the company. FF14 showed them that with Sony in charge of the money their screw ups can cost real money.
