They create this magnificent shooter with so much variety, strategy, RPG elements...
But it's so heavily stagnated by corporate inexperience and neglect, unbalanced over/under powered battlefield roles...
It should be rock paper scissors. Lasers beat caldari, rails beat gallente, hybrids are the middle ground. There needs to be an opposite, a counter for everything.
A mass driver that shoots plasma. A heavy laser.
This game could just be SO much better if they put in the effort.
Whatever happened to DS the Drunk Heavy anyway?

I think its pretty insulting and going too far to say that they didn't try.
At the end of the day the devs down on the ground and likely doing their best to put out a solid product, even if the powers to be are being counterproductive to that end.

they do realise their potential, they just don't give a f**k about people, as is painfully clear by CCP's past, and how many twats does it take to make games anyway, CCP have far to many of these making plaster models of make believe s**t instead of debugging, also if they didn't use chinese slaves to program there would be less bugs, LOOK AT "NO MANS SKY", 11 people have made that, and how many are on ccp's payroll, good luck waiting for yet another title from ccp that will never appear, and even if it did, good luck on the pc market as it's oversaturated with GREAT GAMES, let alone crappy ones, L.O.L.

I have had it in the back of my mind that CCP should release the source code to the community so we can take over running the game and make it as we want. Won't have the EVE OB support but I imagine we could do a good job if even three percent of the community was willing to do coding, modeling, sound. But of course I doubt that will happen.
one thing that makes me sad about games like this, once they lose support they don't come back... Ever look at open source projects? They have long lives.
Another idea we as a community make better science fiction shooter because everyone cares about it. Make it an open source game too, so it would a longer life. I bet we would put effort in it. Anyone still lingering in the forums today wants dust 514 like game and I don't think CCP will deliver just based on how many times they posted something about project legion then nothing after.
They have shown project nova footage but so far it looks like their following the same path as project legion. There has been no posts about it sense that I can easily find to be credible. I feel betrayed by CCP they way CCP handled dust 514 and how there handling us by keeping us in the dark.
Just like the original post said, had they put effort from all branches of CCP we would of had one of the best dam science fiction shooters out there , and yet we now we have an empty feeling. No shooter out their matches what we had in dust 514.

i sometimes wonder how the game would have been if ccp had copied the core gameplay mechanics of the orginal too star wars battlefronts instead.
gameplay and vehicles balance wise.
great potential is always there..
it just has yet to be realized

Are you kidding me?
CCP did the impossible, we were playing a game on the ps3 you know that right?
ps3 is ancient and full of flaws.
CCP has the most skilled devs i have ever seen in any gaming company and it hurts me to hear what you said about them.
There actually was a counter for everything you probably did not have enough skill to use it.

But if half the issues are with the code... Why da **** you want the code?
Someone suggested making something similar with UE4 from scratch... I'd go with that... And clearly CCP also thinks that, hence Nova. |

I think CCP does realize the potential of the virtual world they've created and, more importantly, curated over the past 13+ years.
It's that 13+ years of single-shard curation that has provided CCP with a singularly unique asset in all of gaming: the New Eden universe. Other companies can build space sims, other companies can build scifi shooters, and some ambitious(or foolish) companies can even try to hook them together, but they will never have a living universe to embed those games in without putting in the hard time creating and curating - just like CCP had to do. How many man hours has CCP spent as a company curating a virtual universe? No doubt the answer is staggering.
Yes they failed miserably with the execution of Dust 514, but on the plus side they failed without messing up New Eden politics or economics, and they (hopefully) learned a lot.
Imo CCP is driven primarily by a vision, namely the creation of a virtual universe and ultimately a VR-based experience of that universe. All this within the constraints of running a viable business, of course. CCP's vision is a hard sell to investors, to press, even to players because few people really get it, or if they do get it they don't see the value in it.
Dust 514 was conceptually simple, trivial even, yet how many gaming journalists missed the point completely when reviewing DUST? Easily the majority. Not 20% of mainstream reviewers understood the autonomy and freedom that Dust's many interlocking systems offered players.
In short, CCP does realize the potential of the shooter set in New Eden, where players have some of the agency and freedom enjoyed by Eve players, and also realize the considerable potential of putting it all together into a greater whole. With something as hella complicated as a living virtual universe which cannot be rolled back, they're forced to err on the side of caution.
It's going to be small steps and iterations all the way with Nova, not because the devteam lacks ambition, but because it's uncharted and complex territory. Building solid foundations is everything right now.
Spending merc fortune like water keeping these clone tumors under control....
