Just to get this out of the way. I've never seen so many bugs happen at the same time as I have in the last few weeks. The game isn't over yet, how about a little respect for the players who supported this game since the beginning and keep it running smoothly until the end. The last impression of CCP and dust is going to be "why would I play another game made by these guys with all the bugs"
The big question is, after building a huge following of console players how is it smart to release the next game on PC. the ps4 4k could handle the next game easily.

They're better at working on PC games and don't have to deal with Sony, why would we upgrade to a ps4 neo when we already have a ps4 and in my case a 980ti? I wouldn't mind it being on ps4 but not if I had to buy sony's new gimmick just to play 1 game |

First of all they are busy working on the new game trying to get us a new game as fast as possible. The fact that Dust is following apart without full time supervision just shows more why it was time for it to go.
It is smarter to release on PC because consoles are dying fast. The player base is not what it use to be, spending is not what it use to be, and overall use is not what it use to be. This is exactly why Sony suddenly scrambled to release an updated console in an attempt to get sales numbers up.
Mobile gaming is tearing away at console players because console players are the most casual gamers who already have smart phones.
PC players have remained consolidated thanks to the fact that they represent the people that want to maintain a more "hard core" experience as oppose to cheap and easy to log in and out of.
The desire to focus on core mechanics from the start is just so we don't all say oh yet another game full of bugs and BS.
Side note: Sony is not allowing developers to create games exclusively for the PS4K. They have already said that all new games must work on the standard PS4 and can essentially only have upgraded settings for the PS4K version.

Not much of a "huge following" to be honest with you.
Don't believe me? Here are some extremely hard numbers. Good luck trying to give a rebuttal against it.

The all-time chart dates back to May of 2013 just 11 days before official release of Dust.
PS: I don't care about the bugs in Dust anymore.

Which also kind of pokes a hole into the OP's notion that the PS4 Neo is the necessary benchmark for a port to consoles. The reality is that if it can't work on the vanilla PS4, then it can't work on a Sony console (not this gen anyways).

Yeah, "huge following" is a misnomer.
Most people who played this game were already familiar with EVE. Nova/Not-Legion will have far more people playing it because CCP already have a fanbase on one specific system. If they can integrate even the chat into the game early ala Battle.net, playing Nova/Not-Legion while waiting for your corporation to start a roam can make sense. Maybe you are mining; having EVE open on one screen while playing Nova on the other gives you something else to do as you mine away.
Basically, we can assume that most EVE players are at least going to *try* Nova.
As for having the game on PS4: yeah, sure. If CCP can get the game to work in such a way that it allows you to use the same character and have cross-play, that should absolutely be something they should work for. But the notion that people that played on the PS3 would all be waiting over on the PS4 or that going on the PS4 would have a larger playerbase than PC is an argument that is actively ignoring the number of EVE players.

First point - Sure I get that, a lot of people I know including myself feel that CCP has made them 'CCP abrasive'. But I feel they can do a good job when they allocate time and feedback to it.
Second point - We never had a big following, it just felt big because of the community aspect of meeting new people. We never cracking 10k players on a daily basis even at launch.
This game should not, and will not be on the ps4. The ps4 is in the middle of it's current cycle, we will end up with the same issues as dust514 on the ps3, where the game is being held back by the hardware constraints.
At least with the PC there is a benchmark, but the technology available to improve your PC is easy to attain, and we don't have to wait for (insert console release here) to come out to improve the game.

That way the console version would have been a sort of scaled down promo to get people interested in the full version and by extention, EVE.

What?!!! CCP has tens of thousands of "followers", if not hundreds of thousands! Yes, there's 2000 that play Dust everyday, but Dust is not the be all and end all of gaming. EvE is CCP's flagship, and there is a huge international community that virtually LIVES in New Eden. I really think the statement that there are less than 2000 who "follow" CCP is just completely wrong. |

Yep, I was there. The minute I found out it was going to console I, like many, wrote it off completely. I only bought a PS3 when I wanted to get my kids Skylanders. I then checked out DUST and this was a month before it (supposedly) came out of beta and people began to feel something was not headed in the right direction.
I got addicted enough to keep up support so they did something right, just not on the right platform.

I understand your point. In my opinion, those statistics have smal drawback, for example at the bottom of page there is:
"Player statistics: Current record:9,255 (2013-05-19 20:31:00)"
,but on "All time (weekly average)" during that week there is 5,600-5,700 players. Beside that we do not know if statistics count characters, accounts(PSN), or IP so actual player count may differ from the one that system show to us. "Past 24 hours" chart show us player count 'jumps' from 50 to 100 or even more - what if some group of players constantly get dc, or someone log on just for 5 min or one match - I do not know how to sum up numbers from "Past 24 hours" and there is not much information on this, am I right?

Especially when you have to account for Eve characters that join Dust corps and need to count them as well. Although in Alena's defense, CCP should have shown two separate stats on the login screen. How many Eve players online and how many Dust players online.

exactly.
When NEW Dust was released, the fanbase had a bit of a conniption-fit returning unused cans and bottles while vandalizing vending machines across the country. Once corporate learned the error of their ways, they release Dust Classic. Which really, when you think about it, is the same great tasting formula as Dust just with a new market spin.
Dust NEW Dust Dust Classic
I think Coke actually made a come-back in the cola wars after that brief diversion. Perhaps CCP's FPS dream will too.
... Full disclosure: my post may or may not be simply a string of freely associated thoughts and references triggered by one more words or comments read along the entirety of this thread that may or may not have bearing on the topic.
Really though, I kinda just wanted to quote Pokey. So that I could wrap it all up by typing the word Pokey.
