Take this into consideration and buy a PC.
Sorry, had to do it.
On a more serious note, I would say that most Dust players would be willing to argue that there is no really good FPS anywhere. That most likely comes from the fact that we all look for some depth to a game that really does not exist in the FPS world. Even tho up to now I would consider it a failure I still applaud CCP for breaking that FPS mold. |

That's the only point i bring, i have no intention to start another useless war pc vs console.

This exactly. In fact many of the FPS games on console are the same ones that are "big" on PC.
The whole gaming industry is just in a ridiculous state of flux thanks to the arguments over microtransactions and what not.
I would argue that they hype machine and pre-ordering has completely crapped on games over the last couple of years. When a company spends millions hyping up a game and in turn collects millions from pre-orders on day 1 the goal becomes not to deliver a good game that gets good reviews but to hit the deadline so they do not lose orders. This leads to buggy products and generally less emphasis on actual quality. When the game gets bagged on for being substandard they just convince you to buy the game all over again in the form of a DLC saying this will make it good now.
In the past when a game was about to be released it was about getting out copies to high level reviewers that people trusted in an attempt to drive sales through quality. In today's market all that matters is name recognition and marketing budgets.
Mobile gaming has evolved into a different form factor that sets it apart. Mobile gaming is driven by either in game ads or microtransactions and sometimes even a combination of the two. This means that the developers need to produce a game that you will stick with because you want to instead of making you stick around and spend more just out of buyer's remorse. |

Me too, but Overwatch is deep as a puddle. Fun to play with friends, but it gets boring fast.

COD and BF are always the two big ones, available on everything, but as you said, they are always the same soup. Fortunately on PC one can choose something else with decent playerbase. I don't want to argue about Nova not being played on PC, but a console port would be a win-win situation for CCP, i know a good number of players in the italian community and we really don't know what to play toghether. It will never have cod or bf playerbase, but if Dust was profitable on a almost dead console, i'm sure that Nova could be on a mid-life console.

At the height of Dust the PS3 still had easily 30+ million players worldwide with a thinning game selection. This situation made it a very prime market for a free to play game like Dust.
I agree that PS4 would have some significant upsides for CCP specifically in the form of not dividing their current Eve spending to some extent and opening up the Eve IP to more people. There are tons of pros and cons to the debate which could go on forever but all in all I think that going with PC and Unreal 4 is probably the best option in my mind. The console market is proving to be pretty unstable right now thanks to mobile and VR making pretty good strides.

I feel like there is no good FPS around, either on PC or console. Today's FPS are way too focused on the main thing you do in FPS, which of course is moving/shooting. The rest of the gameplay is flat and meaningless, and at times you even wonder why are you playing that particular game when there are tons of other copy/paste games.
Look at the two best-selling FPS games Call of Duty and Battlefield: the first, as much as I don't lile it personally, offer an exceptional "feeling" of shooting, something I honestly never managed to find on other games, the latter offer large scale battles, with a good "feeling" and the chance to be part of a much larger "battlefield". This is clearly something that yes, would make you spend hours on that particular game, but when the "magic" ends there's really nothing the game gave you.
Masterpieces like Final Fantasy X, VII, VIII, Metal Gear Solid, Silent Hill, some of the Resident Evil games, the Dark Souls series and many other, all of them give you "something" even after you played that game, even when you haven't played for years. FFX for example plays with your feelings all the time, throught a wonderful mix of storytelling and gameplay. And oddly enough, any game I mentioned plays with you somehow (in Soviet Russia...sorry, couldn't resist).
It's not about breaking the fourth wall anymore, it's more like there is a fence between you and the game, that distand "world", that can only be broken not by you, but by the game itself.

This is exactly why making DUST into a more generic shooter is probably not the best idea, but I guess if they keep it free and appeal to casuals they will rake in plenty of money regardless.
