1 Million ISK in the new game says Alpha is announced and signup opened at fanfest essentially giving Eve players first priority.

I mean I'm always pissed so it doesn't count but that would be some grade A bullshit. EVE has been one of the most vocal communities against this game over the years (considering no one else on the planet knows about us), to give them preferential treatment over us would just be another dip in the repeated Tbagging that is DUST CCP.
Why give priority to dead forums that most people have left instead of to an event that is streamed world wide and after replays seen by 10s if not 100s of thousands of people?
I know the PR team over there has made some bad calls but wow that would be the bad call of bad calls. So what if I get in a few weeks late atleast there will be plenty of people on there and real progress can be taking place.

So what if I get in a few weeks late atleast there will be plenty of people on there and real progress can be taking place. You're assuming that sign ups at FanFest would be the only way in. Recall that there was a tester population in the original Uprising version of Dust before Replication dropped and EVE players were brought in. If they announce signups at FanFest, I'm confident it'll be after they've already pulled an initial testing pool from here in order to make sure their product is as polished as possible gameplay-wise before they let the EVE community in.
No no that was why I referenced getting in a few weeks late. Because the people at Fanfest will get first in line and I highly doubt that they will just instantly flood the alpha with thousands of people meaning later online signups are opened in stages to add more people.
I disagree with your confidence of pulling in people directly from here. If anything I would guess they will send out batches of emails to past Dust players instead. Lets be honest we can only hang around here so long before the place turns into a ghost town and announcing it here on the forums first would likely recruit about 20 people.

Mobius Wyvern wrote: Oh, I didn't realize you were talking about notification method. I agree completely that the notification method would likely be via emails to the addresses we used to sign up for the game (one used for PSN).
As far as EVE players being given first dibs just because, that's what I think unlikely. More likely they'll set up a site for the game to announce the initial invites same as they did with having a Valkyrie site with basic info long before the game came out.
Again, considering that FanFest is a major event attended by the entire CCP fanbase AND representatives of the Press, bringing Dust 514 players in first under NDA makes the most sense. If they want this new project to do well, they need to make sure the experience for every FanFest attendee is overwhelmingly positive such that they can begin to get word-of-mouth going. As you probably remember, personal accounts of gameplay were a huge element in building hype for EVE: Valkyrie.
The thing there is most indications are that it will be on steam unless I am remembering incorrectly that it was using a steam server during fanfest. If I am remembering wrong then disregard the rest of this post.
With it being on steam access will be granted via early access codes as oppose to a sign up and download sort of situation. This is more similar to how Dust was launched than how Valkyrie was launched thanks to the third party regulation. With Dust cards were first given to fanfest attendees that they could redeem for a PSN code and I feel like this same flow will happen here followed by emails being sent out allowing Dust players to request an early access code for them self.
The reason I lean this way is because Fanfest gives an avenue for recruiting a small number of players for server testing before they open up to a much larger group. From a development stand point this just makes more sense.
Sending out small batches of emails to Dust players in an attempt to build a test base would be wildly unpredictable as there is no way of knowing how many people will see them and signup. At the same time they can not just send out a mass of invites and say, "oh you were too late we will send you a code in a couple of weeks".
If it is not on steam exclusively then I 100% agree with you. They will pop up a website and tell people to sign up and then let people trickle in.

Mobius Wyvern wrote: It will be available on Steam but there's no way it will be Steam exclusive. After all, not all PC gamers use Steam, and the fact that they'd be forced to do so would drive away potential customers.
The better idea is to make it Steam compatible and sell content packages on Steam, but also to use their own launcher like they do with all their other games.
Am I remembering correctly that the battle servers were running on a steam server in Germany or something like that?
If that is true then steam exclusive sounds like it is already set. I somewhat agree with you on it not being great to have it exclusive on steam but the pros outweigh the cons IMO. Just imagine distributed battle servers that you can actually play with people close to you this also takes a lot of stress off of CCP in terms of managing those servers directly and distributing updates to them. That also relieves some pressure on building the launcher to distribute client updates and adds some security benefits.
I have only really hung out with a couple hundred PC players mostly on Eve, Planetside 2, and Blacklight Retribution. I have never seen one that said they would not play a game just because they had to log in to Steam to do it.

Just because it was on Steam DOES NOT guarantee that it will be a Steam exclusive. Eve Online is one prime example. It can be accessed via Steam but you don't need a Steam account to get it. You can download straight from CCP via a separate launcher that operates on its own. So CCP does have the power and the experience to develop a new IP for PC with and without Steam if they choose to. That is far more likely to happen than just a Steam Exclusive. And there is absolutely no evidence so far that shows CCP is making Nova into a Steam Exclusive. The Steam client wasn't even brought up by CCP. It was brought up by Kevall Longstride who is the current member of the CPM and is a regular attendee of Fanfest who also tried out Project Nova. For all we know CCP could just be testing out how Nova can function under Steam and so far it seems pretty stable given the gameplay videos we have seen from the players who tried the game out. PS: There are not that many servers being managed by CCP. The vast majority of the servers are just Test servers (Singularity, Duality, etc.) and just a single live server for everyone to play sandbox with. Not that hard to distribute updates.
Eve is not on steam servers it is on TQ steam only distributes the client and makes sales.
Steam servers do not have their own validation mechanisms for clients to connect as that would be an incredible security flaw. That is how they keep things secure while allowing anyone to toss up a game server. Players being able to setup their own game servers thanks to this is an absolutely amazing prospect for Nova but with CCP servers I would call that prospect highly unlikely.
Kevall Longstride wrote:Veteran recognition is something that we've been discussing over Fanfest with CCP and those players that made it over there, which was quite a few as it happens.
There are obviously some technical hurdles that need overcoming. Nova is more than likely going to be on Steam as its distribution method. In fact the demo running at FF was on a Steam client with the server in Frankfurt, not a LAN. So they'll be likely some sign up mechanism from Sony and being able to link it to steam account.
But this is all very early thinking and of course, dependant on Project Nova getting green lit.
The fact that they had to have the steam client there even for the demo all but confirms that they are using steam based battle servers which makes the game require Steam to operate.
Sure I am connecting the dots here but there is no other reason that they would have the steam client up for a demo on their own computers.

Supposedly the only person to reach level 15 (Supreme Commander) only spent like $15,000. Scrub captain is probably quite fitting a title as well but hey to each their own as long as the cash grabs go on.
Who ever that person was should be getting invited to the office in Shanghai to take part in all current Nova activities.
