Everyone crying about losing MMO elements. What MMO elements did we actually have in DUST? Even PC was just another lobby match with different rewards depending on who won the last few battles on that map. Hell it wasn't even a real attack and defense game mode.
You could literally port Dust exactly as it is now to unreal 4 and on PC......and you would have a lobby shooter.

And you would have a better demo. Tech Demo is not a representation of a game.

Wanting to dial back expectations after what was promised with Dust is fair enough, but they've gone too far and they risk creating no excitement about the product outside of existing players
Basically I want all the features of EVE except my fighting is done with a laser rifle.
I think what Rattati is trying to emphasize is that right now they're focusing on the core engine of the game so that regardless of what New Eden features are put on, the game will still be a really enjoyable shooter.
That being said, there is plenty of room for growth off of a solid platform and I don't beleive that Rattati is looking to abandon the roots that Dust came from, which is New Eden. That being said he's also not afraid to shy away from features that may have been very New Eden but may not have made a lot of sense for the scope of the game.
Right now we really only know that there are some features that he wants to do away with, but not specifically which ones...and honestly I completely agree that some core elements of DUST did more harm that good.
Additionally very little has been said about what degree of New Eden he wants to inject into the game, so it may be very little or it may be a lot...no one knows for sure right now.
My guess is that they'll wait for the initial screaming to die down a bit, collect their thoughts from Fanfest and the feedback from the tech demo, and come back in a short while to elaborate more on what the plan is.
All in all we should just take a deep breath, give it a little time, and see what happens. Me and the rest of the Biomassed podcast crew are already working on pulling some devs in for an interview so we will hopefully see some of that in the near future as well.

At least now CCP is honest that they are currently just developing a lobby shooter and want to add more stuff later. Actually it really isn't a lobby shooter. I mean there isn't any lobbies in Dust; lobby shooters slap you all in the same "lobby" after each match so you end up playing the same people be they on your team or the other, unless they decide to drop out. That is what a lobby shooter is...... last time i checked there is none of that in Dust and rather you end up spending 20 mins for that one guy to restock his suits individually.
Lobby Shooter is just a generic term for a shooter where the game consists of instanced matches that have little to no affect on the games that follow or lacks an ongoing battle with no define start or end (planetside 2 for example). Don't get me wrong, Dust is obviously not 100% a lobby shooter but it's fairly close given the only gameplay persistance is Facwar and PC, and I would certainly like to see stuff along those lines in Nova.
