I am disappoint. Everything I loved about Dust514 is now gone, but at least the game play is smooth.. amiright?
Hate to be another naysayer Project Nova/Dust 2.0 is not what many of us were hoping for. The game went from original work with customization to a run of the mil lobby shooter.
Over all the edge it had to pull in customers for something different from Halo, COD, Battlefield, was just completely lost. |

The demo we see being played at fanfest is not even alpha. It's pre-alpha. And it's heavily streamlined to it's core features with little customization so players can drop in, drop out during the convention without having some dickcheese spend 20 minutes fiddling with his PG/CPU optimization.

you're looking at a simplified "cycle as many people through this quickly as we can" tech demo set up for a gaming convention with limited space.
Because of that, it is focused on "introduce players to gameplay, shoot mans, end match, send player off, bring in next player."
You don't need a fitting screen to introduce people to "fun time blowing **** up with an actual decent framerate count."
It's a demonstration model, not the full game.
Yes, I am a Goon. No, I don't care about your spacepolitik.

Exactly!! I dont know why people cant grasp this.
They even lowered the count to 6V6 and ran aquisition just to keep the action going. Just so people can cop a feel without it being too crazy.

Yea... they even said they plan to do 16 v 16 so ideally it will be a open world game with tanks, jets and ...drones floating around only more streamlined and less pointless open space that Dust was....Ironically it was where my heart dropped, BF4 has like 30 v 30 on consoles and can do alot to feel like a war. I sincerely hope they do not lower the bar.

This was a chance for people to see what a New Eden FPS built in UE4, minus the bad legacy code, can do.
This was not a final draft, fully featured game.
TL;DR - pull your head out of your butt.
And just an aside: for a pre-alpha game it actually looked pretty damn good, imo. Frame rate was stable and animations were fluid. If this is any indication of the quality "core shooter mechanics" CCP Rattati wants to build off of then I'm on board.
This is like the sixth or seventh attempt to make this game using the exact same assets.
Can we please stop calling it alpha and just refer it to as "shiny train wreck"?
This is a positive and endearing message brought to you by Himi.

I was against it at first too, but CCP said they want to add market stuff and Planetary Conquest later on. So I am a bit more optimistic now, that it's on PC and the gunplay seems to work fine.
I am not a big fan of the new loadout system, judged by what we saw until now and what they said it will become. I thought Dusts Loadout was perfectly fine and basically the best part of the game.

Now that I have read further over this Fanfest release of information, I would not say I'm optimistic per say. But I am at least intrigued by what they have said now that clearer detail concerning the actual game play of 16v16 and adding in the expansion of game play beyond just lobby shooting.
So. CCP. Make it so we DUST players can be happy with this next release. |

You mean what "some" of us were hoping for. So far, I'm still seeing a lot of people here supporting Project Nova despite how limited it looks mainly because we understand it to be just a pre-alpha that is completely rebuilt from the ground up. This time only without the past mistakes that made Dust 514 fail.
As for your "naysaying" I can see how that attitude reminds me of this quote recently from Rattati.
Quote:
MASSIVELYOP: "And then maybe when itGÇÖs viable, then talk about connecting it to EVE in a way that is mutually beneficial to both games?"
CCP RATTATI: "Yes, exactly. The thing is that now that people have seen Nova, they are saying, GÇ£Well thatGÇÖs nothing unique; why are you showing this to us because thereGÇÖs no EVE connection!GÇ¥ But the exact opposite is what they said in the last six months. They said, GÇ£Why would I even want to play connected to EVE when I can barely get 20 frames per second and IGÇÖm lagging and the shooter gameplay isnGÇÖt great?GÇ¥"

These assets weren't the train wreck. The legacy code is the train wreck.

I'm going to be honest with you about that. The loadout system in Dust needed more work. It wasn't exactly fine. The UI may have the look of Eve Online's fitting UI, but the UI in Dust was bugged with incorrect stats in some places, missing information that could have helped the player with understanding their fitting (stacking penalties, resistance values, etc.), we were limited to just 30 saved fittings.

The fitting system in Dust is leagues beyond Eve just for the fact we can buy X number of fittings.

Dear f@cking beesus do some damn research. Did you not read any of the threads all about nova? You saw a DEMO NOT FULL FOOTAGE. I swear its like spending a few minutes to read about the states of things. Did you not notice the threads with fresh new tags? Did you not pay attention to anything our cpm said? DO YOU LACK THE SIMPLE ABILITY TO OPEN A FEW THREADS RELATED TO NOVA INSTEAD OF JUMPING TO CONCLUSIONS LIKE IVE WARNED SO MAMY OF YOU ABOUT?!?!?

Not anymore.
Not too long ago Eve Online just received a feature where you can go to your fittings folder and select the option to buy "X number" of that fitting.
In fact, unlike Dust, Eve Online doesn't limit how many times we can buy stuff from the market.

It will be fine as long as they have mmo depth like eve has.
I want armor and shield resistances, a suit cap, different ammo types and proper racial bonuses for suits for using correct weapons and I want full slot layouts.
5 slots isn't enough. We should have a max of 8 depending on suit.

Actually it's less the footage that everyone knows is a DEMO and more the information, or really, the continued lack of information.
I mean for fucks sake they're even STILL acting like it's not totally greenlit, that they could shut it down at any moment. Look I've already embarassed myself enough on this issue, so all I'm going to say is that I for one was looking for more of a commitment from CCP. More staff, more funds, more focus on making this EVE / DUST connection. I've put up with 4 years of "it will get better soon"
Maybe it will. I'm attempting to wait till the beta is on my PC to pass further judgement on hypotheticals.

I appreciate the responses, my little bit of salt has manged to multiply into a salt flat with the feedback I've seen.
Overall still not on board like I have been with Dust for the past 4 years. No I was never a big name never wanted to be I just liked shooting people in the world that was supposed to be much grander than it actually became.
Will I still play this Most likely the answer is yes, I've already dumped 4 years into it, I'm back in EVE again and I most likely will be one of the first people on when I get a key that lets me.
But I overall am still very hesitant since I last posted this I have indeed read much more.
The fact they clarified it isn't going to be some Halo/ Gears knock off of small squad combat makes me much more open to it. and that they plan to expand once they have the core stable.
The fact remains my first impression of a small squad shooter, with practically no info other than we will have classes, makes it a "Bad" first impression. |
