First off, I want to say that I'm excited for the game. The reason I'm excited for the game is because of this article I found through the forums: http://www.destructoid.com/ccp-s-new-first-person-shooter-on-pc-aims-to-get-right-what-dust-514-didn-t-356861.phtml?utm_source=dlvr.it&utm_medium=twitter
Its an interview of the executive producer and it basically says exactly what the more reasonable people on the forums have been saying in response to all the childish backlash we were getting. The backlash comes mostly from the "dumming down of the mmo aspects"
Well the executive producer says there is going to be 32 different specializations/roles with loadouts able to mix and match weapons freely. I wont go into the fine details in this article, I recommend just to read it yourself, but I will say that this interview helped put my mind at ease a lot.
SO. What we as a community need to do now is push for this game to be developed. I encourage all of you to keep pushing to maintain the MMO aspects. But do so in a less crybaby way and more of a critical/constructive way. Understand that what we were looking at was a "Tech demo". Those are demos designed to show us how the game can play and operate. It showed very little in regards to the MMO aspect just because that wasn't the focus of that video. The article above states that their team pushed hard to get a demo out by fanfest just so people could get a feel for the game.
Basically, I dont want this game to get canned because CCP becomes too afraid of all the unwarranted backlash a lot of these forum warriors are giving. All of us want another game. I've been waiting/wanting one for a couple years now. I really believe CCP can deliver, we just need to make sure we dont scare them away from it while also making sure they dont veer off the right path accidentally.
My only criticisms of the above mentioned article is as follows:
1.) I feel really iffy about having to "play the role in order to skill into it". Skyrim had that type of system. And I hated it because of how stupid the grind got towards the end. Dont get me wrong, I like the idea. But execution is everything here. If Im stuck playing an advanced logi for two months because of how grindy it is to get into a proto version, then you might as well have kept passive SP because thats how long it would have taken anyway.
2.) This is the big one....... He only mentioned interchangeable weapons between loadouts. CCP, I highly recommend you maintain the fitting system from dust in project NOVA. DO NOT, dumb it down to only being able to change weapons between different classes. The deepness of Dust's specialization/customization is exactly what made it so appealing compared to other generic shooters. I dont want a cod "pick 10" system peace of crap. I want EVE. I understand that Dust had something of a learning curve. Rather then treating the costumers like they're stupid, I'd recommend creating a better more in depth tutorial.
CCP.... I really hope it isn't the case that you got rid of SP and skill paths entirely in favor of having "32 different roles". It would be a major disappointment if you removed modules/fittings from this new game. Truly. I dont want to have to spend two months playing assaults to then have a desperate need to hack and not be able to because I dont have the hacker class..... Ideally, I'd like to have the ability to fit a ton of hacking modules onto one suit fitting, and be able to have an "okay" hacker class. Kind of like what you could do in Dust. The merit of Dust was that you could have the super specialized character, or you could also have some wacky jack of all trades fit. So please, if your getting rid of modules and in depth fitting customization in favor of having "32 different roles" I really do recommend you stop and think about that for a minute. Its one thing to focus on core gameplay and shooter mechanics first. But remember your roots and what makes this game special compared to others.
3.) The executive producer mentions planets in dust being kind of bland and generic because it didn't always remind the players of the bigger picture they were a part of. This statement can be taken a couple different ways. I just want to say that it would be ill-advised if CCP got rid of planetary conquest in favor of instanced "lobby" shooter maps. Playing in a map thats titled "chimera hanger" is not better then playing on any random planet in dust. So rather then changing the settings of these conflicts, just put more emphasis on the link from Project Nova to EVE. UNLESS, you are still planning having PC but in addition to Carrier mode sieges and other cool concepts like that. In which case im totally on board with that because its sounds really cool.
Thats it! I mostly feel good about this game, but there are some big things im concerned about that could potentially break it for me depending on the development path CCP takes over the next couple years. Beyond that, SIGN ME UP FOR THE ALPHA PLEASEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE.

Takahiro Kashuken wrote:32 roles is weak, i had more than 32 roles for my tanks alone when they were worth using, that means they have dumbed the game down alot considering i could make alot of different fits.
Interchangeable weapons? is that it? another step back and dumbing down of the game.
Lack of SP or even skill tree mentioning means more dumbing down of the game if you can only get better by playing a role in which you cannot fit to your style.
No sign of vehicles or even larger maps so i will assume that they have been axed in favour of the arena.
The tech demo showed very little if anything new, a powerpoint would have been better.
The game will get made anyways since the PC market is larger and more active plus EVE players will hold it up most likely.
You had like 6 different tanks with multiple fittings. Not 32 or whatever. The article I believe is implying that there will be 32 different "types" of dropsuits. So like, light, medium, heavy, sentinal, logi, ect ect. I'm also reading other articles with interviews from ratatti that suggest that modules and class fittings aren't going anywhere. the more reading I'm doing on this the more encouraged I'm becoming. If there's 36 "roles" in the sense that I'm implying, then we could potentially have five racial variants for each role, and have four "quality" (mil,std,adv....) variants on top of that. So we could be potentially talking about well over 600 different types of dropsuits here. That sounds a lot more like ccp to me. And it just might be possible with UE4 and being PC based.
Regardless I think we can all agree that ccp really bungled this announcement and didn't give us very consistent information. But this is pre-alpha! You make good points! Don't stop telling ccp that and I'm sure they'll hear us. They might have been slow at developing, but ccp, compared to other companies, do a fairly good job at listening and responding to customer feedback. So don't give up! Keep giving your opinion clear and concisely!

I think this article more or less proves that they know what they have to do to make this game great. we just need to push them to greenlight it now! Use your twitter skills! Make hillmar understand!

Exactly. I'm all for constructive criticism even in its negative form, but that is vastly different from just being a naysayer. By the way... https://twitter.com/HilmarVeigarThat's the CEO of CCP Games and the guy who gives the final word on whether or not to green light Project Nova. I want to see development for Nova go full steam ahead.
I just tweeted him on my first ever twitter account. He will hear my words. He will let this game fly!

He he I feel much the same way. A lot of us have been lurking im sure. Like rattatis post today. It got 1500 views in one day. But only like 20 different people actually responded to it. There are a lot of silent watchers lurking in these lobbies. I was one of them until recently. Ever since they announced dust servers going down in preperation for a new game, ive been a bit more active.
