I was upset, angry, bitter, cranky, annoyed, over Rouge Wedding as it happened. Bought a 20 dollar HD stream just for it. I still hold a bit of a grudge against a certain Frenchman and given the opportunity I would likely fart in his general direction. Nova doesn't have me so angry. I don't think it is really worth noting at this point anything in regards to the 6v6, no fittings, no skill progression because the game is entirely a demo meant to be played at a convention.
Let's take a look at a game that CCP has been working on for some time. EVE VR was originally just some of the CCP people that got in on Oculus Rift and made something in their spare time. It grew, quickly.
R+ín = Katee Sackhoff in 2014 FanFest
Map design, map progression, and story mission in 2015 FanFest.
Skills/balance and big upheaval for New Eden's story in 2015 EVE Vegas.
But I want to go back even farther than that. Before R+ín, before the story mission, before Fatal, there was EVE Vegas 2013
If you ever wondered what the quivering heap of fat flesh that is Joseph Ridgeson, well, I am the guy in the lower right with the striped shirt, unkept hair, and crappy beard. The guy next to me with the gray shirt is dear old dad.
That EVE Valkyrie:
- 3v3 with lots and lots of bots.
- Zero load outs.
- We were all Minmatar pilots.
- Infinite ammo with no overheat
- Infinite missiles with nearly no delay.
- Zero skill progression.
- No method of changing out ships.
- No story to speak of.
- No objectives.
- No VO.
- Entirely based around a 3 minute demo.
- Was nearly all of the DK2's in the world (Oculus specifically sent them prototypes).
Now, my morbidly obese grotesque ass could have gotten on the forums to say that EVE: Valkyrie had nearly nothing that would amount to progression or player choice. Instead I gushed about how fun it was to fly around and shoot things and how bloody clever it is to have the VR tied to the game play via missile launch. My optimism seems to have been vindicated seeing the stuff that has been added and expanded on.
Do you think this possibly relevant in our current situation?

VR was done by a couple of DEVs in their spare time as a personal project.
Not a project that has already been running in one form or another for nearly 4 years.
Not only that but they have been working on Nova for a good few months as a dedicated development team. So far all they have shown is that they can copy and upscale assets into engine that is designed for ease of use.
Saying that Nova has been worked on for 4 years is like saying Blizzard worked on World of Warcraft since 1994. I know that my statement is actually a lot more off than your assertion but I just want to put it in perspective. The idea and concept, sure, but not the game itself.
For all we know, the demo has nothing to do with the game and it was solely made for the purpose of FanFest. They could have been working on Nova, realized that they could pop out a demo in a month for FF, and decided to do it.
And by the time it was called EVE: Valkyrie rather than EVE: VR it wasn't a personal project.
I am only saying that it is too early to tell what is going to happen with Nova. Can we be worried about whatever the hell "scaled MMO" means for content or what "focusing on space" means for gameplay? Absolutely but I think it is a little too early to assume the total worst. Again, this is coming from the guy that still wants to dutch oven Rouge.
If Rattati explains what the name game is going to have and what is going (fittings, ISK, our names, vehicles, only small close-quarter maps), then I think we can start to be angry. We just don't know enough yet.

I am only saying it is super early. We don't even know if the tone or direction is the same or different. We can only say "the demo is different." Until we have written words rather as a post rather than tired devs trying to say the same thing differently for the 100th time without revealing too much, we just dunno.
Couple CPM's have stated/implied they know a lot more than what the devs are saying. And their implications are less "RUUUUNNNNNNNNN!!!" and more "You would feel better if you knew what I knew."
My tune can certainly change. I am a cranky, bitter bastard. If CCP gives out more information that I don't like and we don't like, I'll be the first person saying "Christ, I wish I wasn't wrong to begin with" and start bitching and moaning too! :)
