Graphics wise it doesnt look impressive at all. Animations look stiff and rough (still better then Dust514 though). But ill probs pass on this cause i dont want to deal with millions of micro transactions anymore. I matured as a gamer and F2P games are usually more expensive in the long run then a full fledged game that costs 60Gé¼.
Honestly since CCP decided to move onto the PC my general assumption will be that there might be some heavy link between "Nova" and Eve which will force the eve players to play it aswell. In the end CCP probs gonna double dip on their fanbase which is as follows:
1. Subs for Eve online. 2. Nova clustered with micro transactions which basically forces you to buy em to be competetive.
Dust514 wasnt a testfield about gameplay, it was a testfield for microtransactions and how big the potential would be. Therefore they moved on to the PC where the most amount of players can be found. More players= more micro transactions etc. I wouldnt even be surprised if essential items such as skillbooks can only be obtained from Strongboxes.

They removed vehicles cause the normal player is either too stupid or ignorant to take care of em so the solution is to eliminate everything that "annoyed" the casual player. Which means they take the game into space where you dont need vehicles at all to move around. I probs can sum it up like this:
-Redline got annoying? Removed -Vehicles are too hard to kill/balance? Removed -Snipers that sit in the redline? No problem cause redline doesnt exist anymore -High ground tactical uplinks? Not possible cause no more Dropships -Orbital strikes from eve? Nope not gonna work inside of a spaceship/station -PC fights will probs be replaced with capturing stations/citadells instead of beeing on a planet -Complex fitting? Nah casuals cant deal with that so they streamline it down to suit, gun and a equipment -game modes are just going to be copy pasted from COD.
So they rip the stuff out that made the game unique and replace it with casual friendly COD elements. Hmm i wonder how thats gonna workout cause ya know we all know how "good" COD clones are received on the gaming market. Todays gaming scene is all about of beeing unique and fun to play. Since the first thing is allready out of the question it basically reduces the success chance by 50%.
Unless CCP handsout more information then this game will flop. Oh and Inb4 you get early beta access by purchasing the "merc pack" from CCP.

But no, the full game will no longer have a redline, because it's intended to have an open-world layout.
Fighting in spaceship with set objectives and spawns with small corridors isnt open world. Open world games are like GTAV, far Cry4, Just Cause etc and as a prime example Planetside 2. Sure it might be a tech demo but its in a appearently playable state at the fanfest. So yeah i feel entitled enough to not be delusional fanboy who swallows everything from CCP in a desperate attempt to replace Dust.
To further elaborate about the open world thing i probs imagine you just gonna select a random planet, which then has a certain map assigned to it which is going to repeat itself numereus times. If the transition from one area to another isnt seamless its not open world.
You should be more cautious cause for all i know CCP went onto full blown greed mode. Look at eve online where you pay for your sub (in some way or another) and yet its getting bombarded with micro transactions. Now imagine how bad this gonna get on this "new" F2P game on PC?
Im skeptical until CCP shows me more how this whole thing is going to work otherwise you can title it "COD in space". Which ironically might happend with this years COD release.
Besides the more critics/feedback they get the more of a chance you have to change something.

By the way the game has reduced playercounts. Dust has 32 players (16vs16) and Nova has 12 players (6vs6) active on one map. Sure they want to focus on more gunfights but i would have recommended to orientate the game more towards Battlefield and not COD. Battlefield is for mature players while COD is for players that have the mindset of a goldfish.
If CCP follows trough with this "COD concept" i can allready predict that the game will flop massively. Not mainly because its copying COD but simply due to the fact that the PC market is oversaturated with COD clones. So why should i be happy with a cheap clone if i could go ahead and play the original?

Well see about that some time later down the road. Until then ill relate to the demo on the fanfest. Ya know if you presentate a game in a early stage you have a general idea where your game is supposed to go. The public only reacts in two ways to a presentation which is either negative or positive. However since it is heavily influenced by Dust it has to be compared. Every alternation, every design decision has the chance to alienate their former/current playerbase.
Imagine it if CCP releases EVE 2 which is drastically dumbed down where you can only chose a ship but arent aible to alter the fitting. That would cause a massive uproar in the existing playerbase and with that the potential to loose your playerbase.
Surely i will keep an eye out for development changes and more gameplay while time passes. But for now it hasnt made a good start at all. Most developers hold off with public presantations till they know where they are going with the game and what the concept is all about. If you just go ahead and do it to keep the dust players on the hook while having a crappy presantation you only risk it to loose sayd players.
Anyway i would like to know if CCP will be at the gamescom this year and if "project Nova" will be showcased there.

Breakin Stuff wrote:Rattati and Company have taken the tack that simply porting the game as-is would be unacceptable. Lag problems, buggy code, easy to exploit glitches that seem hardwired into the core of the game, poor hit detection, the list goes on. Starting clean with a new interface, and building the core game around an engine that was not their Frankenstein UE3 job was key.
As a result the development priority, so far as I can tell (I do not sit in on the internal development meetings, and I have to extrapolate a lot) is that the primary goal for the early phases of development is a functional shooter where all of the basic mechanics (running, shooting, hacking, not falling through the map) are addressed first, completed first and adjusted to work as intended before scooting forward and adding in things that people may want, or expect.
That's what the tech demo is, effectively, in my opinion. It's a show that CCP Shanghai's current crop of developers can build a game capable of delivering a meaningful in-the-helmet combat game that is fun to run and shoot people with first, before all other considerations. If that doesn't happen, then none of the MMO, touchy-feely social, or vehicle features will matter.
DUST proved you could have an amazing social experience centered around a mediocre first-person shooter. The current team is building a good shooter first, then adding in the things that might make the shooter into a proper game with social aspects and betrayal meta, more in-depth features, etc.
But without that good core gameplay? None of the rest of it matter anyway. Im not critisising the aspect of moving from U3 to U4 thats actually a smart move. What im having a problem with that the ideas with vehicles and large fights are beeing scrapped. And mentioning that the system around fittings etc. is beeing dumbed down is another apsect to be woried about. You would assume when you move from console>PC the game would get more complex but in this case it seems the opposite way. That decision seems to be completely irrational.
Maybe i should explarotate a bit of why i played dust: Once Mag was shut down i was bored with COD and games that are similar to it. So ive browsed trough the PS store and saw the closed beta for Dust514. I made some research and it seemed to be similar to MAG so ive hopped onto it. First i was overwhelmed with the complexity but later on ive learned that this is the decision point of where you want to go in the game. I could start playing logi, assault or heavy or go and help my team with vehicles. Many different choices and each decision refined my playstyle.
Thats what made Dust unique where every merc specced differently and that aswell showed on the battlefield where you bring a certain value with sayd spec. Balanced teams had a varietion of everything which was beutyfull to see. If that goes away it then Nova looses the very reason why i sticked with Dust for so long.

You are putting the cart before the horse.
Just because it's not shown in the video game equivalent of a demo reel doesn't mean it's been slashed out conceptually. I get the feeling we're going to be repeating ourselves a lot. Nah i think im done for now. Discussing this matter is pointless cause both sides can bring up arguments till they fall over dead. We get to know how the game will work once CCP launches a beta for it. Thats "IF" CCP decides to go into full development. It could just aswell do the Dodo and we never hear from it ever again.
