So what is this game? It's a top down 5v5 or 10v10 team based top down twin stick space active RTS where you pilot your own ship loadout to capture outposts in order to hack a giant laser cannon that destroys the enemy base (or destroy the enemy base yourself with brute force) to win the match.
Similar mechanics: -The ability to customize your ships and switch between loadouts mid-game -Capturing nodes to speed up the progress in which you win the game -Team based "shooter" -Ships have varying armor, shield, and speed levels, with each class having specific trait bonuses (scouts capture outposts fastest, raiders have the largest cargo holds, frigates have the most firepower and defense) -Upgrading your ships after battle with augmentation nodes to increase base stats -Procedurally generated maps with random outposts
Additional mechanics: -Collecting resources to upgrade your outposts -Multiple types of outposts with different upgrade options -Random events such as comet storms, guardian drones, or giant capital ships warping into the region to stir up battle -Each ship has unique abilites and weapons that can be upgraded as you level up
I highly recommend checking it out. Sure it's not a first person shooter, but it feels and plays very much like Dust, if it was using EVE ships, while in a much smaller scale region on a 2D plane at about 100x the speed of EVE fights

I used to be (still am) a serious movie fan.
When a movie like Jaws came out in the movie theaters, if it proved successful, a dozen or so hollywood producers would rush out as if "they just invented a cool new original idea for a movie---a movie about an animal terrorizing and killing people!"... And suddenly they'd be movies like GRIZZLY, TENTACLES, FROGS, DAY OF TH ANIMALS, AND PROPHECY!
All these were debatable copy-cats of the Jaws movie, and they were the greatest tribute to how successful a piece of work Jaws was.
Critics and many players are calling the game a failure, and something that was destined not to work because of its design. We're approaching the disconnection of Dust's Server (I don't call it a death of Dust 514 or an end, because the game just ran out of development time, not development interest). ....And SUDDENLY, half a dozen game devs are jumping up saying "by the way, we just finished the go-ahead on a cool new idea for a game--- and MMO set in an imaginary space universe, where players join military entities, and mine for stuff, and it's part spaceship sim shooter, and it's part first person shooter, killing people!"
LOL! O - M - G! Star Citizen? Dead Star? Oh, I know the next titles: "Planetary Takedown!",... "Star Celestial Warriors!" (....no, I said Celestial, not Celesta. heehee).
What's my impression of these suddenly-released games? They make me smile. They mean that CCP succeeded in permanently stamping their ideas and bold concepts into a game market that was as brain-dead as the movie producers before Jaws and Star Wars, etc. Hybrid fps and rpg... working with other players to achieve REAL team objectives... wealth accumulation through industry-OR-combat as the player prefers... This is the area that I feared CCP would fail. Fail to get their bold concepts remembered and tried out by other devs. I'm glad to see it looks like CCP suceeded BIG TIME. These new dev games are the greatest sign that Dust 514 was a daring success. I hope someone in the Devs department is still reading these posts. We have a lot more to thank them for than we can realize right now...
My sweetie just suggested we buy Dust 514 tee-shirts so we can salute the game in style. I agree.
Universe of good wishes for the 49, especially CCP Eterne...

This is a really simple but really awesome little game. Thanks for putting me on to it.
It's almost like a sort or Moba/Classic arcade game with some really fast paced combat and a cool upgrade paths of each ship.
I played a few rounds and one of them stood out as a really intense and action filled game on a seven sector map. Early game our team was working to clear out the neutral enemies from all of the adjacent sectors to ours and then mine asteroids in pairs to quickly upgrade our bases.
We lost control of 3 of the neutral zones but picked up two of our own (a 4:3 split) before we started to get enemy team members pushing into out sectors and trying to loot our asteroids. We spent all of our time killing the miners and stealing their minerals to out pace the enemy teams base building.
By the end of the game (of 600 tickets) our teams were roughly neck and neck (575 to us 585 to them) before they started a massive fleet fight of all 7 of ours vs 8 of theirs in one sector using more Frigates than they should have been. We flew circles around them in Scout ships and ended up winning the match 600 tickets to their 599.

It's not so much of a copy of another game as it is a creative combination of a lot of the best aspects of many games

It's available on PC as well with cross play to PS4! (though it's a $20 game...might get a steam sale here soon that was rumored)
Also, here's some gameplay footage if anyone is interested: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9V1Cxf0SZnU

Other than that, carry on.

Oh and Vindicators awesome its not even funny.
Just use a little scout ship like the Razor for early game levels until you hit level 5. Then switch to the Vindicator and put all four levels in missiles. Congrats you have the 'Missile Hell' build.

Installed it on my PS4. Deleted it an hour later. Not into the 2d stuff. Not since about 1990. Free though. |
