Good Day,
I wonder what the Burn Rate of the Dust Servers are?
I mean it's clear there is still interest in the game. I keep running into new folks playing it.
I suppose it's a PS3 thing. At some point it's going to die, so why keep a game up and running when half (?) of it's users are running a decade old machine.
The PS4 has been out for almost 2.5 years and for whatever reason they decided against porting it over to that machine. I'm sure they were informed of the ps4 in advance so they had plenty of opportunity to port the game if they had wanted to.
Somehow I don't think it's that difficult to move a program from ps3 to ps4, but I'm not a programmer, so that's a guess at best. I'm not trying to criticize, just understand.
Keeping the Dust servers up and running must cost them something.
They could have sold the program to Sony or someone else and let them keep it running. I mean, on the weekends I saw 30,000 + folks regularly, and still see 20,000+ during the week.
Oh well.
How are they going to acknowledge the users in the new game if we were ps3 users? We login with a Sony ID, which presumably the new game won''t be able to use.
Thanks for reading this. |

Check here for server overview and then here for dust 514 players online, maybe you see that your dust numbers aren-¦t that good, all time weekly average 1841 dust 514 players.

Actually, the PS3 has Cell architecture, while the PS4 (and PC, and Xbox) have x86 architecture.
Having different architectures create much more work in porting to different platforms. This is a big reason that the PS4 switched.

Since it appears you haven't heard, this game is being shut down in about two months. CCP is creating a new game, based off of this game, that has yet to be announced. Most likely it will go to PC, but many are hoping for a port to PS4 eventually.

The high 20k number of online players is total number of players on Tranquillity; which includes both Eve Online & Dust 514 players.

Not only is this true but it is the best move Sony has made in quite some time. Going from PC to PS4 or vice versa is basically a few UI tweaks and an input scheme to match the device. Heck if you have played War Thunder on PS4 you have probably seen the mouse cursor pop up from time to time because they just popped it right on over with minimal modifications.
Too bad we will likely never see that happen with New Eden: FPS 2.0. |
