The Gunnloggi with a blaster is the much, much higher skill ceiling vehicle.
Sure a maddy can do a lot, and even a pure muppet can do alright in them. But they can be dogpiled pretty easily, and even just a couple of swarmers can drive it off.
The shield blaster tank is the height of skill in this game. Lots of module management, stopping is fatal, but in return you get biblical tank. Pretty much every time you die you can trace it back to an error you made, and work to correct it. It rewards every effort you put in, and will let you stroll into fights that would have a maddy broken in seconds.
The maddy is easy mode, and easily killed, no matter what the player does, the shield blaster setup allows the driver to be the deciding factor, rather than the hull.

If your always moving, most plcs will miss. They won't miss a maddy. The best gunnloggi fits allow you to eat the first PLC shot and then boost, so even a kubos needs to good hits.
Yes, you can get av naded, but the maddy eats it in the same situation.
The maddy is not faster than the gunnloggi. It has a higher top speed until you slap a plate on it, at which point the speed difference across the ground is notable. Even an enhanced plated maddy is a pig compared to the shield tank.
To top it off the shield tank gains a more notable advantage with gunners. Not only can they carry turrets catered to their chief opponent, but having troops on board neatly cures the most notable weakness of the tank, the lack of turret depression.
I don't know if you can fit it, but take the Turtle fit out, run away from enemy blaster tanks until you are comfortable driving rings around everything else.

1 Complex Extender
1 Enhanced Heavy Booster

Complex CPU and PG.
Step down to a basic booster, and downgrade the extender to make it fit. The triple complex hardeners are not an option.
Once you come to grips with how and when to modulate your hardeners, the thing is an absolute beast. Can face down waves of AV, soak rail shots, and is immune to missiles with a hardener active.
Learning the booster is the whole thing. When it will work, when it might, when it won't, for sure. Being able to count on the booster, as much as the game allows is what lets you pull off absolutely insane engagements.
I slagged off shield tanks for a long time, pretty much since they eliminated the speedy regen fits. When I finally got back into a fully active shield tank, the adjustment was a shock. But the rewards, oh boy.

I have more tanking experience, especially in competitive matches, than anyone still playing.
If you don't know anyone who has seen The Attorney General, then you don't know anyone of consequence.
Although, if you would like to make a Youtube video of you getting your **** pushed in, I'll be glad to dust off the PS3 and show you the business.
