Suit: Assault ck.0
High Slots: 3 Complex Myofibs, 2 Shield Extenders
Low Slots: 2 Complex Kin Cats, 1 Complex Cardio Reg
Light Weapon: Mass Driver of Choice
Sidearm: Sidearm of choice
Equipment: Nanohive

I'm not going to repeat all the MD arguments here, but no it's not a noob weapon. In fact there is nothing more satisfying than lobbing a long bomb at the predicted location of a running merc and connecting. It's like being a QB.
I agree completely with you. Long Range Mass Driver kills are very satisfying.
