I normally run hacker/uplink scout, av suit or logi.
I have been successfuly trying out new roles since the shutdown announcement.
But I am having trouble with the cal assault as well-- glad its not just me.
Hopefully some of the loadouts in this thread will help

Don't need regulation because it's a balac ck.0
I like running AR/SMG combo so I got a balac gar and Cala Core locus, k2 nano, 100% needle. I did wonder about the Balac. I only have three of them and I don't know where they came from. Battlefield salvage is my guess. Where can I buy them? They don't seem to be in the market. you can find them in player trade chats or friends. Suit is pretty rare so use the 3 you have with caution. They range from 5-10 mill each.

So far I haven't used any of my 3. I actually fight better in BPO fits because I'm not risking anything, so I tend to attack without concern for dyng. I actually find this works better for me, and my opponents tend to react quite favourably. I remember a time when I used to be so scared of an attacking opponent that I couldn't aim straight and tended to die because I just didn't do anything right. Now the shoe is on the other foot. :)

I wanted to see if there was any point to this thread but its just a bunch of armoured caldari with shotguns?....
Just run dual kincats, cardiac reg,4extenders and a recharger thingy. Reloading a shotgun is around the amount of time it takes for sheild charge to begin.
Move fast, jump from cover to cover. That measly chunk of armour isn't enough to do anything vs other shotguns. You'll still be a two shot regardless. One for the sheild, one for what's left of it and the armour.
It all boils down to situational awareness(which I presumably can't spell)

Thanks George. Yes, I suck at CalAss. I run scout A LOT, and find that the speed of a CalScout can be amazing, but I have to watch detection. As long as I stay at range, take the long way around to get places and stay cloaked as much as possible, most of the time I have no trouble. I regularly take out enemies from the flank at extreme distance with my State Rail Rifle.
The Kampo that I got from you has come in very handy. I now have four BPO fits that I use pretty much most of the time - a CalAss, CalLogi, CalScout and CalScout with a BPO MLT SR. I would say I use one or other of these about 90% of the time, and only go to a ck.0 when I need the power for some reason and even then only if I think I'm reasonably safe. I'm VERY averse to losing gear and have a surprising amount of really good gear that I simply never use, and now over 240mill ISK. I die a lot but I expect to, and the BPO fits mean that I don't pay for it, other than once-off to buy the BPOs, of course.
It's surprisingly exhilarating to run around in BPO fits that can actually do damage - Hawk, Rasetsu, Kampo and also on occasion Samurai.... |

Thanks, catz, yes, I see a lot of recommendations for armour on Caldari suits both in this thread and elsewhere. My gut feeling is that it's very contrary to the whole point of Caldari, light, fast, nimble. There are some situations where I think armour is warranted, when you're stuck in a spot, like for instance as a logi repping someone, and you might take some hits, even though you're hiding as well as you can.
But speed is the thing. I have tried a kincat and a cardio, and that works wonders. I actually speed fit my scouts that way - the cardio gives you stamina to keep running, the kincat gives you the speed to keep running FAST, even though your cloak may not last as long as the stamina.
I've never tried dual kincats and a cardio on a CalAss. But it's worth the trial. I'll let you know how it goes. |

The only major difference is the IshARR. I use a KaalaRR most of the time for range. But the IshARR is better for closer encounters. That's when you need the extra armour.... ;) |

The best fool proof counter to shotguns and cloaked scouts in general is spacial awareness. Always be on the watch for enemies trying to flank you. If you and a group of teammates are moving forward on an objective and no one is guarding the rear. Be at the back of the group and constantly check your six and flank.
This is the best way to counter scouts, no equipment or weapon can match the power of your spacial awareness.

Example using myself- galass
Advantages- fast, armor tanked, high rep, high damage at cqc Disadvantages- low stamina, weak at long ranges, slow total regen
I usually fight by running to the enemy to get in range, taking as much cover as possible and using my speed to surprise. I try to avoid open areas because they set me up to die.

This is the best way to counter scouts, no equipment or weapon can match the power of your spacial awareness. When I'm with a group, this is exactly what I do - mainly because noone else is doing it! :)
When I'm soloing, of course, it's harder but I'm always trying to cover all directions, unless I'm sprinting from cover to cover, at least. |
