I am very optimistic about the next version.
Mainly because being pessimistic only causes problems, and doesn't help anything.

Dust has many unique things over other fps's. A unique and persitent universe, where your actions could affect the entire community, one of the most detailed fitting systems, and also a unique community, among other things.

Also, lag is very much a common thing among all fps's not just Dust.

The absolute worst case scenario is that they just make DUST as it is now and put it on PC and refuse to learn lessons from the past.
Not including the PC community who will hack the game into an inch of its life or the countless other FPS games out already it has to compete with but it can survive better on PC than PS3 even with such a small playerbase.
Who says they won't learn from the past? They certainly did learn from the Rogue Wedding, as was seen in the way they announced this port.

Valkyrie looks good development-wise, but I guarantee it will fail becasue of VR. VR is a niche market with high barrier of entry. It is a gimmick and gimmicks don't last. Add in people like me with motion sickness and you have an even lower player base. I'm not paying for a VR setup only to find that I cant overcome the motion sickness.
I'll bet, knowing CCP, they didn't make it easy to drop the VR out of the programming.
Likewise, I see them taking way too long to get a new FPS to a point that people will enjoy it and not feel it is limited and repetitive. The FPS audience doesn't work like CCP works with slow, constant development.

And there is a difference between cautious and calculating and downright pessimistic and denying anything good can happen.
