I am a long time player of Dust. I first learned of it from P.S.N. Home, and have been slowly building on it ever since. I have a daily sign in of nearly 1 year which shows you how much I like the game.
Dust514 could have been a money maker and still can be, closing the game down is not necessary. All you needed to add was a small open wandering world type of area with little daily goals to achieve, a little in game chatbox, and a third rate story line, with fourth rate acting voices, which even you the developers could have had fun and did yourself. Look at DC Universe, Their game was a PS2 game that they forced onto PS3, it had just as many issues or MORE when it came to lagging and staying connected, shutdowns for maintenance were almost weekly and each had a nearly 30 to 45 minute wait... They later overhauled it to work better with PS3, at the cost of no new content for a looooong while but once they fixed it it thrived to the point of them crossing it over to the PS4.
You all are the creators of EVE, and I know the game makes money as boring as it is, it have been around for over a decade, what kept it alive was the massive story, the people did the rest. The never ending pursuit to screw somebody over while smiling in their face is an age old flaw of humanity and is hard pressed to go anywhere anytime soon.
Yes a major overhaul would hurt, but it would be well worth it in the end, especially on the PS4. There is still know other game quite like this one. And I play your (would be) biggest rival: "Planetside 2". Planetside has vast islands a working night and day system, less of a grind rate, and more vehicles and suit classes that you can shake a stick at, but lacks the most basic element that you all nailed early to make the game feel real, the body impact engine. When I hit someone with a plasma round in my Magrider tank, their bodies are supposed to fly. Instead they just kind of faint in a 1 of 4 possible uniform ways... As epic as their game is, it too, lacks true daily objectives and a true story-line. Not to mention their air-vehicle flight engine feels fake, Child TOY fake.
But anyway, I kind of went off subject, I am a Playstation user my computers are not for games. The few I have tried on PC have been out right plagued with hackers and cheaters. Even Planetside on PS4, due to it's melding with the PC has an issue with Aimbots. I play play PS to excape them. I am going to wait until you all release the game on PS4 again. If that never happens well so be it. There were a lot of things you all were supposed to do for this game that you never did, (A full Player to Player market, true linking to Eve, Ect.) And that has me nervous to invest into anything else you will make in the future. It took 2 years and a couple grand to get my character the way I wanted it, you all are packing up your toys a shipping out. It doesn't matter what you learned from the game if you fail to learn customer loyalty. By the looks of the Warbarge this game was supposed to last decades, just getting it to level 5 in one area took months over months. To me the very least you could do is make it a multiplayer home game so we can play on our own or with friends through link play. Or just: "Hey folks, we have decided to go in a new direction with the game, so to that end there will be no more new content, and we are boiling down the staff to keep the game running only. " "Major issues will be addressed but it may take time." and let the game go on. Sell it, or GIVE it to me. I will find a way to do it; Because there are still a lot of people who play, and new players come everyday. It is a free to play game and is a go-to for when times get rough and you cannot afford to play any of the games that require subscriptions. Not even DC Universe can say that... If you have not bought the content the game all but halts even to the point of you not being able to use equipment if you do not have the slots.
So yes, this was my first topic. I have always watched but never had a real reason to say anything. I did most of my talking on the field, with BULLETS & spent SHELLS. =o'..'~= |

Oh yes. Dust was very popular there too. It is how a lot of players got started most just wanted the little Drone pet in the beginning, then they actually tried it and we got hooked. If you all had did a little more with them this game would have flown like a Bald Eagle from a poacher after being injected with steroids. This was how I got a lot of my friends to join. Sadly I had no idea about how to do the recruitment thing... Even that hard tail board-game you all made was popular. I would always see no less than 5 people playing every time I went to that space. Home users were collectors and any time you offered a pet, we were there with bells on. If you had a main Place Hub or Plaza set up game? We would play the life out of it THEN get hooked on the real thing. It was a Vicious Cycle, one that was both fun, and soul sucking. |

Heimdallr69 wrote:Yeahh the cheating part is all that worries me about PC..no matter how good the game becomes I won't play it if it's infested with hackers..
And sadly with PC you cannot avoid them. People even cheat on DCUO, if you can believe it. There is literally nothing you can get outside of missions of any value to the advancement of your character. But you will see people using Boxbots in high enemy zones often super late at night for nothing more than to get base item drops to sell in the broker... And to me if they are having issues just keeping this game connected and coded right, they are not ready for anything to do with bots. You know what that is not fair... Even the corporations with so-called TOP Tier coders aren't ready for these hackers out there now. Here the worst I have seen is a stray immortal car, or hyper sped tank, which I actually found funny. The worst I have seen on Planetside is a Freeze Shot, locking your vehicles hit markers in place for your opponent. You can hide all day long behind a mountain, when you get locked your vehicle will still take phantasmic damage until it explodes because to them, your liberator is stuck in the air looking like it was sprayed with Sky-stick Superglue. There is nothing fun about that happening to you over and over again. Or Red, Purple and Blue Bots that can lock onto any set faction, and so long as the bullet has the range to reach? (PAH!) Instant head-shot. |

OK now I see you just like the sound of your own voice, actually knowing what you're talking about is irrelevant to you. CCP are absolutely ready for bots because they've been detecting and banning them frequently for over 10 years. Jeezus of all the unfounded accusations towards CCP in the last few weeks this one really takes the cake.
I shall answer your questions one at a time. Why would a game still be popular if it were infested with hackers? Well for one, most games start off clean until they get cracked. Do I think you would stick around even though your games would be plagued with cheaters? Absolutely. People continue to play because either they do not realize what is actually happening to them or because they have invested so much into the game, via time and money they refuse to let the game go. I still play Panetside 2, this and DCUO in spite of the cheaters. For every Bot user they banned there are 5 more that skated by, and every last one of them had one or more slush and/or Alt accounts in case the one they were using got banned. (If they were smart though, they NEVER placed their primary account in danger to begin with. That is Hack-gain 101: You never risk your Primary.) I know of several people that can tap into admin accounts and actually build fully built vet accounts in WoW and have been doing so for years. Is WoW still hyper popular? Do people still play even though they KNOW it is festering with hackers, cheaters, and bots? Of coarse it is and of coarse they do. Bot users are like roaches; until you vaporize the ground you stand on, there will always be a pair to make more. |
voice acting would not save this game i hate voice acting even when it's tripple AAA. it sounds stupid most of the time the dialogue sux the character are either super cute or super mean voices voice acting is just a gimmick to try and make a sht game seem good
we asked for free roam since 2012 but i dont even think that could save it now- too little too late.
lol anyone remember them saying they were gonna add procedual planets
also your way off that planetside 2 PS4 has merged with PC servers.. not sure where you get that from, all they did was merge the seperate USA PS4 servers all onto Genudine which is PS4 only server. there not even technically the same game, your confused warthunder or something..[/quote/]
According to 2 friends I play with, they are on the PC. They recently had a major update which incorporated all the features of the PC version. Originally I thought it was still separate also until I met them. And that is when all the freeze shots started happening.
You would be in the minority believing that voice-overs would do no good. DC is a prime example of the opposite being true. It single-handedly has some of the worst voice acting since 80's Kung-Fu flicks, but it is there. It progresses the story for you and that is enough. Like You-tube is enough for most people to watch free movies, zero pixel quality, but who cares? It is the movie you want to watch, for FREE. I know for a fact a Dev delivered and done script along with just one full island, and a few objectives would turn it around. The new players would love it. The Vets would enjoy and pick fun at it a little but over all be grateful for it. Spending cash to buy that next skin or Print as a thank you.

To be fair the perfect example of voice overs cursing a video game would be Bethesda's Fallout 4. For all the talent used to give your character a voice they should have put some into the dialogue wheel so it was more like Fallout, Fallout 2, even Fallout 3's dialogue system.
I understand your point, but that would not be the case here. Fallout had voices to begin with so naturally they could only go downhill from that, especially if they had a killer Actor/Actress/Story combo going on. Parted games normally lean solely on their story to draw in customers, and that is why most people play them once and then move on until the next one comes out. Even the "Halo" game that was kind of like "Destiny", (Because people were so used to seeing what happens next with the Master Chief) eventually toppled. There is a fine line you have to start at when you launch. Not "Destiny" Huge with Mega Name Actors, or people will see everything compared to the launch as "Hype-filled" garbage. Not too small, With literally no advertisements and a lame game because you are holding out on so much good material for your games progression. DC did it right more so on the Destiny side, over all, they could not keep the quality of the acting to the point of even having to change some of the major voices, such as wonder woman and Martian Manhunter. However they made up for this by giving you MASSIVE customization increases. This latest Episode is a prime example. The Acting banter between Green Arrow and Black Canary is BEYOND horrid, if it weren't so "D-rate funny", it would be "Office" hard to watch. Dust walked that line, because they had a large Eve fan base to get the word out, and they fired a torpedo right in the heart of Playstation's Info Network, (PSN Home) the game took off with enough of a gathering to make a slight rumble and some noise of its own. Where THEY messed up was with the targeting. Normally when you create a spin-off your first instinct would be to market to the fan base you already have, and while that can work if you have a 2 games of the exact style, (Stargate Atlantas to Stargate SG-1") it will eventually tire out and the fans will go back home to the original, because hey, nothing beats the original that has everything instead of an add-on that focuses on one element or character that made the series great. They should have focused on marketing it like it was a new shooter so everybody could see it as that THEN through a little in game vent portal learn about EVE. Eve is nothing like Dust, those are two different kinds of players. Like trying to convince a Chest player to swap to Video games. Plus the fact that EVE is such a large Grind style game, it is even less likely they will stay around because nobody has enough time in the day to play grind games that big... Lest they forsake bathing.... A commercial would have been nice or more ads on the Playstation Whats new, and home-site Screen. The Star-map was perfect to the Eve running story, as a delivery system. All they needed was a somebody to document EVE history there and add a narrator, The Former tutorial Voice of Sara, (I missed her... "Would you like to know more?") And with each planet and area on the planet allow you to go down and do a little single or Duo Type mission. Honestly they could have done that without any Voice-overs for the mission intros, like the Original Armored Core did. It actually added to the uneasy feeling of not knowing what you were getting yourself into the game would give you naturally. (Do I have the right EQUIPMENT?! DO I HAVE ENOUGH AMMO?!? WHY WON"T ANYONE TALK TO ME!?!?!? "Mission Start" *Loud Spontaneous Female Voice* "Raven...." *Me* "AAH!!!" "I MEAN...... "Le's do dis...." Hahaha!
But again I digress, Dust never started off with any kind of real story nor any voices, anything is a step up from nothing, so the sky was and still is their limit. And right now would actually be the best time to do so because going out of business sales has put some places on the map as far as money is concerned. When Home was taken, on there were as many people old and new as when Home first started as an Open Beta. We were all (especially us Vets) quite curious why anyone would be stupid enough to close a game even though there were so many new players. Kind of what is happening now. The match making has a bug, but once I learned how to by-pass it, I have recently played steady matches from early afternoon to shut-down no dead spots more than once. |

Thank you, it is a style I created express the emotion behind my statements, and to ease the pain of reading longer statements. Most people will normally stop reading after the first few sentences. True Gamers have a novel as their arch enemy buried deep in a closet full of other books, under a Christmas Sweater and a two decade old Fruitcake. Making it more like a comic (A true Gamers best friend) generally keeps their attention just long enough for at least half of my point to be made. Our attention span is like..... that........ of.......... I am thirsty, I wonder what's on Hulu? |

Aaaah, thank you. I guess I should try using the emotions there too. My phone tends to be smarter than I am from time to time. I have named her Halina-10,000, due to every time I pick it up the selfie-camera is always running. Like it is watching me...
Also today's sign in was my 365th consecutive sign in. You all should reward me for being so dedicated, Archduke. How about, you let me keep my name, profile, my I.S.K., all of my many blueprints that I bought and earned, a home version of the game, and a launch-date for PS4, with the applied file?
Or, or.... You could always let the servers run and let us all keep playing, we will be good there too. |
