I could think of about a thousand ways to better spend that money, but that's me. I'll watch the highlights online after if they're worth anything, I'm guessing we'll just have a small tech demo and some vague promises about the premise of the next DUST game.
Have fun if you go, make sure to get your moneys worth.

A lot of CCP employees join pub crawl actually, and it is a ton of fun. I'll be there - again - and I hope I can have a group of Mercenaries - again - with me to crawl from pub to pub.

This is very true.
Nearly all the Dev's go on the crawl and despite what the naysayers might say the Dust group is always full and have a lot of fun. There is going to be a focus on Valkyrie obviously this year but there is still going to be other things to do if last year is anything to go by.
The CCP Atlanta office is now the VR 'Shunkworks' for the company and there was a number of really cutting edge demo's of the tech. If you had even a passing interest is game design in any way, there are a number of round tables. presentations and demonstrations about the backroom stuff that makes a game. Most is New Eden and Eve orientated of course but its still fascinating. One of my favourites is the sound design round table being something of a gaming audiophile myself.
The Dev's are also very open, willing to talk to the players and are hungry for feedback.
Also even though not of the CPM got to go last year, we got a ton of discussion and stuff sorted with Rattati, Frame and Rouge so I was always busy.
More details of Dust 2.0 will be shared and the Dev's making it will be there for you to give feedback about it. I don't know what Frame is cooking for Fanfest but he's busy doing it and I'm looking forward to seeing the results.
But obviously it's up to you guys to go or not. I'll be updating you as much as I can via the forums and social media. But even if you just go because you've wanted to visit Iceland you'll still have fun and be surrounded by like minded gamers who essentially take over the most northern capital in the world over for a week.

I guess I'll be doing the same for people interesting in hearing what's going on.

Yeah, at least we wont get a do over on this one Damn... I have heard people talk about the Rogue Wedding but reading that testimonial really put things into perspective. I wouldn't get too teary eyed yet, that post was debunked as a troll post soon after.

While in Europe, I would recommend going to Vienna and seeing the Vienna Philharmonic perform. Your life will be changed.
And, well, despite being fundamentally the same people all over the world (globalization ftw), there are things that are quite different from USA to Europe. Well, actually as far as I have seen, quite a lot. People would be shocked by something you might consider "normal".

Yup even seeing cops walking around with fire arms in public is quite shocking to someone from New Zealand. Yeah we see the odd officer with an automatic rifles from time to time as certain gang related crime sceens but that isn't exactly common or as intimidating as the common handgun.

Not really sure for the rest of europe, but in Italy it would also be quite shocking: policemen, carabinieri, guardia di finanza etc. must all have their handguns into the holster, the magazine must not be in the handgun and the safety catch must be on. Also police forces cannot, for any reason, shoot unless there's someone already shooting at them, meaning that they can't even point a gun at you if you don't have a gun in hands.
Oh, one thing might be curious: there are many things that are considered cold weapons (which are illegal, btw):even a swiss knife with a blade longer than x centimeters (actually I can't remember how many )or even a baseball bat might, for example, be considered a "strumento atto a offendere". Even the pepper spray is illegal if it exceed 20 ml of pepper oil .
