The people still reading/commenting on the forums at this point are the ones who kept this game going as long as it did, and also the ones who have dropped the most money on this product since the beginning. I hope our voices are heard and at least considered when decided the direction of this next game.
The announcement is bittersweet, as I was hoping the next version of Dust would remain on consoles (preferably cross-console), as that would leave EVE for the PC's and (EVE-FPS) for the consoles, grossing a larger overall player base (IMO), I just feel it's pointless to have both games on the same system, but that's just me. But with that hope dashed, I am still happy to see a concrete plan for the future, and I'll make due and probably be investing in a better PC soon.
With all that said, Dust was the best gaming experience I've had, and here's what I'm really hoping for in the next release.
--- Stay true to what was great about Dust ---
The player-driven drama: The corporations, fighting for pride and land. Corporation ranks, spying, treachery, deception, high-stakes PC battles, alliances etc. No other shooter offers that really.
The RPG elements: While this needed improvement, it was quite addicting building your suits, attaining skills etc. The hard part is having good RPG elements, while making it possible for new players to join the game later on. Make it happen
The market: We didn't have this until late, but it offered some players an entire reason to play. Needs a lot of improvement, but we had was fun even in it's very limited version.
--- And improve what wasn't so great... ---
Performance: One of the most pressing matters. Crashing, lag, framerate, small player limits. etc. I'm assuming modern hardware will fix all of this.
Missing content: Maybe now we can have all the weapons/vehicles/pilot suits etc... ?
More free-roam type stuff: I think "quick battles" are still important to have. But in a New Eden game it's important to do more. Walk around stations, interact with EVE players, perhapse customize a corporate HQ, etc. etc. stuff like that.
Better New Player Experience: Perhaps Dust's biggest problem? New players need to be able to turn on Dust and have fun. No matter how late they get into the game.
Better EVE link: Orbital Strikes were neat, but almost everyone expected more. Perhaps Dust players could find resources only usable in EVE, and vice versa, leading for reasons to cooperate? The Dust and EVE players should 'need' each other in some sense.
Crafting: I think you guys were already on the right track with this, but It will be nice to see it come to be.
PVE: Or at the very least some sort of gameplay that isn't pitched 16v16 battles.
Customization: One thing I always pined for. We always needed more. Custom dropsuits, custom vehicles, custom HUD's, custom merc quarters, custom guns, etc. Customization is addicting. Make it happen.
I hope other community vets weigh in on this. What do you want changed? What do you want left alone?

You've made some pretty good points, but did you need to make it a whole new thread? The last post on this topic is still on the front page of GD.

I am being entirely serious right now.
I put 1,600$ dollars into this game, but if I can't trade every BPO in the beta right away, I won't play the next one. That was all I wanted, to trade my 7 or 8 different 'Quafe' guns.
Not a chance. That was painful for me. Painful. I was just sitting there, endlessly proto stomping pubs, with what some BPO lovers would pay hundreds of millions of ISK for, and I never used them. My 'Quafe' RR? Probably used it for 2 days. My 'Quafe' knives? Maybe a day. The AR? If I had a 'Spartan' at the time, I had those for a total of about a month. I just never used 'em. It sucked.
The new game needs to have the same PC style we have now. I mean EXACTLY the same. The way it was implemented, with people being able to bring in ringers, bring in troops, all fighting for land and to stake their claim in Molden Heath... That was ******* brilliant.
Also.
I don't care if you have to code for 4 years to get it right.
Fix the lag.

I think it will be really important and difficult to implement a good RPG system, without ruining the NPE.
You have to be able to play for new stuff over time, but new players need to have fun immediately as well. It will be a fine balance.

Great post.
I'd like to add:
-If we're going to get any type of racial parity, it should include missions that affect the overall "STORYLINE" of the game, and in turn affect the balance of power in New Eden. I think this is where Dust lacked a bit. The main storyline was intriguing when you first turned on your PS3 and saw the cool introductory video hinged upon technology able to create or transfer consciousness thus creating an "immortal soldier". This technology is what changed the balance in power in New Eden. The main storyline or backdrop of the game is the one constant that could change and unite New Eden, both in space with EVE ONLINE and Dust.
-This could translate to: -If New Eden is controlled by a certain faction, it is because someone holds monopoly on certain materials used to make this technology possible. The more your corporation or faction unites to craft or fight for territory that holds these minerals or materials, the cheaper your suits become or something in the like.
Racial alliance badges or rogue badges, but at a more profound level that ultimately affects your reputation and overall experience in New Eden.
-PC will now have an effect on where you choose to fight and whom you choose to fight with. Make the storyline one that hits home. Would you attack a planet that holds burial grounds for your ancestors? Your home? Would you defend it? Might be a silly idea, but I think PC should have more importance than just isk.
I'm just brainstorming. Would like to read your opinions on making the storyline more evident in the next game. o7

Storylines/Missions would certainly be cool.
I posted an idea while back where basically an EVE pilot would need to transport a Dust squad to certain locations IE: asteroids, stations, moons etc. and run through some little PvE mission which would reward all of them. The Dust and EVE players could cooperate in some manner.
However, for a grand story I think one of the coolest features of Dust was how players made their own stories. Look at the post "Dust History", there's some interesting stuff! The treachery and scandals, betrayal, epic show-downs between alliances, etc. No other games really have a complete player-driven story like that!
I hope the ability to do that only gets better!

My idea for the heavy laser hasn't changed in 2 years idk why they couldn't use it.
Charge for a few seconds like you would for a scrambler rifle. Say 2-3 seconds Fire a continuous beam for 4-6 seconds like a laser rifle but higher damage. Forced cooldown like when you over heat a scrambler rifle but without the feedback damage for 2-3 seconds
1 charge fired in total of 8-12 seconds total. Tweak numbers. They could speed it up to make it an infantry weapon.
