The problem with matchmaking in DUST is the completely new players being exposed to any and every other player, I understand that person may be more likely to buy AUR to compete but you'd rather have them stick around then be at risk of quitting the game early on, right?
To explain further right now we do not have the playerbase to separate players, matches wouldn't start and would be empty, hell at the moment matches are launching 10v7 and that's using one pool of players.
For the new game we need more pools of players like how the battle academy is exclusive to certain players. I would have some flexibility and make it partly-determined by your stats and attributes but partly-determined by what meta level your suits and weapons are, as in you don't always have to fight in the very top tier if you've unlocked the last items but you couldn't drop down like 10 brackets with complete beginners, you could however be able to use slightly lesser gear and fight in the bracket just below you, so you choose when you want that challenge of being in the top tier but can't put yourself at a huge advantage in the bottommost tier, if you were to choose the worst gear you would still be high up in the brackets due to how good you personally are, I'm not sure how this would work with veteran players teaching brand new players.
The battle academy is a great idea, but we need the equivalent of more battle academies. That way players can learn with other players around them, be evenly matched and focus on skill and tactics rather than having the bigger gun.
SO when you create this new game on PC make sure you do this, don't mess up like how DUST started, because new players have never stood a chance, we need tiered matchmaking from the beginning so 2 years down the line we're not thinking "hmm, if only there was a way to separate the players and create even matches, well there is but we don't have the playerbase to do that", we don't want to hit that wall again and hit it so soon.
DUST also didn't have the longevity which you originally planned, please don't artificially create this through grinding and padding and SP-sinks and ISK-sinks, new vehicles and weapons and suits would obviously extend the lifespan of the game.
The old skill cap wasn't great, but the booster stacking and the rate at which you can now earn skill points, also removed some longevity from the game.
I'm sure you will know what to do having learned a lot from DUST, being on a great engine etc. I say stuff because I know it's what I would like to see, so it is only one person's opinion

TL;DR, find an interesting, workable, meaningful way of allowing new players to learn the game and not get mercilessly stomped on to death in their redline; make sure players aren't unable to play with each other due to their "ranking (meta level etc)"but aren't thrown in the deep end straight away.
