This news fills me with both sadness and joy.
Sadness for my favourite game going to the grave... A game that have kept me from switching on my PS4 many times. Sadness for 1.3 never going to see the day of light... Both from a community standpoint (going out with a bang), but especially for the Devs and CCP Rattati who worked their ass off to make it happen, but never reached the goal. (I am working in the software business myself, I know from personal experience this sucks...really really bad)
But knowing a FPS in New Eden is in the works makes up for all of the above. When they announced Legion and said they were going to use the same modified Unreal 3 engine as Dust514, I have never screamed Nooooooo (Darth Vader's voice) so hard at my screen before.
Very glad they start from scratch!
My only worry is that the new game will only share universe with EVE, but no actual interaction (like Valkyrie). The game need more interaction, not less, and the foundation need to placed from the start to allow this. This is not something you can add later, (as we saw with Dust). My 2 ISK
To the Devs I just want to say this; Thank you for the amazing journey, all the way from closed beta! And a special thank you to CCP Rattati! We don't call you Dust Jesus and Saviour for nothing you know I really hope you stay on for the next journey! |

Thats just my own musing by the way. We've not had that kind of detail given to us.
I really really hope they connect it to EVE more than mere name and Corp belongings (if that). The connection to EVE is what drew me to Dust, and the most immersive gaming experience in my life comes from coordinating orbitals in FW (from either side). This (personal opinion) is what makes Dust stand out from other shooters, and I can think of several scenarios this can be further developed.
That being said, the new game do need to stand on its own legs, but that is what we have high sec (and low?) for.
Edit: To further my point, Dust 2.0 + EVE need to be a serious competitor to Star Citizen and Elite Dangerous... Not Battlefield. |
