So the lessons are clear...games of scale and depth, where development lifecycles extend over years are just not meant for consoles...consoles are hardwrae limited...therefore the development and longevity of such deep games is also limited on consoles...especially shooters which are very resource intensive..
CCP has done something smart finally by recognizing that what they are trying to accomplish in terms of scale and depth and the ability to actually ceate it, is only possible on PC....
This new game when launched, will be a welcome FPS addition on PC...
I hope they have large player caps and timed rounds, so we get scale but without the neverending unimaginative meta of Planetside 2....
They should also provide a mechanism to take any aurum balances that players have left when Dust closes, to the new game when launched....that's the rignt thing to do...
Good luck all and happy gaming.
If I had the PC version of Planetside2's mechanics and visual capabilities with Dust's suit/vehicle customization and visual style (and lore, history, etc) I may never leave my computer.
Planetside 2 is where I went after 2+ years of Dust and I loved the mechanics, and I eventually got OK with KB/M, but the game felt hollow and I stopped playing.
CCP has been mixing it up in EVE a lot recently, including a new launcher that allows for multiple characters to be launched with specific settings for each. A while ago, they showed a "vision" of a unified launcher for EVE, Dust, and Valkyrie. If CCP want's to put all my SP on my EVE character for the new game, and let me launch into New-Legion from the new PC launcher, I'd be OK with that
Whatever happens to our characters, I will be giving the new game a shot. I only hope that CCP extends Alpha and Beta invites to the current players of Dust. |

I suspect you will be unhappy with any online game you play, as they will all eventually end. Expecting otherwise is illogical. Eve: Online -- over a decade and still trucking. And on the same hardware. Whose hardware? Your hardware? I don't think that's possible, there were no PCs 10 years that would have video cards capable of handling the big graphics upgrade about 5 years ago. CCP's Hardware? Not even close. There's been massive upgrades in the Tranquility server in the past decade. Like HUGE upgrades.
