"It is the end. But the moment has been prepared for." -The last words of the 4th Doctor.
I was let in on this news from one of my corpmates just an hour ago. Truth to tell, I'd not logged on in a bit over a month, and recently had stopped listening to DUST podcasts because, well, there was really nothing to talk about relating to DUST.
In the end, I applaud CCP's decison, if not exactly how it was implemented. Perhaps it would have been better to keep the server's going until the start of the new game to keep the community in place.
The choice of PC for the game is interesting, but personally harrowing. My PC gaming is done on Mac and Linux. Will PC Dust work on those platforms? It's too early to tell, but not too early to advocate and let CCP know that the community is there. On the positive side, going to the PC may finally give us the tight integration with EVE that many of us have looked for since DUST began, and that is an exciting possibility.
I have one question for the CPM: what happens to you and it now? Have their been any thought and discussions of continuing the institution forward into the new game and the new paradigm? If not, start some! I think having the CPM institution continue onto the new game to give feedback, etc. would be brilliant.
As a lore person, DUST and the Mercs have been an important part of the EVE story line. I hope that tie in is retained in the new game. As long as its thought of, I can't think that that will be a problem. Hopefully it'll be seen as a great new opportunity!
I'd like to take this opportunity to thank the CPM(s) for everything they've done. It has not been easy, I suspect, helping with a game that many thought was running on borrowed time, and dealing with a community that believed that as well.
I'd like to thank the DUST Devs as well, especially CCP Rattati. I look forward to your new work!
And finally, I'd like to strongly advocate for the answer - perhaps done as a last DUST story - of what DUST514 actually meant!!

I voted in the CPM2 election!
Have you, yet?
