It's a shame there was so much potential. While DUST was always gonna be a lobby shooter, they could have used it to test full legion rosters etc.
I still day dream sometimes of an EvE based games where the are so many gun configurations everyone can have their own unique weapon.

I can't help but think what kind of game dust would be if that man power was put into it
You say that, but well look at world of darkness.
The problem is CCP expanded to fast for their own good. So their management is a little under prepared.
They end up borrowing too much time from other projects for EvE
