You know, the walls that other games have that prevent players from going into areas that serve no real gameplay purpose without blocking the background scenery.
I get that some people would argue that they "break immersion". But wouldn't this actually help the game a little? Currently we have HUGE maps that render hundreds of meters of terrain beyond the redline that are only "inaccessible" due to the redline mechanic. Why not remove that extra space that (as far as gameplay is concerned) serves no real purpose? Wouldn't doing so allow the maps to load the main battle structures faster since there would be less space to render and as a result improve the games overall stability/performance?
The only possible downside I can see to this is dropships heading too far in the redline and crashing into the invisible walls, but that would really depend on how deep within the redline the walls would be placed in in the first place. Thought's?
P.S. I, once again, accidentally deleted my initial draft before posting it and I'm 1000% certain that I lost a lot of words in the process (which I'm unable to recall in detail) that made things more coherent and easier to read. Curse this PS3 browser, the struggle is real.

Legacy code and all that Really? That's a shame. It very well may be one of the reasons some maps have such drastic performance issues from time to time (and by "time to time" I really mean just about always )

Why do you need an invisible wall when the redline already blocks out that area from being used? Also what purpose would that serve? Unless you want to prevent that area from rendering, in which case you still dont need an invisible wall, you'll just have an ugly map edge reminiscent of an N64 game? Why should the tremendously laggy system have to render HUGE areas that we can NEVER access? I think he's just confusing invisible walls with skyboxes Ah, I guess I got confused when he said invisible walls but meant not-invisible walls. I could be wrong, I just assumed he meant Sky Boxes since that would make sense. Still, that would also imply an invisible wall at some point. Yeah sorry about that. I just adressed it as an invisible wall because I didn't know what it was actually called and didn't know what a skybox was until I looked it up (which makes me feel pretty derp since the name is pretty self-explanatory xD). But yes, DUST Fiend is correct I didn't know the actual name for it but I was talking about a skybox. Sorry for the confusion. o/
