Good Day,
Running out of Ammo. This is a not a common problem. I understand that. So it's not high on the list of things CCP is looking to fix.
Folks have suggested a "request ammo" option. I guess it's like calling down a vehicle, you hit the right arrow button and get a list of things, one of those would be to ask for more ammo. I guess some sort of indicator would appear above your character that teammates or squadmates could see, but the other side would not. I've heard of worse ideas.
What about your primary weapon making a special sound (secondary weapons would make a slightly different but comparable sound). This sound can be heard by anyone in range, so yes both teams, that announces you are out of ammo when you hit the fire weapon trigger / button.
I would suggest, the sound, be the same for all weapons. If you make a unique sound for each weapon, that would be nice, but not everyone would be familiar with the situation/sound.
The idea is relatively simple, if someone on your own team hears the sound and has a nanohive, hopefully they will drop one. If the other team hears it, you become a target.

We have long needed things like "I need ammo" "I need repair" but I don't know if we have the resources to do so.

I think if the was an option to call for theses things, similar to the Battlfield series, it would be amazing. A "Commander" would be pretty badass too. Supply drops, orbital strikes, scans... Pure awesome!

Meh. I would like this. Maybe just make an ammo icon pop up when your gun is at 10% ammo capacity visible to anyone who's carrying a nanohive. Kinda like a nanite injector.
Ha!You can't kill me! I'm already dead!

Good Day,
I endorse the idea of, "need rep tool" or "repair", etc. If there is a way to make it only visible to folks with rep tools or rep nanohives, then fine, I don't see a problem that.
I don't know, maybe have the notification extend 40 meters, like need revive.
I'm not sure of all of the details, but this idea could work, within the current structure of the game, with seemingly, not a lot of major changes to the game. I'm not a programmer, but the idea is to use the current game options and use them in different ways / tweak them to benefit players and teams.
This could lead to other comments - "thanks", follow me to point A, B, C, etc, for those without microphones., ah well. maybe too far.

The automatic icon over your head would be best, but an arrow pointing you toward the nearest nanohive or supply depot would be nice too.

There should be squad-commands that affect the individual soldiers... call ammo would put a marker on the merc that called it just like a squad command. This could be expanded and modified.
edit: I've also started carrrying x-3 nanohives... they change the behavior of infantry when they know they can top up their weapons, they are more likely to use suppressing fire; which gives you tons of points.

Sorry but this will never occur, I cnt be optimistic for this I mean, for one you can take the example of requesting help, you go on overwatch and u see 3 needles running and no one comes to save your suit, bleeding out is crucial depending on the battle and sometimes ppl dont give a **** for tht, let alone the call for ammo one, its hard to implement, for one and plus most wont approve cause u have bunch of ppl going for the close by supply depot, and on one hand you got equipment spam matches and on the other you have full npc Corp member starter noobs that dnt know what an MMO is -___-

I'll just be really blunt here. A) There are some people commenting on this that clearly don't know the mechanics of the game they're playing that already take care of the thing they say is missing. B) If you're good enough to run out of ammo on most weapons, you're good enough to sort it out on your own. If you have a weapon that has very low ammo cap, fit your own damn nano.
A good squad will have links, scans, nanos, needles, vehicle support, all kinds of stuff. A solo slayer or someone playing a sapper role might run into this issue. But again, it's not that hard to figure out. You should know the map well enough to know where the depots are. Flip to Sidearm and go get some stuff. I've run out of ammo a dozen times this weekend. Wasn't a problem. Switch to Sidearm, head for a Depot, keep your eyes peeled for stray nanos on the way. If the SD is red, clear and hack or die trying. I'm which case Hey! Full ammo!
This really shouldn't have to have dev time devoted to it when there are so many solutions to it already.

Good Day,
First of all, I try to avoid confrontations in forums -
but not everyone runs in a squad, I'm guessing the majority of players do not run in squads. That is your first assumption. I'm so impressed that you run out of ammo so often.
Yes, I run in squads and run solo, it depends. Do I run out of ammo often, no.maybe once every two-three-four weeks. I'm happy for you that you run in a "good" squad.
It's my problem, because I don't know the maps. another bad assumption.
I never thought of switching to my sidearm, ever. How dumb can I be???? Do you ever run Logi suits? another bad assumption.

Thanks for the brag post. I'm sure you're Representative of the average Dust Player.
Have you even considered the idea that a newbie might benefit from a reminder to drop their nanohive? Or anyone might get caught up in the action and forget that they have the nanohive equipped?
Or that some players don't have Mics, but still might want to communicate to other team mates or squad mates?

It's not a brag post, it referenced specifically running solo ( I.e. NOT in a squad ), and playing sapper ( I.e. running around the fringes hacking and killing targets of opportunity and avoiding the main killbox, therefore not dying often ). Please try to understand what's being said before you go all passive aggressive on it.
The point is that people run out of ammo all the time and don't have a big issue with it like you apparently do. So the problem is your unwillingness to figure out the solution in the moment, clearly, not a problem with the game. I referenced very specific solutions, take the advice or don't. Up to you really. Good luck. o/ |

Hmm... I'd rather go different way than "request an ammo button". I mean it's quite noob-ish. Personally I preffer to pick up an enemy weapon when my ammo run out and kill him again with his own rifle and that's a lot of fun. Just use your ammo wisely. Do not shot around with panic. I know there is a lot of trigger happy guys out there but hey... If u wanna more ammo then choose a propper class. No offence I'm just sayin' what I think. cheers |

On a more serious note, a big part of what makes Dust, Dust, is that the learning curve goes far beyond grinding skill points.
Being able to ask for ammo, and make it visible to other teammates (using an small icon for nanohive wearers for example), is a good idea, as it could indeed help people out of a squad, or even in a squad, and without a mic. Communication is better than no communication.
Should it appear automatically? Definitely not. Every action in Dust should be a player decision. Making it both harder to master, and more rewarding too.
I think a focus for the dev should be to strongly encourage people to play in squad than in solo, as it is the root of the issue IMO, and is actually key to unlock the potential of the game.
Proud player of the most strategic and addictive massively-multiplayer FPS in the world.
