This game... So many issues... At first, when I started playing, I never visited the forums... I never even knew they existed... I was totally fine with the game had fun...
Then, after a one year hiatus, I visited the forums... Then, after reading posts I realized all the problems with the game... Then, after reading more posts I found out things like porting, Rouge's Wedding... Dev Silence... It didn't bother me much at the time...
Now after about a year being on the forums or half a year... Now, after all that not caring... I want to just curl up in a ball... and sit in a corner...
I've almost lost all hope and desires for the game... I feel it now has no future unless it's ported...
When 1.3 drops in 2020... I'll see if it's worth giving it another go... Until then... my Dust 514 activity... will slowly deteriorate over time...

Part of me thinks its their plan.
New players come into this game and just see the good parts, they overlook the bad cuz they think it's being worked on.
Vets know better. Vets talk ****. So, isn't it better to push away vets who know better than to spend their hard earned money on a product that will never come close to being finished, so that way new players who still think things could happen will stick around?
Plus since matchmaking is god awful it has the added benefit of helping out new players by slowly hedging out the vets.
If any of my posts seem severely negative, it's probably because they are.

I'm a pretty bitter vet but I'm actually hopeful about 1.3 simply because Rattati said a lot of players might not like it.

The fact that i've grinded this long through all the BS has kept me on dust. Looking at Eve now as I do now play that game as well, and seeing how far that game has gotten keeps me on dust. I figure, if Eve can be that good maybe dust can one day.
I've pushed this long, managed to get every Gallente dropsuit and weapon, and fought in PC for almost 2 years. I've reached the 100 mil SP club, and kept right on going.
I was around for scout514, dbl flaylock pistols, Laser rifle OP madness, modded controller scrambler rifle, murder taxi's, tank514, domination short bus, PCLOL, the blue donut, Nyain san bush, ADS 50/0, Minmando+swarms smh WTF, and now this jumpy/punchy hit detection lol.
Sadly, I have become a bitter vet. Just jaded as ever quick to rage, and not because I can't play or don't like the game. It's because my hope and expectations for the game are through the roof!
I now play more Eve than dust because atleast on Eve I know there are no mods or glitchers. Everyone in Eve seems to be able to play with integrity! Imagine that?
Still, I will log on to dust with hopes of experiencing little lag,hit detection issues, and framerate drop. I will try to justify what I see when I play "certain" players by doing all the BS procedures to get rid of lag smh?! I will play at the horrible 480P that was suggested, and reset my modem and router a million times?! I will only use my scout and assault as the rest of my suits are useless smh?! I will try to put as accurate a fire as I can on jumpy fits mid-air only to see the rounds connecting but doing F*CK ALL lol! I will continue to throw away isk, officer and experimental weapons, and my time into PC matches against players that exploit broken mechanics because CCP said they will fix it SoonTM....
The lore is the best part about both games, and i'm hoping these games can intergrate better in the future. One day what we do on the ground in dust will matter in Eve. One day when I fire rounds at a minmatar dropsuit my rounds will register a hit. One day domination will be more than MD spam and RR fire.
One day....

Well first you need to find the morph ball. Then once you got all that down, you just need the patience to use the bomb jump to reach the next level. I know it's frustrating and the devs could maybe have been more forthcoming on the timing of it all, but honestly once you see the cascade effect of your efforts and devotion, you will love it.
P.S. forums ruined this game for me too. Tinfoil paranoia and entitlement are the skills of the new vet meta.

You're on. Servers going up isn't an issue, but an update after that? Even if it's not for another 20 years it will still technically be after the end of the month. Game on. Baby needs a new pair of shoes!

There's a big difference between EvE and Dust. When EvE started it was one of its kind. The player base grew to be huge, and became a real force to be reckoned with. Dust was an offshoot, on a different platform, to explore a different player base and microtransactions. It didn't have the player base of EvE, most of whom never migrated across because they hated the concept. I was there, talking with them. Walking In Stations was going to be the first move towards the EvE/Dust interface, and they loathed it, because at that stage in the process it did nothing. It still does nothing. Neither does the War Barge Quarters, for that matter.
So the disconnect between EvE and Dust was never and will never be fixed. The EvE player base will never migrate across and the Dust player base is laughably small. Looking to EvE as a model for how far Dust can come is entertaining and inspiring but ultimately foolish. Without the EvE player base, Dust will never achieve what EvE has. It was a significant miscalculation to put Dust on PS3. As far as I can tell, most people use kbm anyway, so PC would have been the logical platform, side-by-side with EvE. Then there would not have been anything like the problems with "porting" and "interfacing". Or the idiotic PSN, with its ridiculous random sign-outs one of which I had to endure just before, which is why I'm here now.
No. EvE got as far as it has because of its huge player base. Dust won't because CCP didn't ensure that the EvE player base WAS the Dust player base. |

Just forum. As in turning forum into a verb, and doing that, instead of actually playing the game, until the game is more playable.
Its more enjoyable and less frustrating. Plus since you don't have the constant in game frustration suggesting that you are foolish to even hope, you can still have a little ember of hope that can light the tiny chamber in your heart reserved for Dust that is dark because of Dev silence.
That is until they speak again, because anytime you are that quiet for that long it can't be for anything good.

Funniest part of it is this "All three are on very different types of hardware, spanning multiple generations of architecture, and mostly held together with Minmatar duct tape, soulful Amarr prayers, the na+»ve and hopeful Gallente spirit, and low-grade mass-produced Caldari chicken wire from upgrades over the years."

I agree, but dust still has the potential to attract an entirely new playerbase! I had never heard of Eve until I played dust. I was on the range one day training with a shooting buddy of mine who is in my unit, and he told me about dust and all it's concepts, customization, and promise for better FPS days. In was a battlefield 3 player who hated COD for all it's rambo unrealistic gameplay, and wanted a better challenge with tactics and teamwork involved.
I logged onto dust, and haven't been able to put it down since!
I think the same goes for alot of the small dust community. That's why there's #PortDust514! They know the potential for advancement as players, but getting CCP to see it is the issue. The players know there is no better concept out there with such a rich history and lore as Dust/Eve.
If dust actually worked without all the glitches and framerate issues players would flock to it from all over! Most older FPS players love a challenge! That's why we're here now! Move it to PC or PS4, Eradicate the glitcher/modder crowd by making the perfected version pay-to-play like Eve, and watch as the playerbase of the FPS crowd flocks to it like moth's to a flame!
Keep it on PS3 and watch it die slowly...

You would then lose people who can't afford the fee... Economy sucks nowadays... People can barely afford a PS4... Some only play because it's F2P and is somewhat decent... You would only hurt the playerbase more than getting it back...

You would only hurt the playerbase just as much as helping it. But you would GAIN an entirely different and more committed player base, more like that of EvE, and I think that would definitely be a good move. Yeah, it would be nice... but then I would be forced to leave dust. That would definitely be a shame! But the player base of EvE manages with their (small) subscription and the cost of a second hand PS4 will probably not be too prohibitive. If, and I say IF Dust ported to PS4 or PC, and it was a significantly better product than it is right now on PS3, people will find the means to go there. The PS4 or PC, either new or used, is a one-off cost. The ongoing subscription (currently $15/month for EvE) isn't all that prohibitive. |

You'll probably be forced to leave DUST once sony cuts support anyways. So basically you want DUST to stay here for YOU, and not for DUST's sake. Am I wrong? Yes, you are. I would be forced to leave because of the fee, along with the fact I love it and will probably go back to staying in my room 24/7 and watching Yt or anime, like a no life. I want Dust to live... most of my friends have left until a port comes... like most of the playerbase did... Without dust... I would still be lonely... The community is amazing and I want to see it grow... but frankly, I don't think CCP really cares anymore... You just told me I was wrong and then proceeded to list why I'm right :D
You'll be fine, you're going to be forced to upgrade whether you like or not if you want to keep playing online games anyways. Better to prepare for the inevitable than to ignore it.
If any of my posts seem severely negative, it's probably because they are.

Yes, I am that cruel.
