....Actually, any player who figures out a devilish way to unfairly shoot us without us being able to reach her with our weaponry....IS playing this game properly. No, truly. Dust 514 is NOT meant to be played cutsie-versus-cutsie, equal person-meets-equal person in a street duel. Duels and fair fights are from CoD and other lobby shooters.
We who know have always been trying to help other players by stressing to them, "if you see an opponent with a suit-fitting equal to yours, and you decide to face her head on in a 1-v-1 gunfight...you're playing this game wrong!"
But the topic of gun installations is a tough one to fully visualize, because most players who've been playing only since late 2014 aren't aware of what Installations were meant to be.
They have a seriously high destructive purpose: called "Area Denial", a fancy term that means "quickly make a fried corpse out of anyone loopy enough to try messin' around within range of the installation, and stay unreachable/impenetrable for as long as possible until the enemy is forced to come up with a plan to deal with you".
They have seriously superior range and AI targeting, and can sniper even a single running merc before she knows who, where, wtf--?
They are weapon assets that have to be purchased---like your proto guns.
They have a seriously high cost for Capsuleers and Corps to buy, so a wise player has to be as economical as possible buying them, and planting them in the battleground.
They can be planted by a capsuleer or corp defending an area before the area gets attacked,... or can be called in on the fly during a battle, like an RDV drop.
But NONE of these things have been activated in your matches right now, except the first item. For now, to please YOU players (certainly not pleasing me, personally), CCP has filled their nozzles with nanite putty to reduce their range, glued them to the ground in deliberately obstructed spots of the map to block their shots, and fed them lots of Quafe to dumb their AI logic way down.
Don't push your luck with Redline-area installations, because they'll instantly remind you of what Installations in Dust were intended to be. Right now, they are just dormant compared to what they can really do.
And I hope sometime soon, they won't be in this dormant state any longer, and they'll be put into full service they way they were meant to be. These would be LETHAL in a full blown PC match.
Universe of good wishes for the 49, especially CCP Eterne...
