Is that because you aren't aware of the reference to the Game of Thrones Red Wedding betrayal and the obvious links between Red and Rouge. So that's where the name came from.never knew because I don't use a TV to watch TV. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZnxvUuSzbMIwatch it here.
^nooooo! It wont be as ... Impactful? Withoug context of watching all the eps before!!!
Edit: Typo noted but urgency was more important ;)

Eh, a mistake is a mistake. Short-sighted and naive was the idea to have a 10-year plan for PS3 at that time in the console's lifespan. Better to realize that mistake and redirect? Or to press on to inevitable failure?
1) I'm not condoning their handling of the decision and using the DUST keynote to present it, but it was probably the best decision to have made (to evolve DUST to LEGION, not the presentation of it), all things considered.
2) Had CCP used a different forum for that announcement, or introduced it by way of DUST, by addressing the short-term goals for PS3 DUST development, then transitioning to the idea of LEGION (even in the same keynote), the idea probably would have been an easier pill to swallow. Like, "Over the next 6 months we plan to introduce this or that, but now with hind-sight being what it is, we would like to evolve the DUST experience into something we have more experience and control in and will be around for whatever timeframe..." Idunno. Arm-chair quarterbacking is easy.
3) I wonder if they had made more of an effort to transition the idea rather than the interpreted hardline they drew, would player reactions have been so vile?
4) To suggest that the player base did not overreact I think is a bit off. I get it, and hopefully my points above make that clear, but these forums have always had a vein of revolt and spite. Everything is a DUST killer. Every change for balance triggers a rubberband reaction by half the player base b!tching. Everyone has an entitled notion that cash entry means indefinite payoffs without limit. CRU camping. Protostomping. Old Q-syncing. The attitude is in the blood here for some reason, and it is vile.
CCP handled things poorly, and has since all but closed doors to communicate. I imagine partly because of the players' reactions (overreaction?) to FF. Or they are simply too busy making stuff for the next update that everyone will most likely be offended by for one selfish reason or another of a million. But my experience has been the forums have always wanted an excuse to take to the streets with pitchforks. FF was a softball justification for the apes to sling their sh!t. And they seemed to enjoy their slinging.
Just MHO though.

I don't think that I am trying to excuse their mishandling of the keynote; rather I'm just separating the elements to take on, each for their own merit. First the decision to build what they did in context of console life expectancy and general development familiarity, next the ****-poor thought process thinking the keynote would be a great way to introduce LEGION, and finally the player base tendency to react negatively to change (biter vet syndrome forum lurker).
I believe reactions were justified, but I'm not sure the level of vitriol was. I am not grouping the family (previously linked) into that as I feel his post was heartfelt and mature. That is something above the rabble noise of the forums. Too, I'm not really speaking as an EVE pilot. Just as the devil's advocate, I guess. Personally, I think it was short-sighted to target the PS3 to begin with, but I can respect the intent. So maybe I'm giving them credit where they may not deserve it. Too, I'm just annoyed with negativity in general, so I may be biased in that direction.
I think that's a fair point to make regarding Sony's role in a lot of this. Also, it does seem a wiser choice to move to PC for reasons Maken listed. Not that I'm advocating PC master race or anything ;)
I'm off topic I guess. Sorry if I'm derailing. Just rambling. I'll shut it now.

Just curious: did CCP pull the plug on those boosters the day after FF? Did AUR depreciate, negating the purchase of consumable items? Did that proto AUR AA suddenly stop working after players paid for the boost to spec into it? Were purchased consumables no longer consumable?
Fire and brimstone coming down from the skies! Rivers and seas boiling! Forty years of darkness! Earthquakes, volcanoes! The dead rising from the grave! Human sacrifice! Dogs and cats living together! Mass hysteria!
I really just wanted an excuse to use those quotes....

I get the frustration, but to imply CCP willfully frauded the player base by pushing merc packs on the hedge that PS3 has a 10-year life expectancy (or any other reason, for that matter) is opinion, not fact. Was the whole thing jacked up? No real argument there from me. Even if manipulation was their sole intent, neither you or I know that as fact. Unless you were a PM for the original dev team or something, then I stand corrected. Still though, as bad as it played out emotionally for some, merc packs and AUR sales still provided the services advertised. And continue to do so. Regardless of how offensive FF may have been to some.
EDIT: Oh. And um.... Purple bunny fuzzy nipples. Just so we're clear on the tone and intensity of this post. RaWr. And stuff.

Maken: thanks for trying to keep things centered. That's actually where i prefer to be but i find myself slipping from time to time.
My opinion on the ps3 short-sightedness is just that: my opinion. Like i noted earlier, armchair quarterbacking is easy. I include myself in that slight. I understand the desire to reach out to a console base to expand beyond PC and i think the intent is novel and a great idea. As deezy followed up, i may agree the attempt was necessary for development expansion. It ended up a forced push out of carbon. That can only really be a positive, to try to grow even if it doesn't play out as hoped. As for the ps3, i only wish they could have waited to aim for ps4, or developed primarily on PC with an intent to port to ps4. That could have provided needed time for the learning curve. Or not. There's all kinds of reasons i can't even begin to speculate on as to the why's and why nots.
We're all just giving opinion and speculating though. So iderno.
