As Gunjack has appeared to be the Shanghai's team priority for the last couple months (if not longer), I have been curious about both it's status and actual gameplay. Unfortunately, I have been unable to find anything about it's status. I tried to register for news and updates but the submit failed. Therefore, I am now asking within the community here if anyone has tried Gunjack yet? As both Gunjack and DUST are both products of the Shanghai team, they are likely pretty intertwined even if not that apparent to DUST players.

What's a gunjack? Is that where you take someone's gun while they're holding it?

I played Gunjack at Fanfest. It was fun, but I wouldn't buy a Gear VR or a Samsung phone for it. It's not even tangentially related to DUST, except for the fact they're both set in the EVE universe. Gunjack has no notion of characters or accounts or persistence. It's just a little shooter in a box.
It's false that Gunjack is a "priority" for Shanghai. It's a mobile game, it's pretty simple, and it was a fairly small team that worked on it.

Maybe it wasn't, but when you look at the lack of progress around here, it's hard to think it didn't cut further into dev time and resources here; no matter how small the project was.

Really? Rattati was last heard from in October here on the forums. Then in early November, Rattati tweeted (https://twitter.com/ccp_rattati) about the Gunjack release which was the last tweet he's sent. If Shanghai has not been working on Gunjack, WT* have they been doing since late November (especially as 1.3 was said to be almost done in early to mid October)?

While it's possible people may have gotten borrowed for quick things here or there pending the Gunjack release... it's not a major title. It isn't a large team. It was a very cheap project that ended up being a thing.

AFAIK, Rattati has not ever worked on Gunjack at all. He's not really a "game developer" by trade, and he's entirely consumed by/concerned with DUST. I could not speak to why we have not heard from Rattati much in the last few months as I am no longer in the loop, and I do not know. I do know some things, but it does not justify to me why he hasn't had a few minutes to check the forums and let us know he is still alive. But I would be fairly confident Gunjack has nothing to do with it. He is still excited about it's release because it is a game launch coming from the studio he works at, and he surely has friends and coworkers who worked on it.

Do you have a job? Project milestones are marked as projected expectations, but within that timeline any number of alternate projects, priorities, or short-fused "distractions" may (and often do) come up. I've never seen all-or-nothing in business. Sure, there may be the occasional focus on one single project depending on contractual obligations, staffing schedules, and windows of opportunity, but even then it's understood to be a temporary push.
Hell. Even when I flipped burgers as a kid, I was never "just" on the grill. I'd be on assembly, or up front on fries, or manning register when someone was on break, or mopping, or loading the freezer when stock trucks arrived. As a student, did you only ever just take math? Or just science? No, you learned time management to multitask and juggle several tasks at the same time. Not literally at the same time, but within a given period of time.
Oh. and what Soraya said. I agree. Most things have a gradient, and are not so black or white. At least that's been my experience. For whatever that is worth, if anything.
What was the topic again? Oh. Gunjack. Never played it but looks fun.

For your information, I work in software and when something unexpected occurs that will affect customers we notify them ahead of time so they do not get pissed off or otherwise. CCP obviously is not going by that model though.

I guess that's relative then. As I said, a gradient.
Do we have a timeline from CCP? Not being a smart ass. It's an honest question. I was under the impression that that was partly the reason for the silence, so as not to mistakenly suggest a deadline or goal that might not be met? So, yeah. Were we given a deadline? Is CCP really obligated to provide that level of insight to us?
Not saying I disagree with you, just playing devil's advocate here. Silence has pretty much always been CCP's model. Also, silence does not mean he's sitting with his thumb up his ass. Nor does the release of Gunjack mean he or anyone else for that matter has stopped working DUST or whatever other projects they may be floating that we are not aware of, which is sort of what the point of my post was to begin with.

To end things in a positive light, Sony is opening up more and more about cutting PS3 support. After all, Sony only promised full support through 2015. As 2015 has ended, Sony has indeed started cutting services albeit minor ones for now; Facebook support, browser landing, PS3 console sales, etc. The cut of PS3 PSN support is eventually going to come as well. Now to that positive note... CCP has to know PS3 support is ending as well; even more detailed than those of us who merely play on the PS3. And Shanghai has had to work on something and it's not Gunjack so what do you think that could be? A port perhaps? ;D

A port perhaps? ;D Again, we will likely have to wait until Fanfest before anything is confirmed by CCP. On the flipside, if nothing is said about DUST at Fanfest this year, than I would guess DUST as it is will have no future. It's sad how much you have to go off silence with CCP but that's the way it is. when is fanfest? And CCP knows we've all spent money earned skills to they wouldn't let that go to waste. Maybe they'll make a new game entirely and offer us game credits for that game... Who knows
