The vast majority of people, myself included, will see this device as nothing more than an over bloated trinket in line with Smart Watches. At least, until mainstream games begin incorporating it heavily and reliably.

Seeing is beliving ;)
No for smartwatches and smartphones that you can't even use.
But this device... imersion 100% (ok 98% ;) and you can use it more then only for gaming. Better CCP tell us where you can buy stand alone Valkirie ;) and why I can't land at planet district to help dusters ;)
Not much time left...

Honestly I have only come to want want for the watching of 3d movies and 360 videos. VR gaming makes me sick (literally motion sick) but I have found the other applications to be quite pleasant. I even have a Galaxy S5 which instead of selling I turned into my dedicated VR phone.
I have been against VR gaming all along but my issue was that at first I only looked at it as a gaming device as oppose to the rest of the list of entertainment applications.
EDIT:
Hopefully those ****** little ear cover speakers are detachable so I can use my Turtle Beach headset with it to make a true immersive experience. If so 3d movies will be 1000x better than paying 20 bucks a pop at the theater to worth some sweat stained plastic pieces of crap and listen to some idiot 3 seats down slurp on his very obviously empty drink.

The only time I'd ever use of them fancy vr headsets is when I'm playing fps games. Just to be a bit more terrified when a lav runs me over.

It looks like the DK2 is already taking a steep price drop thanks to people wanting to buy the retail version.
I feel like the DK2 will probably be my new movie theater but lets see how the price compares to the retail version once everything is announced.
I would rather pay $100 less than get Valkyrie with my headset and considering I am not in it for gaming I think this may be the perfect play.
Anyone got a DK2 they want to dump cheap to fund their retail purchase?

I will ******* overdose on dramamine before I let my frail human body get in the way of playing in VR
But yeah, the other uses for it are often overlooked
Upcoming VR completely destroyed my interest in getting multiple monitors, for instance Why would I waste a few hundred bucks on a multi-monitor setup with cheap ****** monitors on an expensive mounting system when I can surround myself with an arbitrary number of virtual monitors with contrast and color that would have been astronomically out of my price range?
Why buy a crappy "3D" tv when we can load up the virtual theater and watch headache-free 3D?

I'm pretty sure they're still detachable, but you may want to try them first:
Quote:I am not really an audiophile by any definition but I was surprised by the built in cans. They go loud and if you think you will be able to hear your friends laughing at you think again, when 'off' you can hear everything but when on and in a demo they seem to block out sound. I don't know what sort of whichcraft was invoked to make that happen but it works very well. The sound quality is far better than expected and they cover a good range. They put my Corsair overhear gaming headset to shame. You will most likely not need to (or be able to afford) a better set of cans that cover such a large range, Voices really come out naturally which is something many speakers or cans don't do well.
Also it has a built in microphone |

It is not their volume I am worried about.
I would just rather have the noise cancellation and full virtual surround sound provided by my Turtle Beach headset hooked up to my PC's optical output. I can guarantee that the Turtle Beach equalizer as well as depth of bass are enough to win before you even add in the virtual surround sound.
I get that they wanted to make a nice convenient 1 piece headset to keep everything simple and I am sure many people will love the sound that they produce but I can see the add ons to swap those for hitting the shelves already.

Yea they can shove their headset where the sun don't shine.
This guy will be waiting for them to hit ebay for $400 and say screw the free copy of Valkyrie as I do not want to deal with another CCP title anyway.

According to the spec sheet, this one gives you a "hand around".

I'm going to have to pay $1123 Australia ($650USD for headset + $131USD shipping) But It's not overpriced at all for what you're getting and considering it is the bleeding edge of VR and the first consumer VR headset to released then this price is justifiable. Ignoring the fact that they need to make their money back as well as pave the way for other VR projects youre getting in the headset itself;
- Two very high quality AMOLED displays which were engineered specifically for VR - The headset itself (which is far more ergonomic and comfortable than any of the dozens of other VR headsets I have tried - The on-ear headphones are audiophile grade - You get a DAC (Digital to Analogue Converter) for clearer crisper original sound - An amp (boosts your audio signals) - A quality controller (Xbox One) - A quality carry case - And two flagship games created for the Oculus.
Now my fuss is that there is no other bundles, I don't need a carry case and neither will most people because It needs to be plugged into a pretty powerful computer which you won't be moving around, I already have several Xbox one controllers, I don't really care about EVE Valkyrie (sorry CCP kek), I already have my own high quality DAC and amp and many audiophile grade headphones. Take all that away and the headset itself is probably somewhere between $250-$350USD which is what we all had expected and what they had told us. I was going to order eight of these bloody headsets but now we can only get three.
