@ Devis
You have a long road ahead.
This game has RPG elements, that though fun, have created a massive chasm between new players and veterans.
First off, SP is quite a grind, and confers quite an advantage. Even wearing the same gear, a vet likely has a lower profile, more armor, and more shields.
Higher tier suits have higher fitting space, which allows for higher tier modules, which means more HP and more DPS.
THEN you have the warbarge benefits, which take time to develop. This not only gives free experimental weapons, but also applies extra weapon damage.
So you can be of equal skill as a vet, and even have a skill advantage, and get completely owned.
There is supposed to be matchmaking in place to put newer players together, but the player numbers are too low for this to be effective.
I do agree that Dust has many unique characteristics that other shooters don't, and in that it has some value. If anything, I hope that you will be better prepared for the port that we hope is on the way.
Now that you know what you are getting yourself into, a few suggestions:
Get involved with a corp. Preferably one in the Learning Coalition. Dust University is always a great corp for new players to join.
Focus on Core Skills first. Skills like Armor, Shields, and Dampening will apply to all suits no matter which you choose to use, whether it be Starter, BPO, or Officer.
WP will be tougher to come by off the bat. Supporting activities will help at the beginning, placing uplinks, hives, or repairing a heavy. Just don't spend too much SP, and use the Militia versions to get an idea of what works best for your style first. As for kills, you probably won't get very many, but I highly suggest using REs. Even at standard levels, they are deadly, and fun to set traps with. Just be aware they are used in the EQ slot along with the Uplinks, Hives, Repairers etc.
When possible, stick with a squad, even if you aren't technically in it. You will be more effective with others around you, and less of a target yourself.
There are plenty of good videos on Youtube for strategy and everything, just take them with a grain of salt, as a few of the uploaders are dilusional.
Lastly, never, ever ever ever ever ever, join Duna's corp. Ever.

Any double entendre is unintended I assure you.
