Info) I have been playing off and on passively for years. I live in Japan. I don't speak Spanish but thats usually what matchmaking pairs me with, so I play alone as 'that blueberry.' I can't spend/play much due to being married, and my time schedule is like 8am-9am Tokyo time...sometimes. Basically when the wife isn't here.
I have 26m SP, and its stacked in caldari commando, sniper, rail rifle, and core stuff like engineering and shield mods. I have a headset, but I can't get it to work on PS3. I use a mouse and dualshock.
Map awareness: Normal (played LoL) Gun game: super fail, especially when close up, can't move with the target fast enough. Long range gun game: OK. Good aim with sniper rifles, FG, pretty good at estimating tragectory and leading shots.
1) Matchmaking. I always get paired with spanish people. I play in an odd time zone. This also leads me to be unable to find pub matches (which I can actually win and get daily rewards in.) Scotty just times out when I play. I can find FW matches but the quality of player is vastly different, i'm usually outmatched and/or teamkilled repeatedly by dweebs with free time. Terrible record at FW but I'm trying to get APEX so just being the little engine that could. Really could use tips on how to work the matchmaking queue and know when I can get in a pub. the timer says 18 secs but its always in reality 10+ mins
2) Squadding. I've tried. I have issues with not figuring out how to get the headset to work (works on my PC) and also squadding with English or Japanese speakers and not Spanish. Also time to find a squad and start a match because, at most, I've got like an hour to play usually per day.
3) Gun game. Not sure how anyone can help me not suck here. Getting a mouse helped a lot. Maybe recommended sensitivity settings? Can make sense of that anyhow. Also using Rail Rifle even with skills at 5 the kick is rough to deal with and accurately hit a target moving. Assault rifle with 0 skill I usually hit better with (at range,) though its not my spec. Close I get reamed unless I'm in a heavy suit or shotgun. And even then I get embarassed 50/50.
4) Suits and stuff. I think they are ok? I run calamando a lot. Sometimes Tactical SR/RR, sometimes RR/Swarm. All suits have nice shields but I tend to stay low tech because i'm poor and trying to save ISK for baby's first APEX. Maybe some times on which APEX to aim for, but for now i'm going for Samurai cuz thats where the SP is.
5) Gimmick builds: not a fan because they get nerfed. I tried jumpy suit and got a few easy kills but I don't really have a good feel for jumping with my controller X and using my mouse..and using controller only puts me back a few levels of suck in gun game, which is already terrible. I kinda just want to improve my base game then work on the gimmick crap later.
6) Corp. I never tried. Probably wont due to my schedule, location, poor skill, and I REALLY like my 1-man corp to store up CP I'll never use. But I heard something about social groups. No idea but maybe interesting?
Thanks and sorry for the long post.
Well, your experience sounds very like mine. I don't have 26m SP, but other than that it's very similar.
I will leave others to talk about most of your issues, but the RR I can definitely help with. It kicks like a mule. You need to aim using the sights (ADS) to stabilise it. You should only use hip fire for close range - anything distant, use the sights.
Better yet, don't use the RR at all, unless you have something like a magsec SMG for close range. That's what I do. The magsec is like a mini ARR. If you really want to use your primary weapon for hip fire, use an ARR. You can still aim using the iron sights and it works really quite well, much to the consternation of the target - most of the time they just stand there wondering where the firing is coming from. Even better with an RR using sights. :)
I ground CFW for months to get a State 'Hawk' Scout, State 'Rasetsu' Assault and State 'Samurai' Commando, in that order, plus the light and medium State Peacekeeper Marine Issue skins. That works out as 50k LP and 50mill ISK, but it's worth the effort.
Except maybe for the Samurai. I haven't really figured out how to use a Commando yet. I run the Hawk most of the time and the Rasetsu on occasion to support the rest of the team.
Don't use anything but an RR, ARR or SR with your Caldari Assault suits - there are bonuses that apply to those rifles with those suits. Also, the RR, ARR and SR has bonuses on the Caldari Commando suits. Always work with the bonuses. If you're going to use an AR, use a Gallente Assault suit.
I have virtuatlly the same issues with the servers, the Spanish players in our timezone - I'm in Australia (UTC+10) and usually play in the mornings, and can only find activity on the American server most of the time. The Asian server is mostly inactive at this time, so we would have the same issues. |

I'll take a look at the videos today and try some sensitivity tweaks. Any recommended #s? Guide says 100 so i'll try that, maybe itll be ok with the mouse, since I can only use it when I want to make a snipe shot.
Also is there anything I can do about matchmaking? The whole not being able to join pub thing is a real downer, as well as the long queue for FW. Should I try changing my server from automatic to US or something? probably stupid lag though.... I played FF14 with my US buddies but had to use some IP routing because of that long transit time. Sensitivity -
100 is good but only after you're used to it. If you're going to put it to 100, do it in stages. Stay on whatever you're on until it feels too slow, then increase it one step at a time.
Also, my ADS settings are a lot lower because that makes ADS more stable for accuracy, particularly on the SR. |

Yes, I'm in the Asian TZ. I have to set my server to America to get any matches.
I also get phenomenal lag due to being in Australia and therefore too far away from everywhere, and that makes the game play rather interesting at times, but it's still playable. |
