Gonna be idiot proofed? And to a degree? Jumper proofed?
Seems like cawadooty does it.and so do a lot of other games.
The mass driver,in dust is just a grenade launcher in reality. And many games have a simple idiot proof solution so you don't blow yourself up. Introduce a distance traveled before detonation feature.
Which is what our mass drivers should do. Just imagine how fast jumpy mass drivers would be tweaked to be a more skillfully tactic.
6 meters travel distance. Or if not a travel distance a time spent fired before grenade is able to detonate.
Just a minor tweak to the mass driver is all it would take to effectively slow down jumpy mass driver spam.
Either minimum 6m travel distance then the round becomes explsosive.
Or 0.15seconds that the round must travel before becoming live.(just a little over the amount of time a full jump then fire so that you have a small window to fire at the ground,effectively limiting the 'bullshit' factor as Ive heard it called.
I mean this is just a theory. Or maybe I'm just tired. Or maybe I'm a tired mad scientist.

You would eliminate any risk they now have in splash damage to themselves. This would make it easier on them, not harder.

From a lore perspective, the safeties one would normally use for regular troops (who can't reincarnate in a new clone within seconds) aren't necessary. Suiciding to kill an enemy would be a perfectly acceptable battle tactic, and bluntly rigging weapons so you cannot maximize your damage even when you (or your allies) are in danger is an efficiency waste. Cloned soldiers are engineered to be efficient, and expendable.
The considerations for any such "safety" have been largely cut away and removed from the weapons.
Also the ranges people operate in this game that could easily relegate mass drivers to the sh*tcan, when a shotgunner at point blank cannot be defended against reasonably with a main weapon.
A more reasonable solution would be to make jumps fast. If your forward momentum is faster than your upward momentum, then you're not likely to be able to play bombardier with a mass driver. At best you'll have an opportunity for one shot. Not the mass driver carpet bomber people have hard times killing.
WoW has taught me that Purple means Legendary. This means Quafe suits are the optimal loadout for killing all of you.

I exclusively only use Mass Drivers, and I consider myself VERY skilled with them. It's the only weapon I've ever played for 3 years straight, dual wield.
Occasionally I blow myself up with them- and I think that's MORE THAN FAIR, as in public battles, they do 0 damage to my team, and that's much more important.
C'mon buddy, there needs to be drawback, or else who would use a shotgun? It's fine just as is.
I really like that it's difficult to use- it weeds out players like you. Not everyone's meant to be a stud with it.
What I would like to see is,
REMOTE DETONATED MASS DRIVERS- The round doesn't explode until you press the fire button a second time.
PROS: Can cause mass driver splash damage without requiring projectile impact.
CONS: No damage is done at all unless the trigger is pressed a second time after the grenade has been launched. Direct hits are just duds, causing no to very little damage, like 30pts or less.
That would really encourage precise timing and interesting aiming, basically adding a new dynamic to an old weapon without making it op.
Thoughts?
Is that all you brought? How disappointing. I was hoping for a challenge.

Leave the MD allone, it's in a good place, and has enough drawbacks. I'd rather kill myself in the splash damage, then having no weapon to defend myself when the enemy get's close (running a logi).
Also everybody whining about the myos, is pathetic, the much bigger problem is stacked kinetics, since that is breaking hit detection big time, and nooobody seems to complain... you are just so butch with your fast suits are ya? |

I didn't mean modifying the existing MD- I love it exactly as is. I was suggesting adding an additional variant.
Is that all you brought? How disappointing. I was hoping for a challenge.

My post was meant towards the OP...
If any variant or alteration is made to the MD, it should be an AV variant, that puts out more direct dps than the standard one. This should be the breach (logical choice) which either needs to do a lot more damage to vehicles, or needs it's firerate increased (to the level of the standard md's). Right now, the direct hit dps of the breach is roughly the same as the standard, with less splash damage... so it's actually redundant!
A new version with more complicated detonator is something that will not be put in the game, since it's something that can not be done with the current resources the dev's have right now afaik...
I would prefer, to introduce a MD with flux shells which would help to weaken shield tanks... |

MD's are not that easy to use in a one v one situation. Myos help a lot admittedly, but they also get you killed if your opponent knows what he's doing. There is a reason, why everybody is using aim assist weapons in this game (all rifles and pistols) and that's the time to kill. A massdriver takes more time to kill somebody. But it's very powerful towards groups that are close together.
The only MD that makes kills easy (as long as you have some distance is the Agimus.
A basic massdriver will most of the time loose to any basic rifle!

Are you guys using RR or ARR by any chance, my impression is, that most whining is coming from people who can't shoot those guys while jumping because of the lousy hipfire accuracy of those weapons. They usually die quite easily if you use a weapon with decent hipfire accuracy...
I won't say jumpers are not a problem, but generally they are a much smaller nuisance than shotty scouts, speedtanked assaults and other scrub tactics in this game! |

Did an old post about mobility vs brick tanking (pre myo buff) that a lot of people liked, should remake it to include myos. About speed suits, (strickly scout speaking)

The blueberries are everywhere. Was playing planetside 2 the other day and we were taking some giant base,massive battle. 100 players on each side. And some idiot manages to miss his rocket and plow it directly into my max units exhaust port. This is what I get for running the tank of the group instead of engineer because I was playing vanu that day and im a avid mechanic for the vanu. But we didn't have enough heavy guns because apparently everyone was a engineer or a medic or a infiltrator with a sniper rifle ffs.

What other weapon can you kill yourself with? What's the rate of fire on your weapon of choice? How's that scope working out for you?

Stacked kincats can be an issue and stacked myos definitely ARE an issue as well.
Thing is, you can't shoot while sprinting and glitching your hitbox. Myo jumpers can and it also breaks hit detection.
Moreover, mass drivers create tons of suppression on their target, which blind them. That makes the jumper almost impossible to see and to shoot.
Why do you think they are way more players spaming jumpy MD fits than fast kincat fits ?

Most of the time I'm able to tank a few MD rounds in order to kill anyone that tries to get close with less hp than I have, and MDs are great anti-scout weapons.

I agree with the myo abuse. I only ever use the mass driver. It's my ONLY weapon exclusively for 3 years now. I NEVER use jumpies. That's just cheap.
