I guess I would be happy even if it's on android...the platform means nothing at this point, even for me, always pushing for a PS4 port.
I mean... we need a port, the platform is a secondary problem imo

Judging by CCP Rouge's desire to have a New Eden FPS on PC, I would say that if a port were to happen it would at least be on PC. The question is really whether or not it will also be for PS4. Several other F2P games pull off multi-platform communities by separating the platforms into their own "shards".
Some players have pointed out how this would remove one of the things that made DUST 514 special compared to other MMOFPS games: a single shard game connected to Eve Online via PC and FW. They aren't completely wrong, but if the options are:
1.) Keep Dust unique, but lose the console players or 2.) Allow the Eve link to weaken, but include the console players who helped build this game
I will choose 2 every time.
If Valkyrie and Gunjack taught us anything it's that CCP is no longer afraid of creating games that exist in the New Eden universe but do not directly effect Eve Online. I think they plan on making the Eve link a tertiary "nice to have" feature now. Their goal would instead be to have a large playerbase to enjoy their game; a PC/PS4 port would accomplish that.

I think they plan on making the Eve link a tertiary "nice to have" feature now. Their goal would instead be to have a large playerbase to enjoy their game; a PC/PS4 port would accomplish that. The issue is that it's not a matter of weakening the EVE link.
The game depends fully on everyone in it interacting with everyone else with no borders or barriers.
As an example, what happens if you've been steadily expanding your low-sec empire on PS4, but the next constellation is inhabited by PC players that you can't fight? Suddenly your advance is halted by an arbitrary game mechanic.
I'm pretty sure players on both sides would find that frustrating and demoralizing.
There ARE ways to make a multi-platform FPS work for both groups of players, but I'm somewhat leery of how said groups would respond to their implementation. As an example, if Dust 514 on PC had rotation restrictions based on suit the same as the console version does, it would do a lot to level the playing field. The only issue would be that most PC players who play shooters haven't ever experienced a shooter that doesn't allow raw mouse input, and a large fraction of them would be instantly put off.
Also, I will reiterate my belief that with what I have stated above being the case, that the game should stay on PSN in order to support the current community instead of trying to ditch it in the hopes of building another one.

You are making the assumption that current PC mechanics would follow us to a port. For all we know the PC system would be scrapped due to the reasons you mentioned.

If you remove that entirely, you'd take with it one of the motivations for playing the game in the first place.
If you rebuild a new system, how do you account for the player split?

Warthunder has shared gameplay, and it's working fine imo (still, I haven't tried the ps4 version). If the game is well balanced not only within its platform, but also towards other platforms, I can't see any problem.
Be aware, I'm not saying it's going to be easy, especially if we're talking about an fps: thee should be an extra eye on cheating and a slightly different definition of what is considered "cheating" that would probably upset many in the PC community but I believe it can be done.
There are many variables at this point, it's almost useless even to talk about this: if it's going to be a "lobby shooter" like Dust, PC/PS4 cross gaming is going to be a pain for console users, but this problem would somehow be less important if it's going to be an open world-ish game. Just to name one of the many issues that comes in my mind.
Or the other way around, if Aim Assist is too strong for console users, it's going to break the experience for PC players.

I personally would at least try to merge the two communities, at least for a beta/alpha stage. For the simple reason that this way the game itself would acquire value towards any other game on the market.

Honestly, I haven't played in over a year. Back when they didn't have anything "planned" for release in the near future, I traded in my PS3, bought a PS4 and figured I would have to wait for Legion. Then they released a new update with more content and I was angry.
If they do port it to PS4, this will make my day. I miss the game, but I can't rationalize purchasing a PS3 again, just for Dust.... If I come across a really good deal for a PS3 however, I will pick it up . Got Fallout 4 not to long ago, so for now my focus is shifted....heh |

Look, the truth is I WANT multi-platform Dust. I've always wanted the game on both platforms.
I've never tried to support that, though, because of how deep this stupid PC vs Console conflict goes. I mean, we here manage to discuss it fairly reasonably most of the time, but it's not hard to find other places on the internet where people really go at each other.
Issues of control discrepancies can be addressed, but I don't know what can possibly be done about the fact that a formidable chunk of gamers would dismiss Dust 514 without even trying it if they saw that both sides of the "platform war" were able to play it.
I agree with what Ripley told me on Skype, that Dust has a pretty crazy way of bringing people together. I'm just not sure if that would be enough to get people to try it instead of sticking to their guns on the stupid "war".

PC Dust/Legion gets one section, PS4 gets another, and XBOX One gets one (assuming they get it too).
It creates a new dynamic. Larger corps will need to foster relationships with console gamers *GASP*, whether that be recruiting people to be part of their corp, or to create alliances with console only corps, while some smaller corps could feasibly have smaller footprints in certain areas particular to their system.
Sometimes constraints do more than limit, sometimes they force creativity and complexities you couldn't get in a wide open world, in just the same way fittings would be (and in some cases are) more boring if you can fit anything you want. It is the constraint that makes things interesting.

So, if my Eve organization wants to attack from one region to another, I have to develop an entirely different relationship, with an entirely different system, just to attack across a region border?
Either that, or my ground forces have to have a PS4, PC, and and Xbox so that we can fight together anywhere in New Eden?

Fun little known fact....
Dust wasn't ported for PS4 originally because Planetside2 devs made a deal with Sony to have their game be the featured F2P shooter.
Now that Sony has washed their hands of Planetside2 (meaning they botched the contract) they are open market for a new F2P shooter.... The possibilities are endless.

You would be both surprised and disappointed. I can't even list the number of people I've met who believe so hard in PC MASTER RACE that they actively celebrate games not releasing on console because it adds to their sense of superiority.
I've also talked to many people who currently play Dust who don't want it polluted by "******* PC gamers".
I know that with enough time and enough people enjoying themselves in the game and telling their friends about it, Dust could grow to have the kind of enormous population CCP wanted if it went multi-platform. However, I worry as to whether it would get that time in a market where new titles are always coming out and major franchises still hold a lot of player loyalty.
