ANON Cerberus wrote:Its a vicious circle. I believe CCP has basically gave up on DUST because the game is too small and does not attract enough attention, however the reason not more people play it is because of the terrible release it had as well as suffering with many basic bugs, control issues and huge performance issues.
If CCP had released a more fixed and proper game, more people would have played there by increasing its overall rating and generating CCP more money.
Truly a vicious circle. I wish there was more coming for DUST or a port of DUST but it appears the top brass at CCP are off on a new venture with VR now. Yes, I believe you are correct. :) |

Glad CCP is dumping time and effort into an unexplored game market - VR Headsets. So even if every single person who gets a headset buys their games, its still going to be a smaller playerbase than EVE or an FPS.
Glad they are doing innovative things, but they already have innovative projects they don't keep up with.

I like games, aaand I have money.
But the buy in for Samsung and others is far too high for what is currently a novelty at best. Rigs will need to be in the 2-300$ range before I even bother.
(Although I already diy myself a Google cardboard and am having a blast with it. All in: 8$ for two 40mm lenses... All the media so far works great with my 200$ zte phone that I've had a year already)((and got for 125$ on special xD))

Well, if they are laser focused on Valkyrie like they were laser focused on Dust...
Yeah, I cant wait to hear the bad reviews for Valkyrie. With CCP, I have learned to expect the worst and be surprised by the best rather than the other way around.

It's pretty telling how things are going on in EA when they are losing people to the likes of CCP.
EA did laugh at CCP's idea of Eve Online after all.

EA isn't exactly known for treating their employees with respect. Come crunch time, you can expect your bosses to violate all kinds of labor laws off the books. CCP I hear has the opposite problem -- its generally super lax to the point stuff just doesn't get done in a highly productive manner in some cases.
But if I was coming from EA, I would probably be enticed by the CCP environment.
Either way, Konami is worst :)
This is a positive and endearing message brought to you by Himi.

Nice to see CCP making moves.
LOL @ the relationship they have built with customers. Both Eve and Dust have some of the most strained relationships with the general player base that I have ever seen.
Sadly I am less and less inclined to believe that CCP's future includes anything Dust related. I am happy that Dust was able to be CCP's gateway to Sony which ultimately lead to Valkyrie coming to Morpheus but it would seem that that will be the only positive achievement that Dust can be credited with.

"As we embark on this new chapter in CCP's story, it's really important to us to further build on the fantastic relationship we've built with our customers," said P+¬tursson.
CCP is currently working towards the release of VR title EVE: Valkyrie for the Oculus Rift and PlayStation VR headsets. The company is also working on EVE Online: Citadel, the next expansion to EVE Online, set for release in the first quarter of 2016.

Still think that total and complete meshing of the four games won't be possible with the way eve is currently structured. It would make much more sense to make the three other games into their own immersive universe and then develop those games as a standalone (albeit in the same universe and lore). Gunjack would be combat focused ship piloting. Valkyrie is space combat to ground combat pilot shooter. Dust remains on the ground and then goes to space. Finally, when all the ducks are in a row, start towards the gradual marriage of all three games into one beautiful baby.

Nothing is planned to be connected. Dust taught CCP that lesson well.
Even with Legion they said that connecting games would not be worked on at the start if ever.

Even with Legion they said that connecting games would not be worked on at the start if ever. The PROBLEM with Dust is that it's not connected. They never tried to connect it even though it was initially planned to be, and that's where it falls down. Oh, there are no doubt people who wouldn't like a more cerebral, integrated Dust/EvE experience, but if they had actually made the effort to connect the two they would have seen the benefits by now. Dust would have already moved to Space, with combat on stations, as well as Walking in Stations, which was abandoned because the shortsighted idiots in EvE didn't want CCP putting any effort into something that didn't make flying spaceships better.... |

Dust is VERY lightly connected. I do mean the absolute minimum of connection.
It was never connected more because of a severe lack of foresight from the start. CCP had a dream but did not properly plan things out for whatever reason. Leaving Carbon behind also caused some issues with connection but nothing that made it impossible.
PC was made an incredible ISK faucet which would have seriously disrupted the Eve economy.
The micro transactions implemented 100% cancel out the possibility of a player driven market. Supply can not drop below demand cause price fluctuations when there is an alternate market that has nothing to do with anything in game.
Payouts were a quick patch that is unbalanced and ultimately easily farmable.
Dust has zero ISK sinks meaning it would be a constant pumping of ISK into players wallets which would also have a negative effect on Eve.
Basically CCP had a responsibility first and foremost to not cause a collapse in Eve which is their bread and butter that ultimately pays for new projects and fills gaps when necessary.
EDIT:
Many players in Eve seriously supported Dust through closed beta and did not turn sour on Dust until they saw the failure which it was. Who can blame them for turning sour on it after they went out and bought PS3s, many of those players multiple PS3s thanks to Carbon melting them down, only to see the game be horribly mismanaged.
