I've been aware of it for about 6 months now. Slowly my skill has been declining. I was at my absolute best when I did the Minja marathon. But it's not just with the Minja. My skill with all suits has been declining.
Have you also noticed that you've started getting worse? How long were you playing the game for before you stopped improving and started getting worse? For me, it was about 1 year.

I found that I was always at my best when I was doing what I loved and that since those days have passed I'm only getting slowly less capable.
For me it was Pre-1.7 Game-ruining HAV changes, Amarr FW with PCLAS and PIE Ground Control, and the brief moment of time I was rocking 'Blarpy' Shield HAV and having 30-40/0 games after I came back for a bit after Warthunder Ground Forces.

I wouldn't say that I got worse....
I just started refusing to adapt to the changing game mechanics.
Wore Gal assault before current buff vs the viziam on modded controlled minmatar assault suits.
I am however far more inconsistent and less willing to give a damn in match. That started 9 months ago.

youre not alone brother.
my performance has severely decreased in many ways.
once, after getting out of what was called a noob, all i ran was amarr logi w/combat rifle and smg. i miss those days. it would be rare to see proto. i could easy get 1k wp which was a lot for a "fresh out the noob boat" player. id usually get a 2 digit kill, one digit death.
next, 1.6-8. good old scout times. was my second best era in dust, thats when i started to see you in battles and you knifed. Knifing was popular and i skilled them. did well, cloak was introduced, started getting 1.5k wp or above every match, 300k payouts. then came greatest day for me. i skilled proto gallente assault. at this point, i would drop 40 bombs on a consecutive basis. matches where still fun, enemy never left battles, surprisingly, they werent as lopsides as they are now either.
THEN....came the new matchmaking.... ok, i can wreck, no biggy........ except why are there now 10 proto stompers and just me on my team??? ok, still did decent, kills dropped from 40 to 30ish per match, deaths went up, when i would usually go 3-8 deaths, now i could go 8-12. rants on forums began, peopel started to quit, playerbase worsened, now i can go 20/10 per match.
THEN CAME BY MOST DAMAGING BLOW, mom gave my tv away.
now im stuck with super input laggy tv that has about a half second delay.dust is unplayable, i switch to composite to reduce. pk, i can manage it now. i skilledd proto galmando. went up again to 30/10 matches. not bad, got my respec, stil kept it at that.
in the last 2-3 months is where i have seen my greatest fall, and that was in deaths. i could no longer get intro kills. i would always die at the start. over time, my wallet also showed my performance decrease. from a steady 30m isk down to 556 isk, wallet went down the drain
and now im here, going 5/8 most matches now. every now and then ill get a 18/10, but i will never be the player i was . i have to borrow isk from corp wallet (that i wont pay). i have stopped running proto, only basic gear now. cant afford proto
i feel like this is your story too.

You can't believe how much time passes and stuff changes that when you realize pretty good now, it stops making sense and you lose your skill for a while.

LOL!! All the posts here are very funny. Thanks for the reading.
I have experienced this too, since the onset of "The Matchmaker System". The devs did not (and will not, so good for them) explain WHICH and HOW profile and skills are measured to "match" you into a battle. But they DID say one thing: that some of you will skid-back into a player-tier that is actually LOWER than your skill level AT FIRST, and as time progresses, you'll be notched up gradually into the tiers that contain more of the enemy players more equal in your player-potential.
I think this explains why a few months ago, I was claiming the top-slot in the match-Leaderboard with no problem, and now, several months later find myself among players who easily surpass me in WPs and are now more tactically challenging than those I played against earlier.
...and who said Scotty wasn't earning his pay? I owe you a beer, Scotty. Er-- I mean QUAFE... I owe you a Quafe. meant to say Quafe, really! No, really!.
Universe of good wishes for the 49, especially CCP Eterne...

Enjoy it while you can. It'll start to decrease. Pull start getting 3-10th place. Try your best every match. Figjt back or you'll end like me, poor, asset less, and loss of skills.

inb4 we always knew you enjoyed sucking I found I sucked until I stopped trying to do what everyone else does. I started scouting instead, mainly hacking, not really killing except for the occasional surprise at an installation or objective, where I got a sneaky kill in. Then I started trying to do standard CQC again, and actually got better for a while, but came to the realisation, there are simply times when going scouting or sniping is the logical solution to an impossible situation and I started scouting again.
These days, that's what I mainly do. I only go CQC when I get bored with it and sniping when there's a sniper about (I hate snipers who snipe me). I will go after them with a passion, either as a scout or countersniping, depending on the situation.
Lately, though, I've noticed that there are those who go after me as soon as they know I'm around, so I guess I've become notorious. Not that I mind, my scores are getting better now, even in matches were we lose. I'm still usually in the top half of the killboard, and some matches I'm actually near the top. The only time I go backwards is when I try CQC again, and forget I'm in a scout suit. :) |

I am having the exact opposite experience. I am becoming substantially better and I think it has to do with how I play the game.
1. I am an incredibly analytical person in all aspects of my life. Anytime I come across a challenge in this game I will repeatedly engage that challenge over and over again until I have gathered enough information to strategize against it. Even in situations that are not a challenge I will continuously work to improve or develop new strategies for that particular situation. Once I find effective strategies I will still continue to improve on those strategies.
2. Acquisition is my favorite gamemode and it is currently rampant with Proto/Officer Gear. Even with all the high-tiered gear running around I still make sure to use modified 'APEX' Suits with 'Quafe' Weaponry. By doing this I am forcing myself to become better simply so that I can stand a chance against the Proto Stompers.
3. I never allowed myself to become dependent on a squad for my success. I have been playing this game for a little over a year and a half now and I am just shy of having 90 million SP. The entire first year I played this game I never bothered to join a squad nor was I in a Corporation that actually had members who played this game. I simply learned to read the flow of battle and I learned to adapt to the changing conditions of battle.
4. I had so much more to type but then a bunch of people at work started to approach me with problems that I have helped them solve a dozen times before and as a result of them frustrating me I have lost my train of thought. |

joined during uprising 1.5. Got stomped for a few games, so i quit. Came back 6 months later to find i had 16 mil SP unallocated and me being a noob i had no idea what SP was good for, so i dumped it all into assault rifles and something else that i can't remember even though at the time the combat rifle was FoTM next to Scr. i had about 4 mil left so i skilled into shields because i thought that would increase my shield stat....i had so much to learn. Watched a few online videos, got the hang of making a drop suit but i had no idea how to change the modules on them so i spent a solid week running around with a cal medium frame and a duvolle tac AR getting rekt. Finally figured out how to put modules on, so i stacked shields and basic ferro plates.
Then it hit me, SP is used for unlocking suits! So i had about 400k SP at the time and wanted to unlock the cal medium frame ck.0 as i thought it would be beast. Ran around with a medium frame ck.0 & duvolle tac AR trying to go positive... remember saying "Just get a kill and die, thats it." every match. After that came my dreaded weeks as a stealth min logi (i had it to ADV). I watched moody's videos and saw knives and thought "Damn, thats awesome!" I unlock the basic cloak, put it on a min logi with a shitload of PG/CPU upgrades in the lows and militia code breakers in the highs to replicate the min scout, with just knives in my weapon slot. I sucked. Still to this day i have no idea how i played with that suit and didn't rage quit. It must have been a miracle.
Then came the million clone event. Got 4 mil SP for that (or was it 3?) and unlocked the pro to cal scout (HUZA!). Little did i know this thing was a slaying machine at the time, and i had about 23 mil SP so my cores were fairly maxed. I stuck a duvolle AR and knives on this suit and rekt kids (or what i thought). In PC the suit was inefficient though as the amount of gal scout shotgunners was insane. I was in GAM and Her Nibs advised me to fit dampeners and a shotgun on my suit because i was sick of being scanned 24/7. I only had advanced dampeners on so i stacked 2 of them on but REFUSEd to go anywhere near a shotgun; i just hated them. I thought they were no-skill weapons that were to easy to use. My first time i got 'SCAN ATTEMPT PREVENTED' i felt so beast. I was a happy chap even though i was below-average.
So after my adventures in CGAM PC'ing with that suit i came across Molon Labe on the rings map. Thye had fielded some FA and had us 3-capped the entire time (i still remember this). I thought 'Wow these guys know their sh*t" even though there were much better teams out there. So i left GAM after grinding a 1KD and sent an app into Molon Labe not thinking i would get accepted, but i did! For a solid month and a half i just smashed out PC with them, gaining basic skills and what not. It was hard but fun. I had mac damps so i stayed under the radar the entire time, just knifing in a cal scout. I said it was the only protosuit i had at the time because i didn't want to logi lol. I was an average player at this time.
BOOM 1.8 hit, respecs came. I had about 33 mil SP and had left Molon Labe for a corp called Rogue Instincts. Small corp but they were tight-knit and fun to play with. No PC but i didn't care i had all the ISK i needed (or so i thought). I got my respect and straight up skilled into min scout and assault. Most fun i have ever had in those suits. My knifing scores increased dramatically and i was getting 30 kill games every day in this suit. Now i was happy and didn't want to grind out any more suits, so i just stayed with min scout/assault. Played with that suit, got insane SP because the weekly increased from 166k to 750k, got another proto suit, my beloved cal scout again. Shredded with that thing until 1.9 when E-war was nerfed...i was a cloak scrub and had a hard time then. I was above-average by now.
Warlords dropped, i had been playing 8+hours daily because i had nothing else to do, i was getting 'gud'. I was about 'just kill 10 people and die once' life as a KD ***** due to my low wallet but i didn't get anywhere with that mentality. Stopped running pro to and giving fiu(ks about my KD and ran ADV gear. Now i was really shredding. Continued through warlords 1.1-1.2, got to 65 mil SP and 5 respecs, i knew what i could run with. I had found a logi Raven-747 who knew how over-aggressive i played yet how i would stay alive. Most logi's didn't follow me and left me to die if i ran into the enemy team but raven stayed with me and i knew i would survive if he repped me. Many points were held by a viziam on an a k.0 with a min logi attached. Thats teamwork. I was dropping 30 kill games every game/2. 25 was meh. 40 kill games came every day. I was damn good.
Then came my best game ever with an 0.H guy DK that i used to play with after leaving 0.H. After that i was literally sick of pubs and ran a min scout, no cloak with just knives and 3 kincats to challenge my self. It was hard but enjoyable knowing every kill was hard earned and not on some FoTM assault suit. By now i was just aiming for 100k lifetime kills and didn't give a fu*k about hard mode this. Ran with raven slaying and holding points once more, then something happened and i had to leave dust.

Your coworkers probably represent the average terrible dust player. This world is full of people like them.
My play style is actually very very similar to yours. I have situational awareness and that is why I never sucked. The only time I sucked was the first 3 weeks I played before I actually learned the maps. Strategy and the ability to aim is op.
Then I learned that the minimap just does not only give off the positions of everyone on my team but also the direction they are facing. I can also see the enemy team and where they are facing and probable destinations. I do not just go to a point and fight 1 vs 6 and win godmode. I take a look at absolutely everything and make smart split second decisions on what my plan of attack should be. Where to attack, how to attack, ect. It's not the suit either. When I switched to scouts I had to completely switch my play-style to a more defensive playstyle. I put so much more focus into surviving, exploiting my speed, and using remotes to lure people when I am outnumbered. I basically relearned how to play. I cannot pinpoint any bit of my style towards what I specifically do for one game or with one suit because my style is about adapting and planning my next move and executing it successfully. IF something does not work, I reflect and change it. Instead of blaming others or raging, I accept my mistakes and avoid them in the future.
If you are just running in blind and firing your weapon. Just running towards a letter blindly without actually planning the exact best route to take...your teams position, the enemies, their tactics/gear, then of course you are going to not do as good as someone with situational awareness.

I went from .5 kdr to 1.0 and I started late. I was literally the guy in standard gear vs beta vets who already knew what to skill and with proto before I had it and even then I could not afford it because all the best players at the time were already together and I was in a small corp nobody ever heard of. hen I learned that the minimap just does not only give off the positions of everyone on my team but also the direction they are facing. I can also see the enemy team and where they are facing and probable destinations. I do not just go to a point and fight 1 vs 6 and win godmode. I spent the next year slowly getting better and better and raised it up to 3.0 then I stopped caring and I probably went down to 2.0 as I started running pure standard gear again(bpo) vs the proto bears. I wanted to improve my gameplay, not my score. Ended up getting me pretty far in pc when i played that.

My personal training method is pathetically simpleminded: run an underpowered fit and head strait for the big dogs, psychopaths, and circle jerk officer squads.
Not a good plan, but it does have entertainment value. Only downside is it hurts. A lot. Kinda like scotch bonnet juice on a sliced d!ck.

Play in solo, then play in PC, and try to remake yours fits regularly when your level start to drop. It's what I do each week, I can take 1 day just to calibrate my fits and try others combinaisons, to see if it's better or not.
Currently the fit with I perform the best is the ak.0 assault (yeah wtf), two weeks ago it was in ck.0 assault, and before, it was in vehicles. XD
Each week that change lol I have the chance to have a versatile character, but yeah, I have the same feeling, I'm not as good as a few months ago, so I train myself and search what is better for my current best game play (oriented in speed and quick DPS).
Good luck bro!

its because the current fotms arent as good as some fotms before. You cant solo forge like before because bandwith, you cant swarm launcher like be4 from roof because range. You can't kill as many mlt scrubbers because apex and more squads in more matches. Overall awareness went down hard with all the scanning nerfs, and scouts have cloaks, instakill any suit proto knives with 2.5m range and a almost 180-¦ hit box arc, and bons uber shotguns. And perhaps most of all, jump mods mean virtually every assault is no longer stacking regular armor plates, thus all of them blueshield super hard, especially if you use a RR(if ya dont got officer, calass, or calmando put the garbage rr away).
Combine that with commandos, nade spam, assault hmgs, officer spam, todays horrible map pool, and you get that people who havent adapted to the new fotms that they like, will always do worse. You could also be soloing now compared to squading before, your sensitivity settings couldve been reset or just be high where they shouldve always been low.

You could also be soloing now compared to squading before, your sensitivity settings couldve been reset or just be high where they shouldve always been low. Also, as balancing continues fotm will approach non fotm so close as to eliminate fotm. A lot of fotm chaser have been relying on gear to compensate for their skill level which has stunted their player skill development.
When their fotm gets nerfed and they move to the new, weaker fotm, they get nut punched by the guys that have been in that spec before it was fotm.
Mah kdr went down, I suck now, etc. people who run squads all the time are specced as players with good teamwork, relying and using their squadwork to pull off feats greater than the sum of its parts. When they start running solo, they get slaughtered because they have developed their squadron tactics and may be elite at it, at the expense of their solo tactics.
So a combined set of things happened, his skill level has not gone down, rather, the enemies got better(-kdr), he no longer has such a large gear advantage (-kdr), he may be running solo but is a long time squaddie(--kdr).

Strangely whenever I take long brakes and come back to dust I'm either still competitive or I totally suck. I took 3 big brakes from dust... The first brake I took was about 3 month long and I totally sucked at the start after coming back. The second brake was more than 3 months and as I came back my first game was like 40+/1 and the games after that were similar. I had a monthly KDR of above 10 with more than 1000 kills (or close to that, can't remember)..I was like "Lol how, I didn't even tried?!" since I was still using the same adv /std fittings I always used before.... Now I'm at my 3rd brake and I can't remember when I had my last match (I was online checking my stuff but didn't played a match a month or two ago). Maybe I'll come back and burn through all my proto /officer gear. I never tested my officer stuff yet maybe it's about time to do that :P

I had my dark era beginning one year ago from November. I begun bleeding isk big time, and my kdr dropped below my own humble 4. Last November... Back then became the infamous change in skill cap, in order to cap out you needed about 4x amount of grind.
For two months, I kept on capping almost every week. That grind killed my concentration, attention, care in results and - partially - interest in Dust.
Hence, the resulting six months dark period.
After that, carelessness resulted in relaxation. I even begun using officer weapons I had stocked, something I didn't much use even in closed beta. That's my personal Dust history of last year.

I was never really good at the game. When I first joined back in open beta, I just messed around and it was stupid fun. Back then, militia was what I noticed the most. Rarely saw proto. So, naturally, I skilled into worthless stuff. By the time I started taking the game seriously was when proto stomping became the norm. And I, as a poor blueberry, never stood a chance since I couldn't afford proto and wasn't in a good corp. Now, I can afford proto but I'm a cheapskate so basic, adv, and apex is what I normally run. Until I see some redberry using officer gear, then I whip out the dusty proto suits. (I still don't do good.)

With only 10.5mil SP and starting to play about 3.5 months ago, I've had a pretty wild ride. When I started playing I absolutely wrecked. I remember playing my very first academy game. I had no idea where to go, where to look for enemies or even what the controls were. I jumped on a Blaster Turret and got nearly 20 kills, that was my first 15 minutes of playing Dust, mowing down red dots on a turret.
So I was hooked and started to learn all the various aspects of Dust. I loved the depth and complexity but I was quickly becoming frustrated with fighting players who had better gear. I had the all too common experience of putting my gun into someone's back, draining the clip only to have them jump spin and near instant kill me. I couldn't understand how it was fair to put these 2 player types into the same game.
Then I realized its not fair and its total horseshit, that Dust was severely broken and many veteran players were spoiled little brats who think they've earned the right to crush noobs. Except these vets didn't want to acknowledge the performance disparity between suits, when clearly it was a glaring issue.
That's when I got my first APEX and started to care less about isk. I had a free suit that I could slay with and have fun. Suddenly Dust seemed like a polished turd and not a fresh piling of steaming crap! I could play how I wanted and not lose isk, brilliant! (Shout out to Kaltos Darksbane who gifted me my first APEX, most likely I wouldn't have kept playing if not for him - thanks man!)
Then I bought a merc pack and activated a 30 day booster. I started earning SP like crazy and went from 6mil to 10mil in very short time. I also got a respec and redid my SP intelligently and unlocked proto GalAssault. Now I can wreck other proto suits and melt lesser suits.
My gungame actually declined recently and I think it's due to sensitivity. Sometimes I spray so wildly I literally have to laugh at how terrible I am. I'm gonna try messing with the settings to see if maybe I'm just slowing down or catching up.
I also HATE the PS3 joysticks. Holy crap talk about the worst "action" on thumbsticks ever. I find myself damn near breaking them out of frustration every play session. I need to replace my controlled badly.
I remember going from PS3 Destiny to PS4 Destiny and the controller change alone was a huge improvement in my gungame. Then I returned the PS4 when it's wifi was weaker than the Ps3 and I had to subscribe to PS Plus just to get access to the same features I had on PS3 Destiny. Bullshit device.
TL;DR - Sucked until I got my first APEX. Getting better now that I can gain isk and SP with little risk. With more proto level gear, the game becomes easier and easier. |

CaP XZ wrote:joined during uprising 1.5. I watched moody's videos and saw knives and thought "Damn, thats awesome!" I unlock the basic cloak, put it on a min logi with a sh itload of PG/CPU upgrades in the lows and militia code breakers in the highs to replicate the min scout, with just knives in my weapon slot. Ran with raven slaying and holding points once more, then I met Lightning delta, was fun to squad with. We'd drop 40 bombs. He encouraged me to do better. Then, times changed, something happened and i had to leave dust.

I see so much Alex mod, agmus mass driver, and Alden's its not funny. The Thales has always been there but anyways, you get my drift. Kinda loosing interest maybe, when I don't want charge the whole battle if its a blow out. I have more fun going out side and messing around with scout or blast with the forge.
