Your coworkers probably represent the average terrible dust player. This world is full of people like them.
My play style is actually very very similar to yours. I have situational awareness and that is why I never sucked. The only time I sucked was the first 3 weeks I played before I actually learned the maps. Strategy and the ability to aim is op.
I went from .5 kdr to 1.0 and I started late. I was literally the guy in standard gear vs beta vets who already knew what to skill and with proto before I had it and even then I could not afford it because all the best players at the time were already together and I was in a small corp nobody ever heard of. hen I learned that the minimap just does not only give off the positions of everyone on my team but also the direction they are facing. I can also see the enemy team and where they are facing and probable destinations. I do not just go to a point and fight 1 vs 6 and win godmode. I take a look at absolutely everything and make smart split second decisions on what my plan of attack should be. Where to attack, how to attack, ect. It's not the suit either. When I switched to scouts I had to completely switch my play-style to a more defensive playstyle. I put so much more focus into surviving, exploiting my speed, and using remotes to lure people when I am outnumbered. I basically relearned how to play. I cannot pinpoint any bit of my style towards what I specifically do for one game or with one suit because my style is about adapting and planning my next move and executing it successfully. IF something does not work, I reflect and change it. Instead of blaming others or raging, I accept my mistakes and avoid them in the future.
I spent the next year slowly getting better and better and raised it up to 3.0 then I stopped caring and I probably went down to 2.0 as I started running pure standard gear again(bpo) vs the proto bears. I wanted to improve my gameplay, not my score. Ended up getting me pretty far in pc when i played that.
If you are just running in blind and firing your weapon. Just running towards a letter blindly without actually planning the exact best route to take...your teams position, the enemies, their tactics/gear, then of course you are going to not do as good as someone with situational awareness.
