Quite honestly, if they developed a Dust-like planet-side expansion of EvE on the PC, which coexisted in the EvE universe, such that everything happened real time, and players from both planet-side and space interacted with each other, and could actually go into each other's environments, I'd be there like a shot. If this character was able to be ported there, I'd be happy, but if not, I'd just continue playing my EvE main, just skilling her up as necessary. Porting to PC would probably be the best thing I could hope for right now. |

Porting to PC would probably be the best thing I could hope for right now. Expansion is the main word I saw that caught my attention. What do you mean by that? Like what dust was supposed to be , or do you mean It'd be an expansion on eve as in you'd have to have an eve account to play it. I'm talking about expansion of the EvE Online game. I think the main reason Dust didn't turn out the way it was supposed to at the start was that it was on the PS3, rather than an expansion of EvE on the PC. If it were to be a separate client on the PC, really just another game on the PC, then I think we would still have the same fundamental drawbacks in the game. To be fully compatible and integrated with EvE it would have to be part of EvE, I believe.
However, I think CCP has already shown either their reticence or inability to produce such an integrated expansion on the EvE game. I don't think there's any doubt that they dropped the ball with this one, although it has to be said at the time, many in the EvE community found the proposed interface between the two games, Walking In Stations, to be a pointless waste of effort. I think their shortsightedness has cost both the EvE and Dust communities dearly.
Finally, I have seen many discussions on the reasoning behind using the PS3 as a platform rather than the PC. The PC probably would have been more appropriate and workable as the platform for an integrated expansion, but the PS3 was purportedly chosen for the ability to conduct microtransactions through PSN. At least that's what I heard. If Dust does port to PC, I don't know how they would manage the microtransactions.... |
