Many players lately don't make any effort at all to be team players.
They have no interest in helping to defend objectives or back up their teammates.
Because of your pay-to-win system, they don't want to take any risks to lose their stupid special suits. They just hide in a safe area and pick off easy targets, completely ignoring objectives or their team.
This is the #1 thing that ruins Dust.
Here's a solution: Penalize selfish players in objective modes.
Deduct 10sp points for every 30 seconds a player is not within 50 meters of an objective, or doesn't make a kill within 30 seconds while being more than 50 meters away from an objective.

This would also penalise slower suits (Sentinels and Commandos) moving into position as well as stealthy Scouts flanking enemy positions and laying Uplinks.

No it wouldn't. I only play commando. Anyone who's ever played with me knows I'm always on the front lines.
But to be fair, give heavies a 60 second timer then. |

Because we've been using the stick to motivate people to play for years, and hasn't it been working splendidly?
And we definitely want to penalize new players who don't have the ability or SP to compete with veterans who are upwards of 100 million SP, right? We definitely need to take SP from the fresh blood, because we really don't need them to stay, right? We totally want them to get frustrated with the game punishing them for not knowing what they're doing. I mean if they get redlined and can't get a kill because of how little they know the game, we should definitely take away the one resource they need to get competitive.
And we especially want to punish anyone who uses the laser rifle, or sniper, or rail rifle, any other weapon that favors staying at range over charging in, surely. What kind of game let's people enjoy different playstyles?
Over thinking, over analyzing separates the body from the mind.

That's why the lazy devs need to add a practice mode and tutorial already. So new players aren't just thrown in the midst of a slaughter.
But instead, they give them starter fits- to get their hopes up. They'll dominate with their awesome new suits until they run out, and all they're left with is ****** militia suits. Then they get slaughtered.
And the devs are hoping that that's when they will want to spend more AUR to get some decent suits again, hoping that the Starter Fits got them hooked...
But they'll continue to get slaughtered. Because there's no training or practice mode. So what they'll do is hide out in the hills with their new dumb special suits because they don't want to risk them.
Perhaps changing the game model from Pay-to-Win to Pay-to-enjoy-more-game-modes-and-maps might fix this.
If you just want to be a coward and hide, and do nothing to support your teammates and defend the objective, then choose a game mode that doesn't require teamwork or defending objectives. Like Ambush. Don't penalize your teammates who keep trying to defend the objective with absolutely no backup from selfish players who only care about K/D. |

So what about us Sentinels who like to set up flanking positions or overwatch for vehicles? We'd get punishes for fighting tactically rather than being on the point. Same with any sniper or tank, not just redline ones.
Speaking of redline, how does this idea affect a team that's been pinned into their redline?

Those are good and fair questions. Maybe limit it to 50% of the team?
I've played SEVERAL matches now where out of a team of 12 or 16, I've only seen 4 near the objective at once.
Maybe a warning message pops up on the HUD of a player who's just walked more than 50meters from Alpha
"WARNING, INSUFFICIENT CLONES DEFENDING OBJECTIVE"
Then a 30 or 60 second countdown timer starts, depending on heavy or not, until 10 sp is deducted.
-10 sp every half a minute to a minute seems reasonable. More than half the team shouldn't abandon the objective for that long.
And if you feel that much of a team needs to be that far from Alpha, then you're just K/D farming. |

To suggest that Dust's #1 problem is certain players not contributing is a vast oversimplification, with a correspondingly oversimplified suggested solution.
You want people to contribute? REWARD the people that do so, especially in situations in which the team is losing, the team is outnumbered, the player is facing a significant SP and/or suit meta gap, and lastly when players come in after the battle has started.
All those factors add to a situation where the risks and costs of trying to do anything vastly outweigh any rewards for taking the risk. Until the benefits are enough to justify the risk, you will have people reducing their risk as much as possible. Adding extra cost and risk to the situation just makes people want to contribute less, or worse, not play at all.

Any double entendre is unintended I assure you.

You're right. I concede your point.
Perhaps increase the Objective Defense Bonus? From plus 10 to plus 25? |

Here's a solution: Penalize selfish RANKED players in objective modes.
Deduct 10sp points for every 30 seconds a player is not within 50 meters of an objective, or doesn't make a kill within 30 seconds while being more than 50 meters away from an objective.
This should only apply to anyone with a ranking higher than RECRUIT, to give newbies a chance to learn the game.
Fair? No one cares enough to try in a game that is not balanced.
