My reasoning for losing interest in Dust isn't the game itself or the dev's. Sure there are things that they could fix that would make the game better but they aren't the main reason in my opinion.
The real reason is the players.
The players "worth their salt" simply follow the FOTM or let blues take bullets for them while they K/D farm. (Players currently playing. Not old n' true vets).
What an odd post. Most of the things you listed are some of the things i dislike about Dust, albeit for different reasons:
"The players camp up high to avoid an actual fight on the point" --> What irks me is players who dont understand why this is happening, they just want it to stop. Its childish. People camp up high usually because the other team has destroyed every single uplink, and has proto squads circling around the bottom. Maybe if you offered a fair fight instead of proto squads vs Stater fit solos, this wouldnt be a problem.
Its like, you think camping up high is not fair, but find it perfectly fair to field proto vs milita.
"The "newer players" want help but refuse to listen" ---> The only advice is "squad up squad up squad up". Thats the only help vets offer. "Well squad up with me and listen to us chat like chicks for hours".
"The Blues in pub matches should almost all be in a sandbox mode fighting AI because they need it" ----> Public contracts is supposed to be the entry level/ casual mode, and yet all the "vets" go there to go full tryhard on the noobs. Maybe if you gave them a chance to actually learn the game, this wouldnt be a problem?
"The players prefer to camp in the red line with a Rail Rifle rather than pushing out" -----> Yeah you destroy all their links, shoot down any vehicles being called in, make a frontline of proto assaults and logis at the exit, and then complain people stay in the red line. Again, another "problem" where you are blaming the victim instead of the person causing it.
"The players quit matches after seeing the enemy team" ---> This one is valid
"The players go to the forums and wine about anything that can find, from Jump mods to re's and then back to alpha damage weapons." ------> coming from the guy who just whined about every coping mechanism new players use to survive in game.
^ The way i see it, its pretty simple. No one wants to be part of the solution, they just want to cause problems and hope that someone else fixes it for them.
If the "vets" changed their habits, and played casual in Pub and serious in FW, most of these problems would solve themselves. |

The main issue with pubs in general is that unfortunately, Dom is by far the most popular game mode (don't ask me why, I don't get it personally), and thus it can be really hard to get into any other game mode, particularly outside of peak hours. :(
It fits the main desire of the regulars. People that play games alot, "grinding", if you will, get into the habit of prioritizing earnings and maximizing the time it takes to accumulate them.
Before the changes to vehicles and squads, Ambush was their preferred mode because its a quick game with good pay, especially if the other team has no chance.
Now, if they are going to play an objective mode, Dom is the obvious choice. With Skirm, people have to guard different points, attacks come from all over, the game can be drawn out by a few good lone wolfs who keep the flanking going.
With Dom, its either guard or attack one point. Almost everyone in that game will go to the point. Maps arent very big so travel time is minimal. Depending on the socket, vehicle impact can be minimal or negated, as having air support or good AV can keep the enemy vehicles far from the only fight.
If you want to increase interest in other modes, up the pay. People follow the money.
*DISCLAIMER: When i say people that "play games alot, grinding", its not meant in a negative context. I have grinded many games. |
