Is there anything that can be done about this?
GǪ. Let me get this out the way first, that Summa, your last post here had me in stitches--you cracked me up!! What a hilariously frank and honest response. Good for you!
Smurf, there is something you can do to get your ISK back, AND there is something that can be done about how easy it is for uninformed+unknowing players to be Scammed. GǪBoth solutions are already in the game, and they don't need to be created or added by CCP (the Devs already inserted both solutions in the game, at least two years agoGǪ)
Solutions 1 & 2 are based on the same thing: Player Socializing.
Listen to this 3-minute guide from CCP Mimic (one girl to another, I luuv Mimic--her manner is SO sweet and polite). Near the end of the vid she tells you straight-upGǪ your MUST participate in forums/chat channels---CCP really doesn't want to teach you these games with a menu tutorial. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7TSfydbl0Jc
There is also this video, where Mimic explains some of the features EVE chat menus have, that I suspect will be the course Dust will take as long as our game keeps alive and developing. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4JguZrbXV-o Don't trade with folks, until you've followed the vid's advice and interacted with a LOT of players and learned what this game is about. That's your Solution #2.
Solution #1, is me. You'll hear Mimic describe me in the end of that second video.
If you respond to this post, or send me a mail while in your game, I will do something about your 33mil ISK loss.
But of course Smurf, you have to make the first step and reach out to me. From this point forward, remember this is New Eden. If you don't respond to my post, then by New Eden custom, we may have to start suspecting that YOU might be scamming US.

Twelve Guage wrote:This kind of behavior would be fine if there was some kind of warning for new players to read about in game. They should not have to come to the forums to find out scamming is an acceptable part of trading. The inadequate trading system that is in place right now does nothing but turn new players away from this game. New player are not door mats. They should not be walked all over because something as simply as communicating risk in a games trading system is not there. I have no clue why this community is so accepting of bullshit replies like yours but it needs to stop. New players should not be exploited like this.
Part of your text here, should become the Mantra for a "corp" or "Brotherhood" of players who establish themselves in our game. I like almost ever sentence you wrote here, Twelve guage---I think the words shoud be preserved on the plaque of the corp (kudos for writing them, btw). But it's got to be US players that build that thing, and make it possible. This IS the game design for Dust (as it was the design for EVE). When the Devs said this was going to be "sandbox", we all thought they meant just roaming around the PLANETS doing what we want (something many PS3 players said would never be possible to do in Dust)GǪ But what the Devs meant by "sandbox" was also that we could roam around the other PLAYERS doing what we wantGǪ. Eve learned that long ago, and now trading in Dust is teaching to us just how "sandbox" we suddenly are too.
If a designer integrates cursing and swearing into his game about drug lords fighting cops, it's really kind of hard to tell the designer that it's not right for his game to have violence and foul language in it. That's the environment he intended, and we need not play. If someone tells me, Celesta here's a game, it's hard, it's full of dangers, we're not going to tell you what all the dangers are, and you have to explore and learn it along the wayGǪ I'll want to try that game. It's what I personally like games for.
But I am also waiting for the other side of "sandbox" to be utilized, were we players step forward to combat the dangers (in this case, Scamming) and take control of "Communication", the way EVE players have done so well in the ten years of their game, and the way you rally a fighting spirit so well in the words you wrote, Twelve.
CCP regularly makes it clear, they are boldly NOT going to steer or direct player interaction in their New Eden game. They will only say player-interaction is a core mechanic of these games, and control of it is all up to US.

I'll and to your last line, Johnny:
GǪnothing the Devs WANT to do about it! It's what they intended to happen in the game. The stealing and trickery mechanic is DESIGNED into the game, and is part of the game Lore. New Eden is a power-play universe a la "Grand Theft Auto" and "The Getaway".

so here is my reach out to you
Hurray! I hoped you would respond. I was afraid Twelve Gauge's warning-advice (hey, it's good advice) would scare you off, and prevent you from "taking the Risk".
RISKGǪ is that big word in Eve gaming. It's what CCP built Eve-Online around, and Dust 514 has it too. You're supposed to weigh the Risks of doing something, (knowing it might be a bad decision), and carefully or boldly reach out after you know what the risks are.
You've done your part, Smurf. You took the risk and reached out. Now I'll do my part, and you'll get a confirmation mail with my name on it, Wednesday night 7.30 pm US Pacific Time. Keep an eye out for me!
As for that Scammer? Yes, I agree he is bragging. But he IS playing a legitimate Role in Dust 514 (no matter how much players like me may happily oppose him). It will take some time to "take care of" Scammer-players----this game is still in early evolution. And CCP doesn't want to take the lead on designing deterrents for Scammers,.. they're counting on us players to do that as part of the New Eden civilization.
