Again once the damage is done u will always have overheating problems this cant be fixed. I had an old pc i got from a yardsell paid 5 bucks for it. It loads up runs 5 mins or less and shuts down due to overheating. I went out got a $200 liquid cooling system for it. it ran for 7 mins and shuts down due to overheating. The damage was done. but wasnt a waste just the cpu was fried 50 bucks new cpu total 255 bucks invested resold it for 400 to a pawn shop. Sadly i dont think a ps3 cpu can be replaced so easy. If this is really a heat issue SONY is going to be paying for a new one for me. It's only a few months old. Its not sonys problem if u didnt make sure it had good air flow from day 1 u got it.
It's called a warranty. Faulty hardware is not my financial burden. |

Overheating may be part of the issue but CCP has confirmed there are problems with the game itself that cause the freezing. I'd hold off till the next build before I'd write off your problems on overheating alone.
Also Sony wont replace your PS3 if you put it in a poorly ventilated area. If you read the instruction manual to your PS3 is says rather clearly the system needs an open, well ventilated area. Failing to do so can cause damage to your PS3, which is damage caused by the user and not faulty hardware.
But like I said, chances are overheating may be part of the issue but its not all of it, so don't freak out just yet, especially if the only game it happens on is Dust. Still I do suggest you try to keep your PS3 out in the open with potentially a fan blowing on it to help deal with heat, because PS3s do tend to overheat if there is poor air circulation. |

1) It's faulty if the system doesn't stop itself from damage. 2) It *is* in a well ventilated area. Requiring a dedicated freezer unit is not part of the manual.
I believe all this talk of heat issues is garbage, but if it did cause damage, do know you should go to SONY for your warranty. |

LOL noc u think heat build up cant cause damage wow man. My 8 yr daughter knows it can.
As for its faulty if it doesnt not really. Its ur fault if the system gets to the point heat has damaged it. Also even tho urs is in a well ventilated area as u say. Is there air flow? How are the sides of the ps3 clean or a lil dusty or they covered and cant see in? Also is the room its in nice and cool or is it something like 90+ in side with a fan just blowing the hot air around?
Hot air being pulled into a hot system does no good at all. Cool air will pick up the heat and move it along. FYI i am in college classes for this very thing with pc's and be it a pc or a console they still work the same way when it comes to heat. Not that it really matters much but in case ur thinking just cause ur takeing the classes doesnt mean u know what ur talking about, but with a gpa of 3.8 in yr 2 i think that says enough.
As for the going to sony. They can tell what caused the damage. A buddy of mine didnt beleave me and sent in his stuffed in a just big enough hole for his ps3, after 4 months of being in this box it shut off on him 1 day. He called in got the stuff sent it to sony. They sent it back with a note. Next time be sure to allow for good air circulation. The damage is not from faulty hardware but poor air flow.
He still tried the ps3. thinking they might have still replaced it but they didnt. He had to go buy a new 1. |

... I'm just going to leave it at I certainly don't need your advice to know what good air circulation is (aerospace engineer). Also discouraging people from sending in for warranty repair is protecting the wrong people. Even if the failure rate is 1%, that means tens of thousands will fail from no fault of the user. Some units are always shipped despite not meeting standards. They also have sensors to prevent thermal damage, which would shut the console down, not hard freeze the game. |

when doing the PS3 safe mode i do not only recommend the database rebuild but as well the file system restore. options number 3 & 4.
i do not think heat is an issue here, Dust does not make the PS3 turn in to an oven. |

Kyle Drysden wrote:Worth a try. I did this when I played the Skyrim beta, but to no success. Still ran into framerate issues, lag, crashes. It's always worth a shot since it won't actually harm your system.
And by Skyrim Beta, I mean the official launched title released on 11/11/11.... Did they ever fix that crap?!
Got skyrim at midnight on 11/11. Ps3 died from high load volumes On chipset 2 weeks later. Bought skyrim in 360. Much nicer. And rendered better. This is what scares me with dust. The chipse's data transfer has to be high. |

I'm intrigued as to why some people supposedly aren't getting any freezes, I would like to know for how many people freezing is not an issue.
If my PS3 is indeed heat damaged, as some people would have me believe, then why does it not freeze and crash in other games? GTA IV for example is quite an intensive game, if I put my hand near the vents on the back the air coming out is pretty darn warm, warmer than when playing Dust. |

on a plus note, i have disabled voice chat in game, stopped using my 7.1 Official Sony headset and disabled notifications from being displayed from the PS3 XMB and have found this stops me from freezing every 2-3 games, i can now play about 10 or so.
also, not sure why some freeze and others dont. i do, my ps3 stays on most of the time, i like to sit idle in the MQ for long periods of time as well (i have kids and smoke and hate playing with the same people over and over so i'll just wait). |

I found this lovely tutorial on how to do a database reconstruction on my PS3, which supposedly would help it run better. The only downside to the database reconstruction is that it will erase all of your saved messages as well as any playlists you have on your ps3, but from what I can tell that's the only downside. PS3 is running better than ever and I've had no problems because of the reconstruction. Here is a link if you guys want to try it out to see if it helps your freezing issues like it did for me. http://www.ps3blog.net/2011/01/28/tips-and-tricks-ps3-rebuild-database-faq-recovery-menu/
Thanks for passing on this. I did the database reconstruction an hour ago, it took a few minutes, and the last hour has been really smooth gaming both in Dust and in BF3. I'd suggest that this get stickied |
